THE INVOCATION We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. PASTOR: We begin our Savior s divine service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ALL: Amen HYMN: 357 [RED HYMNAL] P: God is light and in Him is no darkness at all. ALL: If we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. P: If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. C: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. L: Let us pray ALL: Almighty God, merciful Father, we are sinful by nature, and have sinned against You in our thoughts, words, and actions. But we are sorry for our transgressions and pray You, of Your bountiful mercy, to be gracious and merciful unto us. Forgive us for Jesus sake, renew us by Your Spirit, and lead us in the way everlasting. P: Jesus Christ is the satisfactory payment for our sins, and not for our only, but also for the sins of the whole world. We are forgiven. With boldness and confidence we may approach the throne to find grace to help in time of need. In the peace of Jesus Christ s forgiveness, let us praise the Lord! C: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. P: Let us pray... through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Congregation: Amen. 2 P a g e

1 ST LESSON ~ 1 KINGS 3:5-15 We see how Solomon received his great wisdom. God had offered to give the young king whatever he would ask for. Solomon could have asked for long life, riches, revenge on his enemies and to have a great and powerful kingdom, but instead he asked for wisdom to be able to govern God s people and to distinguish between right and wrong. With God s blessing, Solomon became the wisest man who ever lived. At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, Ask! What shall I give you? 6 And Solomon said: You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. 7 Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours? 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 Then God said to him: Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone 3 P a g e

like you among the kings all your days. 14 So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days. 15 Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants. VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL CHILDREN: I AM JESUS LITTLE LAMB 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ ROMANS 8:28-39 What great comfort we have as Christians in the midst of the sufferings and trials of life. All things God will work together for my eternal good as a believer in Christ. All things! That is why we are more than conquerors through Christ, for nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of 4 P a g e

Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. 37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ THE APOSTLES CREED I believe in God the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. HYMN 347 [Red hymnal] SERMON MEDITATION read/watch sermons and services online at Jesus said, " Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" ~Luke 11:28 Text: Matthew 13:44-52 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all 5 P a g e

that he had and bought it. 47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a dragnet that was cast into the sea and gathered some of every kind, 48 which, when it was full, they drew to shore; and they sat down and gathered the good into vessels, but threw the bad away. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked from among the just, 50 and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 51 Jesus said to them, Have you understood all these things? They said to Him, Yes, Lord. 52 Then He said to them, Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old. The Gospel is Your Greatest Possession 1. Recognize its value 2. Treasure its worth 3. See its results 4. Share its blessings HYMN: 430:1-4,7-8 [RE D HYMNAL] AN OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS TO THE LORD HYMN: 441:1-2 [Red Hymnal] SPECIAL PRAYERS ~ GENERAL PRAYER ~ LORD S PRAYER THE BENEDICTION The blessing given by God for the blessing of His people (Numbers 6:24-26). P: The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you and be gracious unto you; The LORD turn His face toward you and give you His peace. C: Amen 6 P a g e

He will be arriving sometime in August. Work does remain in the parsonage. Please see the bulletin board or contact Pete Albrecht and Tyler Kern for details for what work needs yet to be done. Vacation Bible School Recap: - The children spent time studying lessons from The Fall Into Sin, Jesus' Temptation in the Wilderness, Jesus Death, Paul's Conversion, and Jesus Raising Lazarus from the Dead while relating them to a journey from an airport! - 24 children who attended. 6 of which were non members. - Over 20 volunteers made this week possible! Our thanks to all of our volunteers for all of their work this last week and in preparation for it. Our special thanks to Mrs. Wiese and Mr. Bernthal for overseeing and organizing the week! CLC News Pastor Wayne Eichstadt has returned the call to Berea, Inver Grove Heights, MN CLC Mission Helper Trip You may find regular updates of the ongoing Mission Helper trip to East Africa at the following blog: 2018clcmhteastafrica.blogspot.com A message from President Eichstadt To the membership of the CLC: Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, our loving and living Savior: One full day and portions of two other days at the recent CLC Convention were spent discussing the Joint Statement on the 7 P a g e

Termination of Fellowship. It was time well spent as many pastors and delegates expressed their support or concern regarding the document. The Spirit graciously led us as a body to conclude that the Joint Statement is scripturally sound. However, the Convention also stated that it does not resolve all of the issues involving the doctrine of church fellowship The Convention provided a path forward in expressing its desire that the meetings with ELS and WELS continue with a goal of a final determination on the Joint Statement at the 2020 Convention. What does this mean for us now? While we all pray that one day there might be God-pleasing fellowship with the ELS and WELS, we are not there now. The representatives of all three synods agree that in order for true scriptural fellowship, there must be complete agreement on all the doctrines of the Bible. We do not have that at this time. Our talks with the other synods have been and will continue to be outside the framework of fellowship. For more information, speak to your pastor. He will be happy to provide more details and answer any questions you may have. In the Savior s service, Michael Eichstadt, CLC President IN OUR PRAYERS If you are hospitalized, please let pastor know if you would like a visit!
