Heartbeat INDIAN HILLS COMMUNITY CHURCH November 11, 2018 Thank you for joining us in the worship of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. We are grateful for the grace He has showered on us. He has rescued us from our lostness, our hopelessness, and the doom that was our destiny. Justice required that the Father send His Son to suffer and die, to pay the penalty for our sins. He did this at great cost to Himself. Jesus is worthy of our trust and by God s grace we have placed our hope in Him for time and eternity. He meets our every need. We worship because of the grace given to us, and praise Jesus, our High Priest, who represents us in God s presence. In His grace and mercy, He has brought us together today. God s intention is for us to be here and to take in His Word. May the Spirit guide our hearts and minds as we are fed the Words of eternal life. Holiday Season Thanksgiving is just 11 days away, and then the Christmas season begins. The choir will be rehearsing for the Christmas concert, our children will be rehearsing for their Christmas program. Christmas cards will be mailed, cookies will be baked and decorated, and everyone will be Christmas shopping. It truly is a wonderful time of the year with all the Christmas get-togethers, parties, caroling, and gift-giving. Despite all the festivities, let us not forget that 700 years before Christ was born, Isaiah prophesied, Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel (Isaiah 7:14). That baby was Jesus and He was born some 2,000 years ago. He fulfilled every single prophecy regarding His birth, His life and ministry, His death and resurrection, His role in the Church, and His purpose in coming to earth. Jesus is the one who loved and died for us. He is our foundation. While we live in a world of uncertainty, we have confidence in the God-Man who gave His very life that we may have life everlasting. What an awesome God. Heartbeat 3
Isaiah 40:12-26 The Infinite Wisdom and Power of God Scott Bailey It is amazing the amount of information we have today at our fingertips. To answer almost every trivial question or even some tough questions, all I have to do is type into my cell phone web browser and get the answer. I don t even have to get up and walk to my computer or open an encyclopedia. If I want to know what is going on in Jerusalem, all the way across the world, I can easily look it up on my cell phone. If I need to be in Jerusalem tomorrow (which is 6,554 miles away from Lincoln), I can simply buy an airline ticket, from my cell phone I might add, and I can be on my way there pretty impressive, huh? Well, the things we see as so impressive are not so impressive when we think about our God. Isaiah Chapter 40 puts the wonders of our modern technology in proper perspective. Verse 26 says, Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created the stars, the One who leads forth their host by number, He calls them all by name; because of the greatness of His might and the strength of His power, not one of them is missing. 4 Heartbeat One thing you will not find on your phone is the name God has given to each and every star! Consider Job 38:12. In this familiar passage God says, Have you ever in your life commanded the morning, and caused the dawn to know its place? This should have a resounding ring in our ears every second of the day! God and His power and wisdom should control our actions and thinking. Worries and anxiety can be dissolved with our God. He is the One that commands the morning. Why then do we resist letting Him command the actions in our lives every day? Scott and Merrily Bailey
Girls of Grace Pie Pick-up Wednesday, Nov. 14th 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. East Window of the Event Kitchen Questions? Contact Aaron Terry at Sunday Night Church Come back tonight for Sunday Night Church. Gil will be teaching and you will meet people on a more informal basis. If you are only attending church on Sunday morning, you are missing much of what the ministry offers. As the weeks and years flee by, we need to capitalize on the opportunities God gives us and sometimes that takes discipline. However, looking back in five or ten years (should the Lord tarry) we will surely agree that a little discipline was well worth what we received in return. Bible Fellowship Hour If you are involved in the Bible Fellowship Hour, which meets Sunday mornings from 8:45 9:45 a.m., you know the blessings that come from studying God s Word and building friendships with likeminded believers. One of the advantages of regularly attending a class is praying for one another and knowing class mates are praying for you. Friends notice when you re sick and help you when you re down. Everyone is blessed when each of us determines to reach out to others in Christ s love. If you d like to learn more about Bible Fellowship Hour classes, stop by the information center in the south lobby. Heartbeat 5

Showdown at IHCC Corral Gail DeRiese The Girls of Grace first through sixth grade cowgirls had an overnight Showdown Friday evening (Oct. 19), at the IHCC Corral (Family Center). The girls were assigned to their bunk houses, then chowed down (in a lady-like manner) on pizza and salad at the Chuckwagon. Next, the Maverick of our corral, Carrie Smith, alerted us to the showdowns that ambush the unarmed unless we choose to follow our Boss King Jesus. 8 Heartbeat There s the showdown between grumbling versus gratitude, gossip versus grace. Maverick Smith warned of the most important showdown that must happen, first and foremost: Do I accept Jesus free gift of salvation or believe Satan s lies about my works saving me? Each girl was asked who they would choose to serve? (Joshua 24:15). Whoa, Partner! Maverick Smith gave us a lot to think about! Range Boss Marilyn Garrett rode in next. She helped the cowgirls create a western-style picture frame with pockets to hold reminders of the Showdown. Then the cowgirls were off to the Helping Hoedown. First and second graders dusted the sanctuary chairs; third and fourth washed Wee Care toys; and fifth and sixth whipped up tasty meals for the food service ministry. Before heading to the bunkhouse, the cowgirls were to take a quiet trail ride through the good
land (our church). But not this night yikes, there are showdowns all along the way. Traps were laid, disguised as everyday problems, but with tricky choices! What s a girl to do? What would Jesus have us do? Let s find help in the Scriptures. Sure as shootin, God s Word confirms the way Jesus would have us choose. Of course, each showdown had its share of silly fun. Whether shooting nerf guns at nasty red cups labeled with bad choices like hit, yell, pout, scream, etc.; or batting balloons with pool noodles; giggles abounded, with these silly tasks hopefully reinforcing lifetime truths. Before lights-out, the Gospel was again shared. And before we knew it, morning sunshine so early! All hustled back to the ol IHCC Corral for a final time together early Saturday morning. Choose Jesus in every showdown you encounter today, and every day! Those were the parting words given to the cowgirls as they moseyed on home. Thank you, everyone, for your steadfast prayers and sweet support for Girls of Grace. Heartbeat 9

If you are over age 70½ or own grain commodities then a couple of unique giving methods may be a good fit for you. For those over 70½, you may want to consider giving directly to the church from your traditional IRA. In most cases it can directly reduce your taxable income. For those who own grain commodities, by giving grain directly to the church this too can reduce your taxable income. For more information, contact Jeff Horn or Carroll Lavalleur.
