4 Full-Time Associate Coordinator of Youth Ministry Position Available The Terre Haute Catholic Community is seeking a full-time Associate Coordinator of Youth Ministry to work collaboratively with the Coordinator of Youth Ministry to facilitate a Total Youth Ministry program for the five city parishes of Terre Haute, Indiana for Grades This includes, but is not limited to: religious education and Confirmation programs, retreats and prayer services, mission trips, service projects, leadership development of students and volunteers, and fundraising. Applicant should be a practicing Catholic and possess a love for and knowledge of the Catholic faith, as well as a strong commitment to the faith development of young people. The applicant must have the ability to organize, collaborate with coordinator, and work well with volunteers, exhibit good leadership skills, creativity and initiative. Professional work ethic and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. Bachelor s Degree and Youth Ministry programming experience preferred. 5 Reflections from Deacon Mike Stratman I'm Not Listening In the program, Stephen Ministries, it tells us about the importance of learning to listen and respond effectively There to those will in be difficult a meeting situations. for anyone I have listened who is to interested some ministers in attending relate some the of National their own Catholic experiences Youth of listening Conference to suffering people. They mention that people often thank them for all they have done for them. "On many occasions," one minister says, "I have not done anything. I have just listened." I quickly came to the conclusion that 'just listening' was indeed an effective way of helping others." Most of us know or heard of the Book of Job, and how he sought the same thing from his friends, just listen! While it is true they sat with him in silence for a period of time, they didn't listen when Job started talking. Instead, they talked and talked but failed to comfort him. In verse 31:35, Job cries, "Oh, that I had one to hear my case!" Listening says to me, "What matters to you matters to me." Some people may want advice, but often they just want to be listened to by someone who loves and cares about them. Listening is hard work, and it takes time. It takes time to listen long enough to hear the other person's true heart, so that if we do speak, we speak with gentle wisdom. When I fall into the trap of thinking about an answer while others are speaking, I'm not listening. Are you listening with care? Pray to God to give us a loving, caring heart and a listening ear! It will be held in the St. Patrick Rectory from 6:30-8:30pm. Babysitting is available and all are welcome to attend. Beginning June 4 th at SMM, the Adult Bible Study is offering Bishop Robert Barron s Catholicism: The Pivotal Players. Discover the figures who shaped the Church and changed the world! Attend any or all of the 12 sessions at no cost, and no previous study needed. We will meet in the craft room of the Dede Center from 9:30-10:45 am, before Sunday Mass. Each Sunday, we will explore a new Pivotal Player in the life of the Church. Thank you for a great year in Religious Education! As our children grow up in a secular society, it s so important to nurture their faith in God and their relationship with Jesus! Registration packets for the fall will be mailed in July, posted on our webpage and also available at the bulletin boards in the Church. 6 St. Patrick Parish In the Roman Catholic tradition, the people of Saint Patrick Parish are called to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ by our words and actions through the celebration of the Sacraments, acts of justice and charity and life-long faith formation; the fruits of which are a welcoming faith-filled community bringing ourselves and others, through God s grace, to salvation. Feast of the Ascension- This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of Jesus up into heaven! For 40 Days after Easter, Jesus appeared to his followers and taught them many things. Jesus told his disciples to stay in Jerusalem and wait for the promise of the Father: to be baptized by the Holy Spirit! This baptism will give power to witness to Christ as the Son of God. Then, on the 40 th day after Easter, Jesus ascended into heaven by his own power. We, like His first disciples, wait in prayer for the gift of the Holy Spirit that will come next weekend! VBS Volunteers Needed Volunteers are needed for VBS this year, June rd. The volunteer orientation meeting is Monday, June 5 at 6:30 pm in the basement of the Fr. Joe Kern Center, 1801 Poplar.
