When Our Lady of Lourdes Parish and School are CLOSED due to weather, there will be NO communion service, weekday mass, meetings, activities, or athletic events. School closure decisions are made by the superintendent s office, and will be announced on local radio/tv stations.

4 Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church Gospel Reflection Our Blessed Mother takes center stage on this fourth Sunday of Advent, and fittingly so, as we draw near to the celebration of her Son s birth. After our Lord Himself, Mary is our model and guide to a stewardship way of life. Today s Gospel describes Mary s actions immediately after her yes to the angel Gabriel s message. Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of Judah and greeted Elizabeth. Mary immediately begins to think of others before herself, modeling two of the pillars of stewardship, Hospitality and Service. What warmth and humility the Mother of our Savior shows, traveling to Elizabeth to spend time with her, rejoicing with Elizabeth over her own incredible pregnancy, and assisting her in a time of need. And what joy this hospitality and service brings to Elizabeth. Our Blessed Mother s example of a stewardship way of life is one that we can follow in our own lives today. With all the gifts God gives us our time, our talents, our material possessions we can offer ourselves to God by using these gifts to serve and glorify Him. In so doing, we will effectively spread the Good News of the Gospel to the world around us today. We will be stewards after our Mother s own heart. Summarization from Catholic Stewardship Consultants, Inc Forget Me Not Flower Ministry Thanks to all of our wonderful Flower Ministers who picked up poinsettias last weekend and delivered them to our homebound parishioners! Look for this ministry again in the spring! Youth Service Students in 4 th grade and up are invited to join with Youth Ministry in service at the Catholic Charities Refugee Resource Warehouse (2226 W. Market St.) on Thursday, January 3. We will be sorting donated items such as clothes, household goods, toys, baby items and much more. We will leave Lourdes at 8:30 AM and finish the day with lunch at The Table restaurant in Portland. To remind us of the importance of family in our lives, prayer cards will be distributed and we will offer a blessing after each mass. Stewardship Reflection First he says, Sacrifices and offerings, holocausts and sin offerings, you neither desired nor delighted in..he takes away the first (covenant) to establish the second. ~Hebrews 10:8-9 The first covenant emphasized giving as a duty or obligation under the law. The new covenant emphasizes thanksgiving, gratitude, and cheerfulness the qualities of a Christian steward. Based on reflections prepared by Rev. This area is for drop offs and emergency vehicles; note that the curbs have been painted yellow. There are several handicap-designated parking spots nearby. Also please be aware that we have a ramp on the north side of the church. Please DO NOT BLOCK this ramp when parking on that side. We recently had a medical emergency during Sunday mass and EMS had difficulty navigating around a car blocking the ramp. We appreciate your cooperation! Please do not leave anything of any value visible in your car when parking on our campus. Always be aware of your surroundings, and always lock your doors! Knights of Columbus The Knights of Columbus will collect signatures for the January 20 pro-life signature ad that will appear in the Courier-Journal, in memory of some 60 million babies aborted since January 22, Right to Life of Louisville sponsors the ad, and suggests a donation is $5 per name or line. Catholic Sports Hall of Fame Congratulations to Lourdes Alumna Carmen Mims Noel ( 01) on her induction into the Catholic Sports Hall of Fame. Carmen is a ten-time state champion in cross country and track and field, and she is one of the most decorated distance runners in state history. Congratulations Carmen! Red Cross Blood Drive Give the gift of life! The Red Cross has two opportunities on Christmas Eve to make blood donations: 10:00 AM 2:00 PM at the Walmart Neighborhood Grocery on Thierman Lane; or 7:00 AM 3:00 PM at the East End Donation Center at 291 N. Hubbards Lane. Family Ministries Marriage moments It s almost here. Perhaps your tradition is to decorate the tree or open presents on Christmas Eve. Keep the focus on your love for each other, not on whether everything will go right. Sometimes the best Christmas stories are about fiascos.
