I believe that when the called ministers of Christ deal with us by His divine command, in particular when they exclude openly unrepentant sinners from the Christian congregation and absolve those who repent of their sins and want to do better, this is just as valid and certain, even in heaven, as if Christ our dear Lord dealt with us Himself. The value of the life of the sheep versus the value of the life of the shepherd - is there really any comparison? Sheep are expendable. If the Shepherd dies, who will be there for the sheep? The Shepherd is so much more valuable than the sheep. And yet, the Good Shepherd says He will lay down His Life for the sheep. Hear the Word of the Lord. 6 Attention: 2015 Graduates If you will soon be graduating from elementary school, high school, or college, please contact the church office ( or no later than Wednesday, May 13, with your name, name of the school you are graduating from, and the name of the school you will be attending this fall or the degree you will have received. Thank you to LWML members for helping host a very successful Spring Rally last Sunday. This was definitely a combined effort, starting with planning and preparation weeks before the rally, and then everyone so faithfully fulfilling their duties the day of the rally. From Sephanie (Roegner) Edgar's inspirational keynote address; Pastor Benkendorf's meaningful devotions and Bible Study; Josh Vogel's talented entertainment; and Barrett Grebing's appreciated closing devotions; to the gifted leadership of Donna Hecht, the Zone president; and all the rest of the zone officers; this was a day well spent. Especially to be thanked are all our own members who took on the duties of chairing a committee, and all who helped them in any way. United in Christ Lutheran School (UCLS) Notes Minutes from the UCLS Board of Education Meeting on April 16 are available today on the south buffet. It's time for the 2015 UCLS Wine Excursion this Saturday, May 2. Tickets are $50 for a day of touring different wineries on the Shawnee Trail. The excursion will start out at the Altenburg Fairgrounds, and take a charter bus to Hedman Winery, Alto Vineyard, and Pomona. Food, wine, and fun will be shared throughout the day. Tickets can be purchased at UCLS or Gas-A-Mat. Proceeds will benefit the Washington, D.C. Trip. Get your tickets soon! Attention: All Interested 2015/2016 EPC Wildcats Sports Coaches: It is time once again to establish the Coaching Staff for all EPC Wildcats Sports for next season (15/16). It is also important that all returning coaches announce their intentions as well, as there is a new step in the process this year. Saxony Lutheran High School Notes Taco Supper Fund-Raiser The Saxony Lutheran High School soccer teams will host a Taco Supper Fund-Raiser this Tuesday, April 28, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the Moeller Commons at Saxony. Tickets are $5 in advance or $6 at the door. Advance tickets are available through the Saxony Office or from any soccer player. The ticket price includes entrée, drinks, and dessert. Proceeds will help maintain the soccer field and upgrade uniforms and equipment. The Saxony Lutheran High School Spring Concert will be Wednesday, May 6, at 7 p.m. featuring the band and choirs. Come enjoy an evening of music from their recent tour to Seward. Admission is free. A free-will offering will be collected in support of the program. 7 Lutheran Family & Children s Services (LFCS) Notes The Boas & Bling Kentucky Derby Party will be held this Thursday, April 30, from 5-9 p.m. at the Plaza Conference Center, Cape Girardeau. Get out your bowties and bling. All proceeds will benefit LFCS-Semo Region. Tickets are on sale now. Individual tickets ($35 each), as well as tables of eight ($250), and VIP tables on Millionaire s Row ($390-includes lots of extras) are available. The evening will include derby-style food, drinks, giveaways, music, prizes, dancing, a horse race, and a Best-Dressed Derby Guy or Gal Contest. Neighboring Church & Community Notes The Annual Chicken and Dumplings Dinner, hosted by Concordia Lutheran Church (836 Park Ave), Sikeston, will be held today, April 26, with serving from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. The cost of the meal is $8 for adults and $4 for children An Easter-Time Service will be held today, April 26, at 3 p.m. at Hill of Peace Lutheran Church, (510 PCR 304) Friedenberg. Rev. Dr. Daniel Harmelink will be the officiant. Fellowship and refreshments will follow the service. Annual Plant Sale The Altenburg Homemakers Annual Plant Sale will be this Tuesday, April 28, at the Altenburg Fairgrounds. Doors will open at 5 p.m., with the sale starting at 6 p.m. Proceeds will be used for community projects. This event will include attendance prizes, and refreshments will be served. Please bring a lawn chair. A Buffet-Style Breakfast will be held next Sunday, May 3, from 7:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at St. Maurus Parish, Biehle. The menu will include plain and blueberry pancakes, ham, sausage patties, scrambled eggs, German fried potatoes, biscuits, milk gravy, homemade coffeecake, and orange juice and coffee. Bethesda Lutheran Communities is accepting scholarship applications for the academic year for Lutheran high school, college, and seminary students with a career objective in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. Bethesda will award five Lutheran Student Scholastic and Service Scholarships: two $3,000 awards for current college students; one $3,000 award for a seminary student; and two $500 awards for high school seniors.
