This public act opened Mary, Joseph, and Jesus to a huge threat. The fear that this could be a political figure who could shake up the present system was apparent to their present leaders. He was not a political leader, of course. But, it caused Mary, Joseph, and Jesus to become refugees. What a terrible life - living away from home, fearing for their death. Immigration and refugee resettlement is a huge issue. Let us keep in mind that each of these persons who are on the move are real people. Let us enter this reality into our conscience on this Immigration Sunday. Peace, Fr. JOHN S NEWS Connections Ministry Our partnership with St. John s Episcopal Church in serving the needs of the homeless in a shelter for a week at a time is going very well. The next week that we take our turn helping begins on Monday, January 7th. If you have expressed an interest in helping with this ministry and have not been contacted yet, please be patient with us. We have had many volunteers express an interest. We ask that you contact Pat Shortall at or send s to Pat at pshort@hicorytech.net or to Barb Radke at radke008@umn.edu to learn more or to volunteer for the next week that we serve. ST. JOHN S BOOK CLUB The St. John Book Club book will meet on Wednesday, January 16 at 1:30 pm in the St. John s library. New members are welcome. 4 SACRAMENTS SACRAMENTS OF THE CHURCH Baptism - To prepare your child for Baptism, it is essential that parents participate in Pre-Jordan preparation. Marriage - Contact the parish office 1 year in advance of wedding date. Marriage prep is required. Becoming Catholic - If you or someone you know are interested in becoming Catholic or have questions about the process (Christian Initiation), please contact the parish office. Sacrament of the Sick - Anointing If you have a serious illness, are facing hospitalization and/ or surgery, please contact the parish office to arrange to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick.
