2 The Fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost HARVEST HOME FESTIVAL Saturday & Sunday, September 16 & 17, 2017 Opening Hymn: Praise and Thanksgiving LSB 789 Invocation Confession and Absolution P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. C: But if we confess our sins, God, who is faithful and just, will forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Silence for reflection and self-examination. P: Let us confess our sins to God our Father. C: Most merciful God, we confess that we have taken you for granted. We confess that we have not given you the praise and glory you so rightly deserve. We confess that we have not appreciated all your wonderful blessings. We confess that we have focused on what we don t have instead of what we do have from You. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, please forgive us. P: The Almighty God has heard your confession and in the stead and by the command of our Lord Jesus Christ I speak these words as if from God Himself: Your sins are forgiven in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. Hymn of Praise: Sing to the Lord of Harvest LSB 893 Words of Thanksgiving (Psalm 34:1-11 whole verse by whole verse) Collect P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Let us pray. P: Heavenly Father, your mercies are new every day. Help us to find great joy and comfort in the fact that you daily care for us. Let your Holy Spirit guide us to continually seek out your gifts and appreciate them as true gifts from you; for You live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. Old Testament Genesis 1: Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing 2

3 that moves on the earth." 29 And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food." And it was so. 31 And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Epistle 1 Thessalonians 5: Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil. 23 Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. 25 Brothers, pray for us. 26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss. 27 I put you under oath before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers. 28 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. P: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. Adult Choir: All Good Gifts (Sunday) Gospel Matthew 6: "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? 28 And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 Therefore do not be anxious, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ. Apostles Creed LSB inside back cover Children s Message Sermon Hymn: Come, Ye Thankful People, Come LSB 892 Sermon: Harvest Home 3
