RCIA The six weeks of Lent are almost a retreat for those in RCIA. We look at the scriptures and reflect on the ways that we might be blind, might need the living water of baptism, and what in us is dead that needs to be brought back to life, or even buried, with God's help. Our Lady of Lourdes offers RCIA instruction year-round, and we welcome all inquirers! 3 Men s Conference Allowing Jesus to Find Me Men of all ages are invited to the annual Catholic Men s Conference on Saturday, April 6 at St. Michael Church, 8:15 AM 1:00 PM. Walk-in: Adults $40/Students $25. Stewardship Intentions When we model good stewardship practices, our children learn to live the life of a steward. Returning Intention Cards is part of our commitment to stewardship as a way of life. Have you returned your 2019 Intention Card? If so, thank you! If not, please do so now! The return of your Intention Card renews your membership in our parish. You may fill out the online Intention Card and submit it; or print the form, fill it out, and drop it in the mail, collection basket, or at the Parish Office. We are here to help! Faith Direct Are you uncomfortable not placing an envelope or check in the collection basket? Perhaps your children look forward to dropping the envelope in the basket. Faith Direct provides personalized offertory cards to be used in the weekend collection as a visible sign of your electronic donations, and a good way to model your family commitment to stewardship. Contact the Cindy Schultz with questions, cindys@ourlourdes.org. What is the REAL focus of Lent? Most of us have an easy time of getting into Advent. All we need is an Advent wreath and some candles we even put up the crib is stages so that the baby goes in last. It is all kind of fun and easy to celebrate, especially when there are children involved. So, how do we celebrate Lent? It might be hard linking the term celebrate with Lent. Yet, that is what we are called to do. Lent is a call to deeper prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. One of the reasons these three are the focus of Lent is because the primary purpose of Lent is to prepare our catechumens to receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil. We ALL renew our baptismal promises at Easter services so we need to prepare as well. These symbols can help us focus on what is really happening in Lent. A Crucifix a powerful reminder of God s love. A bowl of water an on-going reminder of our journey to the font of baptism for the renewal of commitment and life in Christ. Try this prayer: Lord, may this water remind us of our baptism and be a blessing for our home, where our dying and rising in you is lived each day. Bless us, as we sign ourselves with it each day. Sand our journey through life includes some desert experiences just as Jesus spent time in quiet. A Candle- light in the darkness, a reminder that Christ is our light. A symbol to consider when we are tempted and feel lost in the dark. At each baptism we hear, Receive the light of Christ. Christ triumphs over darkness and we are never alone. A Bible an opportunity for an encounter with God s word, leading us to a new space, inspiring us, encouraging us and challenging us. Almsgiving (Rice Bowl?) a concrete way to help us focus on those who have less than we have. Stewardship Join with others in being imitators of me, brothers and sisters, and observe those who thus conduct themselves according to the model you have in us. ~Philippians 3:17 Time & Talent Thanks to Boosters, PTO, and all who helped and worked at the Fish Fry last week. Tabernacle Many of you have noticed the gold tabernacle we normally use has been replaced. The gold one was damaged recently, and has been sent for repair. We are using our older tabernacle, which we store in the Sacristy to use as a backup.

5 Doll Dresses First Communion is coming up soon and the Lourdes Doll Ladies are busy making First Communion doll dresses for American Girl Dolls. The dresses are made in many different styles and include a veil, shoes, tights, necklace and rosary. To order one for your doll please contact Colleen Walker or cwalker2112@gmail.com. The dresses are $35 each and all the proceeds go to Community Catholic Center to help provide children with a Catholic education. Kroger Rewards We received $2,458 in Kroger Community Rewards for the period December February. That s a nice sum, but it could be even higher if we had more participating households! None of us can think we are exempt from concern for the poor. ~Pope Francis Mulch Time! Boy Scout Troop 325 Our Boy Scouts are taking orders now for black or brown hardwood, or cypress blend mulch. Delivery is scheduled for April in the zip code area (contact the troop for other areas). Scouts do not spread the mulch but will place the bags around your yard as directed. Family Ministries Marriage Moments It s Lent, a time to take stock of our lives both spiritually and physically. Many people give up bad habits or even harmless pleasures to join with Jesus suffering on the cross. What you choose to do (or not do) is unique to you, but consider one Lenten action that you both do. You can be a support to each other. Parenting Pointers The Spring Equinox will be Wednesday, March 20, when we have nearly equal light and dark. Why should you care? It determines the date of Easter. Easter is always the first Sunday after the first full moon following the Spring Equinox. That s why it changes every year. Explain this to your child; you ll probably sound pretty smart.
