I thought it would be pertinent to share at St. John s as well. Beware of a phone scam that has shown up recently. Some of you may have received a text allegedly from Fr. (Pastor s name), asking for donations, money, or gift cards. This was/is a scam. In talking with others, including some priests, this scam has been traveling around the Midwest and the country. I was told that this is happening in other Dioceses and Archdioceses. People are getting access to parish directories and other listings and making calls. Please note that neither the parish staff nor myself as pastor would solicit for gift cards or money via text messages. Diocesan policy would prohibit a priest from soliciting money from the faithful for his own purposes. Gifts given to the priest cannot be done through the priest soliciting them through letters, texts or through personal appeals. Peace, Fr. Have you ever felt called to pay it forward? Consider training as a hospice and palliative care volunteer with Mayo Clinic Health System Hospice - Mankato. Our volunteers play an integral role in caring for seriously and terminally ill patients and their families. Life s final journey is a sacred time and hospice volunteers are privileged to be part of it, through visiting, listening, playing games, doing legacy work, or just offering a supportive presence. We are looking for men and women to volunteer in all of our service areas. Volunteer training is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, April 8 & 9, from 9 a.m. 3 p.m., and Wednesday, April 10, from 9 a.m. noon. It s recommended that trainees plan to attend all three days of training. This will be held at the MEC Meeting/Community Room, Suite 354, Madison East Center, 1400 Madison Ave., Mankato.
