What does this mean? The kingdom of God certainly comes by itself without our prayer, but we pray in this petition that it may come to us also. How does God s kingdom come? God s kingdom comes when our heavenly Father gives us His Holy Spirit, so that by His grace we believe His holy Word and lead godly lives here in time and there in eternity. Contributions We need an average income per week of $8, to fund the work of the school and the church. We have been averaging far below that amount, and are now behind. At the end of the 3 rd quarter (2018), we were at $-27, Please prayerfully consider your response to God s blessings as you support our work together in the church. Reminder: LWML meeting is this Tuesday, January 15, at 7 p.m. Financial Peace University is coming to Concordia! This is a 9-week class that teaches Dave Ramsey's seven baby steps. Learn how to make a budget, save for emergencies, and make a plan for the future. The classes will be held at Concordia on Sunday evenings. An introductory meeting will be held on Sunday, January 27, at 5 p.m. at Concordia for those interested. If you have any questions, please call or text Shannon Martin, (573) , or Heather Kassel, (573) Pies Requested Concordia s Saxony students will be hosting the concession stand at the dartball tournament. The tournament will be held on Tuesdays, January 29, February 5, 12, and 19, in the school gym. Pies are being requested. If you can donate a pie(s), please sign up on the list in the church narthex. Proceeds from the concession stand will go to Concordia s Saxony Scholarship Fund. Thank you for helping to make the Family Crisis Center Donation Drive so successful! This is just a partial list of what was donated quilts-10, PJs-26 sets, flip flops/house shoes-8 pair, bath robes-3, hair products-26 bottles, billfolds, soap, nail care, brushes, socks, gift cards, and many different craft supplies. LWML says thank you for assisting with this service project. Lutheran Youth Fellowship (LYF) Notes Concordia LYF will host a Take-and-Bake Casserole Sale today, January 13, after worship. Small casseroles will be available for $15 each (2-4 servings) and large casseroles will be available for $20 each (6-8 servings). Baked Goods Table The LYF will have baked goods available at the table each Sunday. (If you wish to donate something, please drop off your donation on Sunday morning before church. Thanks!) The LYF is collecting aluminum cans. If you have any cans you would like to donate, please place them in garbage bags (tied/closed) in the storage shed on the picnic grounds. Thank you for your help with this fundraiser. Are you having an auction, or do you have a family member or friend having an auction? Concordia s youth are looking to do concession stands for auctions in the 6

7 area. Please contact Gina Wunderlich at if you would like the youth to do a concession stand. Saxony Lutheran High School Notes For news from Saxony Lutheran High School, and information on upcoming events, please see the Saxony newsletter. Copies of the first page are available on the south buffet. A complete copy of the most recent issue can be viewed by visiting Saxony s website, saxonylutheranhigh.org, and selecting Newsletter located under the News & Events link at the top of the page. A complete copy is also posted on the bulletin board in the church narthex. Saxony Lutheran FFA will host a Breakfast this Saturday, January 19, from 7-10:30 a.m. at Saxony. Pancakes and smoked pork links will be served for a free-will donation. Proceeds will support Saxony s FFA Chapter and help them get an ag shop. An Open House will be held at Saxony Lutheran High School on Sunday, January 27, from 1-3 p.m. Come experience what Saxony Lutheran High School can offer your family! Take a tour, meet teachers and staff, talk with current students, and see how the Lord has blessed Saxony and how Saxony wants to share those blessings with you. Please call for more information. The Annual Chili Supper will be Friday, February 1, from 4:30-7 p.m. at Saxony Lutheran High School. The menu will include chili, hot dogs, peanut butter sandwiches, dessert, and drink. The cost of the meal will be $6 for adults and $3 for children ages Come for food and fellowship, and stay for the homecoming boys basketball game. Neighboring Church & Community Notes The Messiah Choir will perform choruses and solos from all three parts of The Messiah today, January 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Perryville, and next Sunday, January 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cape Girardeau, both at 3 p.m. Both concerts will begin with pre-concert music at 2:45 p.m. The Jubilate Singers will perform at Immanuel, and a variety of special music performances will take place at Trinity. The Trinity Brass will accompany hymns. Messiah soloists will be Katie Benkendorf, Trudy Lee, Don Presson, and Eric Scott. At both concerts, Megan Benkendorf will share briefly about her experience at Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival, and perform a musical selection. The director of the Messiah Choir is Eric Scott. A free-will offering will be taken for a scholarship fund to promote musicianship among youth. Refreshments will be served following both concerts. A Pancake and Sausage Breakfast, hosted by Trinity LYF, will be held next Sunday, January 20, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in the Trinity Lutheran School Gym. A free-will donation will be taken for the meal. Proceeds will be used by Trinity s LYF to attend the National Youth Gathering in July. Calling All Instrumentalists Trinity Lutheran Church, Cape Girardeau, invites you to be a part of the instrumental special music on Saturday, January 26, and Saturday, February 9, at the 6 p.m. services. Three Branson Style Fundraiser Shows, one each afternoon, will be held on Sunday, January 27, February 17, and March 10, in the Immanuel Lutheran School Gym, Perryville. Doors will open at 1 p.m., and each show will be from 2-3:30 p.m. On Sunday, January 27, Johnathan Len will perform Jukebox Memories a musical journey through yesteryear. The show on Sunday, February 17, will be Bill Forness, a Tribute to Johnny Cash. On Sunday, March 10, The Backstreet Cruisers will treat 7

8 you to the music that was played on your AM car radio back-in-the-day. The cost is $25 per ticket (each show). Concessions will be available. An American Red Cross Blood Drive, hosted by the EPC Lions, will be Monday, January 28, from 2-7 p.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Hall, Altenburg. The Annual Big Breakfast will be Sunday, February 3, from 7-11:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Crosstown. The menu will include scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, and fried potatoes, along with milk, juice, and coffee. A free-will donation will be taken for the meal. A Night to Shine prom experience for individuals with special needs, age 14+, will be held Friday, February 8, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jackson. Guests will get the royal treatment, walk the red carpet, dance the night away, and each be crowned a King or Queen! Volunteers are needed to help with this event. A buddy is needed for each guest to accompany and assist their assigned guest throughout the evening. Volunteers are also needed for set-up/decorating, check-in, transportation/parking lot, paparazzi team, hair/make-up/shoe-shine, flower team, karaoke, and more. Visit to learn more and to register as a guest or buddy or volunteer. Since the Night to Shine is free for guests, and, in addition to volunteers, donations and sponsorships will help make the event happen. For more information about sponsorship, or to make a donation online, visit Save the Date A Wine Excursion, hosted by Trinity LYF, will be held on Saturday, May 4. The excursion will include three wineries on the Shawnee Wine Trail. Tickets will be $50 each and include transportation and snacks. Proceeds will be used by Trinity LYF members to attend the National Youth Gathering in July.
