Invocation: Pastor: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Congregation (sings): Amen. Our Confession of Sins Pastor: Beloved in the Lord! Let us draw near with a true heart and confess our sins unto God, our Father, beseeching Him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant us forgiveness. Our help is in the name of the Lord. 4 OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US Old Testament Reading: 1 Samuel 1:1-18 (p. 243, pew Bible) Hannah fervently prayed for a child while in the temple. She was praying silently but her lips moved. Eli, the priest, wrongfully jumped to the conclusion that Hannah was drunk. Eli broke the 8 th commandment by assuming the worst of Hannah rather than taking her actions in the best possible way. Congregational Praise (sung): Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! New Testament Reading: Romans 14:1-19 ESV (p.1009, pew Bible) Congregational Welcome (sung): Glory be to You, O Lord! Christian liberty is the freedom to do or not do, to eat or not eat certain things. Freedom is never a license to sin, but in areas where neither doing nor abstaining from doing is a sin, there is liberty. The Apostle Paul provides counsel for our exercise of Christian liberty. Freedom, yes, but always with the well-being of souls in mind. Congregational Response(sung): Praise be to You, O Christ! Our Confession of Faith in the Apostolic Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. 4

9 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED at Immanuel Lutheran College Our volunteer work day at Immanuel Lutheran College will be held THIS Saturday, July 19. Plans are to leave from the church at 6:30 a.m. (time is flexible) and car-pool to Eau Claire returning Saturday evening about 9:00 p.m. Please pack a noon lunch and bring money for supper. Bring any needed tools, gloves, sunscreen, change of clothes, etc. Come enjoy a day of work, fun, and fellowship! Please sign up on the sheet in the narthex. Write after your name the area in which you would like to work (for example, roofing, painting, cleaning, etc.). My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand (John 10:27-28). NKJV Brian Walter Bergemann was summoned in the spirit into the heavenly presence of our Savior on June 28, Funeral service was held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on July 2, Interment was at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery. For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. (Gal. 3:26-27) NKJV The infant son of Stephen and Cheryl Folkerts was baptized in Immanuel Lutheran Church on July 6, 2014 by Pastor Paul D. Nolting. The baptism was witnessed by Curtis and Linda Malecha and great-grandfather, Raymond Folkerts who was also baptized. CONGREGATIONAL MEETING The July congregational meeting will be on July 21 at 7:00 p.m. Agenda items include membership, budget review, updating our financial procedures, replacing our financial secretary, school staffing for , and the long range vision of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Please contact the pastors or David Lueck if you are eligible and wish to become a voting member. 9

10 150 TH Anniversary Planning Committee Immanuel Congregation is beginning to look forward to its 150 th anniversary. We have had several men interested in being on the committee, but only one woman. It would be good to have two. Contact me if you can be that committee member. Deacon Vacancy: Craig and Kay Owings will be moving to their retirement home in Florida when Craig returns from his summer job with Pioneer Seed. For this reason, Craig will be no longer able to serve as a deacon. We will have an election to replace him at the congregational meeting on July 21. Sharing in Christ s Service, David Lueck, Congregation Chairman CLC news Pastoral calls: Pastor Nathanael Mayhew of Atlanta, GA, has accepted the call to the joint parish of Sleepy Eye/New Ulm, MN. Pastor Joel Fleischer of Marquette, MI, has received the call to Berea, Sioux Falls, SD. Missions: A team of Mission Helpers is now in Nepal. You can follow their progress at: Pastor Mike Gurath and Teacher Sherm Carstensen will be visiting churches, schools, and pastors in Kenya and Uganda over the next few weeks. Missionary Ed Starkey and wife Janice have returned safely to Chennai, India, after their furlough in the U.S. Tragic news: Two weeks ago, Scott Schiermeister, the pastor of the CLC congregation in Loveland, CO, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The circumstances of the incident leave it unclear whether or not his rational intent was to take his own life. He leaves behind his wife Peggy, two young children, and a grieving congregation. Peggy and the children have moved to Bismarck, ND to live with relatives. A fund is being set up to help the family, since they have little with which to support themselves. Contributions to this fund, as well as expressions of sympathy and encouragement, may be sent to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2510 E Divide Ave., Bismarck, ND Checks may be made out to St. Paul Lutheran with Schiermeister Family on the memo line. Please continue to keep all those affected by this tragedy in your prayers. 10

Topics for Prayer this Week: As you take your prayers to God this week, the following are a few suggestions of additional prayer topics you may wish to include: Pray for discernment to see the beams in our eyes and remove them; and then also in love aid others in removing their specks. Pray for ongoing enlightenment from God s Word as you study it and meditate upon it enlightenment that enables you to witness clearly, nurture souls, and lead well in paths prepared by God. Pray for the Vacation Bible School in our sister congregation, Bethel of Morris, MN the Traveling Vacation Bible School (TVBS) session we are supporting. Pray for our own VBS which will take place in two weeks pray for students to come, teachers in their preparations, and blessings in the week of classes. Pray for Mary Benjamin mother of Jyothi Benjamin, and wife of V.S. Benjamin in the CLC in India (CLCI). Mary fell and needs hip replacement. Pray for the Schiermeister family (cf. announcement above), and our sister congregation in Loveland. 11
