Epistle 1 Corinthians 8: Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that all of us possess knowledge. This knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2 If anyone imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, he is known by God. 4 Therefore, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that an idol has no real existence, and that there is no God but one. 5 For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth as indeed there are many gods and many lords 6 yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist. 7 However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through former association with idols, eat food as really offered to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled. 8 Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do. 9 But take care that this right of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak. 10 For if anyone sees you who have knowledge eating in an idol s temple, will he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols? 11 And so by your knowledge this weak person is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died. 12 Thus, sinning against your brothers and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ. 13 Therefore, if food makes my brother stumble, I will never eat meat, lest I make my brother stumble. Romans 10:17 (ESV) Catechism The Lord s Prayer The Fifth Petition and Meaning And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. What does this mean? We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would not look at our sins, or deny our prayer because of them. We are neither worthy of the things for which we pray, nor have we deserved them, but we ask that He would give them all to us by grace, for we daily sin much and surely deserve nothing but punishment. To God be the glory! United in Christ Lutheran School (UCLS) Notes UCLS is seeking to fill two positions for the school year 1. Algebra teacher for several 8th grade students. To qualify for this position, a candidate should possess a teaching degree with an emphasis on secondary math. The position is for 6 hours a week. 2. Bus Driver for daily routes as well as occasional field trips. To qualify for this position a candidate needs a CDL license with a passenger endorsement. The position is for 3 hours per day and occasional field trips. Interested candidates should contact Miss Honoree at the school office ( ) or send resumes to United in Christ Lutheran School, Highway C, Frohna, MO The EPC Mouse Races will be Saturday, February 17, at Brazeau Hall. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the races will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door, and include food, drinks, and entertainment for the whole night. Advance tickets may be purchased at West End, Gas-A-Mat, or the UCLS Office. All proceeds will benefit the UCLS 7 th & 8 th Grade Trip to Washington, D.C. Are you looking for a gift for someone? Saxony Lutheran High School Notes Congratulations to Concordia s Saxony students who made the Honor Roll: Honor Roll with High Distinction (GPA of 4.0) Freshman: Megan Benkendorf, Juniors: Katie Benkendorf and Olivia Voelker, and Senior: Tabitha Petzoldt; Honor Roll with Distinction (GPA of ) Junior: Whitney Unterreiner and Senior: Olivia Petzoldt; and Honor Roll (GPA of ) Junior: Zachary Word. Future Crusader Nights will be this Thursday, February 8 (girls basketball), and this Friday, February 9 (boys basketball). All students are invited to come to the game and cheer on the Crusaders. Saxony Drama will present its winter production, including The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, and also a short, but hilarious, vignette-style comedy, entitled You re Driving Me Crazy. Performances will be at Saxony s Moeller Commons this Saturday, February 10, at 7 p.m. and next Sunday, February 11, at 4 p.m. (following the Saxony Open House). 8 Saxony s 2018 Take Me Out to the Ballgame! Dinner Auction will be Saturday, February 24, at the Bavarian Halle in Jackson. The doors will open at 4 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 each, and are available at the school office. The Annual Chili and Chicken Noodle Soup Dinner is today, February 4, from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Immanuel Fellowship Hall, Altenburg. The menu will include chili, chicken noodle soup, peanut butter sandwiches, fresh vegetables, and homemade pies and desserts. A free-will donation will be taken for the meal.
