Epistle Reading Ephesians 3: For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles 2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God s grace that was given to me for you, 3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. 4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, 5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. 6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. 7 Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God s grace, which was given me by the working of his power. 8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things, 10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. What does this mean? God s name is certainly holy in itself, but we pray in this petition that it may be kept holy among us also. How is God s name kept holy? God s name is kept holy when the Word of God is taught in its truth and purity, and we, as the children of God, also lead holy lives according to it. Help us to do this, dear Father in heaven! But anyone who teaches or lives contrary to God s Word profanes the name of God among us. Protect us from this, heavenly Father! 4

Prayer Chain: Prayer is a powerful gift. A prayer chain, made up of members of our congregation, is always available. If neither of those two answer, a complete list is posted on the bulletin board in the church narthex. Any LWML member will know how to activate the chain. LWML Mites: Our LWML collects mites to support mission projects throughout the world. Mites are money in any denomination that is used to fund worthy mission projects that are selected by the National and Missouri District LWML. Our local LWML invites everyone to help support these projects. If you wish to help, please put your mites in the specially-marked box in the LWML closet in the multi-purpose room. Elders/Ushers: A 2019 Elder/Usher Schedule is available today on the north buffet. 5

The Call Committee is requesting a special Voters Meeting regarding our call next Sunday, January 13, after worship. Contributions We need an average income per week of $8, to fund the work of the school and the church. We have been averaging far below that amount, and are now behind. At the end of the 3 rd quarter (2018), we were at $-27, Please prayerfully consider your response to God s blessings as you support our work together in the church. Lutheran Youth Fellowship (LYF) Notes Concordia LYF will host a Take-and-Bake Casserole Sale next Sunday, January 13, after worship. Small casseroles will be available for $15 each (2-4 servings) and large casseroles will be available for $20 each (6-8 servings). Baked Goods Table The LYF will have baked goods available at the table each Sunday. (If you wish to donate something, please drop off your donation on Sunday morning before church. Thanks!) The LYF is collecting aluminum cans. If you have any cans you would like to donate, please place them in garbage bags (tied/closed) in the storage shed on the picnic grounds. Thank you for your help with this fundraiser. Are you having an auction, or do you have a family member or friend having an auction? Concordia s youth are looking to do concession stands for auctions in the area. Please contact Gina Wunderlich at if you would like the youth to do a concession stand. Saxony Lutheran High School Notes Saxony Lutheran FFA will host a Breakfast on Saturday, January 19, from 7-10:30 a.m. at Saxony. Pancakes and smoked pork links will be served for a free-will donation. Proceeds will support Saxony s FFA Chapter and help them get an ag shop. An Open House will be held at Saxony Lutheran High School on Sunday, January 27, from 1-3 p.m. Come experience what Saxony Lutheran High School can offer your family! Take a tour, meet teachers and staff, talk with current students, and see how the Lord has blessed Saxony and how Saxony wants to share those blessings with you. Please call for more information. Neighboring Church & Community Notes The Annual After Christmas Christmas Concert by the Perry County Lutheran Chorale, will be today, January 6, at 4 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Wells. The chorale and full orchestra will present familiar favorites like Away in a Manger, 6

7 Mary Had a Baby, and the Hallelujah Chorus, along with some Chorale favorites Magnum Mysterium, Alleluia! Gloria! Magnificat! Nowell!, and Gesu Bambino. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be taken in support of the chorale. Refreshments will be served following the concert. The Messiah Choir will perform choruses and solos from all three parts of The Messiah next Sunday, January 13, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Perryville, and Sunday, January 20, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Cape Girardeau, both at 3 p.m. Both concerts will begin with pre-concert music at 2:45 p.m. The Jubilate Singers will perform at Immanuel, and a variety of special music performances will take place at Trinity. The Trinity Brass will accompany hymns. Messiah soloists will be Katie Benkendorf, Trudy Lee, Don Presson, and Eric Scott. At both concerts, Megan Benkendorf will share briefly about her experience at Lutheran Summer Music Academy and Festival, and perform a musical selection. The director of the Messiah Choir is Eric Scott. A free-will offering will be taken for a scholarship fund to promote musicianship among youth. Refreshments will be served following both concerts. Three Branson Style Fundraiser Shows, one each afternoon, will be held on Sunday, January 27, February 17, and March 10, in the Immanuel Lutheran School Gym, Perryville. Doors will open at 1 p.m., and each show will be from 2-3:30 p.m. On Sunday, January 27, Johnathan Len will perform Jukebox Memories a musical journey through yesteryear. The show on Sunday, February 17, will be Bill Forness, a Tribute to Johnny Cash. On Sunday, March 10, The Backstreet Cruisers will treat you to the music that was played on your AM car radio back-in-the-day. The cost is $25 per ticket (each show).
