You may now pick up your poinsettias from the church or O-Center. Thank you to everyone that remembered their loved ones with flowers this Christmas season. Food, Fellowship and a Fundraiser...The Knights will be sponsoring a chicken dinner at the Charleston Board of Board of Trade on January 27th. All proceeds will go towards our goal of providing two $500 scholarships. The Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's parish invite you to join us for Mass and a Chicken Dinner. This is to correspond with the dinner being served at Charleston Board of Trade. Sunday, January 27th evening Mass will be held as 5:30 PM, the Knights will then deliver a Chicken Dinner at 6:30 PM. The dinner will include 2 pieces of Chicken, potatoes and 2 sides for $10 per person or $4 for children 10 and under. To sign up please stop in the back of church after Mass this weekend to buy your presale wristband. At the time of purchase tell them you would like your dinner to be a delivered to St. Mary's! Come along May 18-28, 2020, to take in a spiritual event that happens only every ten years, The Passion Play of Oberammergau. This international event has been taking place for over 400 years in Germany! This will all be part of a pilgrimage taking in three Alpine countries, Southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland. These are three of the most beautiful countries in all of Europe, and we ll visit great sites such as Heidelberg, the Rhine Valley, Lucerne, Salzburg, Munich and so much more! The 10 week course will meet every other Monday evening. To register or any questions, please give Dixie a call at Lucy Marie Vonderhaar, daughter of Joseph and Colleen, became a child of God through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism on Saturday, December 29th at St. Mary s of the Assumption. We pray that Lucy will live her baptism by continuing to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ all the days of her life. Baptized into the faith Congratulations to Justin and Abby (Abolt) Mehmert who were married at St. Mary s on Saturday, December 29th. May God bless their life with happiness, fill their home with joy and peace and guide them through all their years together.

3 On Thursday, December 27th the West Point Care Center was treated with Christmas carol by Gordy Fedler and Ed Blindt in the afternoon. That evening they were visited by the St. Mary s choir for a sing along of more Christmas music. The choir is always looking for more volunteers. If you enjoy singing what better way to share God s gift than with others. Practices are on Thursday nights at 7:00 PM and the choir sings at Sunday 8:00 AM Mass. You are always welcome to come. At Christmas Eve Mass at St Boniface Father Dennis invited the children to go forward and participate with the blessing of the crib. STEWARDSHIP Many parishes have embraced stewardship as a way to not only remain financially solvent but spiritually vital with roots deeply immersed within the working community. Stewardship, the careful moral management of time, talent and treasure, is a way for Catholics to serve God and others with the gifts and talents God has bestowed on them, each according to his or her ability. It requires a willingness to trust that God will meet their needs even in sacrificial giving. And that includes much more than simply contributing from financial resources. Offering time and skills to serve others and the Church is also vital to the life of a today s Catholics. People who want to live as Christian disciples and Christian stewards face serious obstacles. In the United States and other nations, a dominant secular culture often contradicts religious convictions about the meaning of life. This culture frequently encourages us to focus on ourselves and our pleasures. At times, we can find it far too easy to ignore spiritual realities and to deny religion a role in shaping human and social values. As Catholics who have entered into the mainstream of American society and experienced its advantages, many of us also have been adversely influenced by this secular culture. We know what it is to struggle against selfishness and greed, and we realize that it is harder for many today to accept the challenge of being a Christian steward. It is essential, therefore, that we make a special effort to understand the true meaning of stewardship and live accordingly. The life of a Christian steward models the life of Jesus. It is challenging and even difficult, in many respects, yet intense joy comes to those who take the risk to live as Christian stewards. Women and men who seek to live as stewards learn that "all things work for good for those who love God" (Rom 8:28). After Jesus, we look to Mary as an ideal steward. As the Mother of Christ, she lived her ministry in a spirit of fidelity and service; she responded generously to the call. We must ask ourselves: Do we also wish to be disciples of Jesus Christ and Christian stewards of our world and our Church? Central to our human and Christian vocations, as well as to the unique vocation each one of us receives from God, is that we be good stewards of the gifts we possess. God gives us this divine-human workshop, this world and Church of ours. The Spirit shows us the way. Stewardship is a part of that journey. ~Parts taken from todaycatholic.org
