1 Heartbeat INDIAN HILLS COMMUNITY CHURCH July 17, 2016 Welcome Welcome to Indian Hills and to the worship of the one, true God who remembers His own! He promised to never leave or forsake us and we know He won t because He keeps His promises. Summer Music Camp Summer Music Camp meets tonight at 6 p.m. All first third graders meet in the gym and fourth eighth graders meet in the Choir Room. Students will learn the exciting truth of God s Word through songs, the basics of music theory, and have an opportunity to play a variety of instruments. Be Ready Many people want to delay their decision to trust Christ to a future time. The truth is, that day may never come and many will be left behind. Jesus doesn t want this to happen to anyone, which is why He told the parable of the Ten Virgins (Matt. 25:1 13). He wants us to be ready for His soon return. The parable shows that bridesmaids were to be ready at any moment since the bridgroom might arrive at any time. However, only five of the ten bridesmaids were ready when the bridgroom arrived. The five who were unprepared had to go purchase oil for their lamps and when they returned, the door to the marriage feast was shut. Although they begged to enter, it was too late. Jesus Christ is coming soon. If you have not believed in His death and resurrection, you are not prepared for His soon arrival. This is a serious matter you have neglected with horrible consequences. Loved one, we beg you to seek God s forgiveness while there is still time. VBS Week Thank you to everyone who helped with VBS this past week. 2 Senior High Coordinator Nick McElvain by Gale Engle Nick McElvain has always had a passion for high school kids. He began working as a high school sponsor in the 1980s and has been on 33 of the last 36 ski trips. He loves talking to and mentoring young people and considers it a privilege to challenge, encourage, and exhort our youth in their daily walk. Nick McElvain Nick will be working part time, about 15 hours a week. He plans to be in the office on Tuesdays and Thursdays. As Senior High Coordinator, Nick will take care of day to day activities. He will be responsible for planning events, registrations, Sunday school, mansion builders, ordering tickets, confirming van rentals, and coordinating with sponsors. 4 Heartbeat We may even see him at the grill. This is a good fit for Nick and the timing is perfect. Although Duane Nelsen will continue to be involved and oversee the high school, his involvement will be limited as he focuses on other aspects of the ministry. Nick grew up in Holdrege and attended a Bible teaching church with his family. After high school he came to Lincoln and attended UNL, where he met his wife. Nick and Connie were married in By God s grace, Connie became a believer in Jesus Christ on Christmas Day, Nick s sister recommended that they attend Indian Hills Community Church. Nick and Connie began attending The Hills in January 1976 and Nick says, After listening to Gil s messages for six months, the gospel became personal to me. I knew I was a sinner, separated from God. I knew there was nothing I could do in my own power to be made right with Him. In faith, I turned from my sin and believed Jesus died on the cross for me. He paid the penalty for my sins. I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst (John 6:35).

Stephanie Dowding. Children s Studies Sunday School. The children studied 2 Kings 3 and 4 and learned about Elisha. Children s Church. The children studied Matthew 8 and learned about Jesus calming the storm and casting out demons. The lesson goal is to recognize Jesus is the Son of God with power over both the natural and supernatural world. Information Workers Needed to take the old siding off the Cornerstone House on Saturday, July 23. Workers are also needed to put new siding on 6 Heartbeat the Cornerstone House on Saturday July 30. Plan to work from 8 a.m. to noon. Call Kevin Wheat, to let him know you ll be there to work. If you don t call and want to work, just show up. Bring a hammer and a pry bar. Teachers & Song Leaders Needed. There is an immediate need for a teacher and song leader for the new Country House retirement home on 70th Street. Right now, all Sundays are open. Also, there is a need for a teacher at Homestead on the fifth Sunday of every month. This is the only facility that has a 10:30 a.m. service. 5 Donated Clothes for the Clothing Outlet may be dropped off any time the church is open. Please place clothing inside the box in the Clothing Outlet closet (NE corner, by big canopy). Donated clothes should be in bags or boxes. Please put children s clothes in a separate bag or box. Clothes should be clean and in good condition. Questions? Call Brenda Turner at Boys of Faith Summer Camp is August 6 9. All incoming second through sixth grade boys are invited. Dads (or a responsible adult) must attend with second graders. Registrations are due on July 24. Sign up in the South lobby on Sunday mornings and evenings. Workers are needed to vacuum one section of the church once every five weeks. If you d like to serve in this way, please call Dara Peters at or Tami Coffin at Nursery Workers (several) are needed during the second hour worship service. Help is needed in all the rooms.
