4 SBC is an evangelical Anabaptist cllege empwering servant leaders t fllw Jesus, serve the church, and engage the wrld. We accmplish this missin thrugh: Biblical educatin that is practical, analytical, relatinal, and creative. Intensive faith and life frmatin within a discipleship cmmunity. Develping and discerning ministry skills with a missinal fcus. Relevant biblical and ministry training fr cngregatins. Strategic partnerships in educatin and church ministry. The Cre Values f SBC have driven the ministry f the cllege since its beginning in These values cntinue t be the basis f the learning prcess in all the educatinal prgrams f the schl. Since the Bible is the final authrity fr faith and life, the truth as revealed in the Scriptures is the basis fr learning. The New Testament s affirmatin that All Scripture is Gd-breathed and is useful fr teaching, rebuking, crrecting and training in righteusness, s that the man f Gd may be thrughly equipped fr every gd wrk, indicates the value f the Scriptures (2 Tim. 3:16). The instructin Jesus gave as He was leaving His disciples at the end f His earthly ministry was that they were t make disciples f all natins, baptizing them in the name f the Father and f the Sn and f the Hly Spirit, and teaching them t bey everything I have cmmanded (Matt. 28:19). This mdel fr teaching places the respnsibility n the teacher t be an example and requires the learner t then fllw that mdel. Jesus established the church as the new cmmunity f the peple f Gd. He then cmmissined this new cmmunity t be His witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria and t the ends f the earth (Acts 1:8). These tw cncepts emphasize the imprtance f the believer s relatinships t the church and t the wrld cmmunity. Jesus said t His disciples that He came nt t be served but t serve (Matt. 20:28). Learning is nt simply fr persnal enrichment but fr the purpse f serving thers. Jesus teaching n being a servant must be the mtivatin fr learning. PAGE 3

41 SBC s statement f faith prvides a summary f biblical dctrine, which is cnsnant with evangelical Christianity, while expressing a cmmitment t the histric Anabaptist interpretatin f the faith. that the Scriptures f the Old and New Testaments are whlly inspired by Gd and are the infallible and final authrity in faith and life. in ne Gd, eternally existing in three persns, Father, Sn and Hly Spirit. that Jesus Christ was begtten by the Hly Spirit, brn f the Virgin Mary, and is true Gd and true man. that man was created in the image f Gd, that he sinned, and thereby incurred that death which is separatin frm Gd, and that all human beings are sinful by nature and in need f redemptin which can be accmplished alne by the grace and pwer f Gd. that the Lrd Jesus Christ died fr ur sins, accrding t the Scriptures, as a representative and substitutinary sacrifice, and that all wh believe in Him are justified n the grunds f His sacrificially shed bld. in the resurrectin f the crucified bdy f ur Lrd Jesus Christ, in His ascensin int heaven, and in His present life there fr us as ur High Priest and Advcate. We believe in His persnal, visible, bdily cming again accrding t the Scriptures. that all wh receive, by faith, the Lrd Jesus Christ are brn again f the Hly Spirit and thereby becme children f Gd with pwer t vercme sin and live a life pleasing t Gd. that the Christian Church cnsists f believers wh have repented frm their sins, have accepted Christ by faith, are brn again, and sincerely endeavur by the grace f Gd t live the Christ-life. that a way f life is taught by Christ and the Scriptures which is Gd s plan fr the human individual and fr the race, and that thse wh espuse discipleship f Christ are bund t live in this way, thus manifesting in their persnal life and scial relatinships the lve and hliness f Gd. We believe that this way f life als means nn-resistance t evil by carnal means, the fullest exercise f lve, and the abslute abandnment f the use f vilence, including warfare. We believe, further, that the Christian life will, f necessity, express itself in nncnfrmity t the wrld in life and cnduct. in the bdily resurrectin f all peple, the everlasting blessedness f the saved, and the everlasting punishment f the lst. that ur generatin is respnsible fr the cmplete evangelizatin f this generatin and that all believers carry part f this respnsibility and shuld make the reaching f this bjective their life s wrk. D yur best t present yurself t Gd as ne apprved, a wrker wh des nt need t be ashamed and wh crrectly handles the wrd f truth. 2 Timthy 2:15 SBC had its beginning as a Bible Schl when Rev. By the mid-frties the schl s prgram had expanded, with increasing emphasis n preparing wrkers fr the ministry f the church bth at hme and abrad. Annual missin cnferences instilled in students a heart fr glbal missins and fr utreach in Western Canada. Reflecting these values, students were granted bth a Steinbach Bible Schl Certificate and an Evangelical Teacher Training Assciatin Diplma. In 1947, the name changed t Steinbach Bible Academy as the schl expanded t prvide high schl training fr many adults in the cnstituency. This pursuit f excellence and relevance cntinued thrugh candidate status with AABC (nw ABHE r Assciatin fr Biblical Higher Educatin) in 1987, finally resulting in accreditatin in Since ABHE accreditatin, a number f universities have extended credit transfer privileges fr apprved curses.
