Dear Friends Dear Friends, Five summers ago, I had the joy of being assigned to St. Margaret Mary s and St. Patrick s for the summer. I learned a lot that summer and I have many fond memories of those days. It is hard to believe that soon I will become a priest! I will be ordained on Saturday, June 6, at 10 am at Ss. Peter & Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis. My Mass of Thanksgiving ( First Mass ) will be at my home parish, St. Charles Borromeo in Bloomington at 4 pm the same day. A reception will follow at the parish. Pleas know that you are more than welcome to attend any of these events, but we need an RSVP by May 1 at stcharlesbloomington.org/rsvp if you are interested. Mike Keucher Deacon s Corner Right with God I was listening to the radio while driving and there was an ad for an upcoming seminar which sounded interesting. The announcer said, You can beat death for good! Attend my seminar and I ll show you how. I wondered for a few moments what the speaker would claim could beat death and what his suggestions might be. I thought perhaps a special diet or exercise program. After listening a little longer, I realized he had said, You can beat debt for good. Ha! Ha! The most wonderful news is that we can beat death because Jesus paid our debt with His life. Our debt of sin meant a separation from God, but Jesus willingly gave up His life on the cross to pay what we owed. When the two Mary s went to the tomb to anoint Jesus body, an angel told them that He is risen. With great joy they ran to bring His disciples the good news. Jesus has risen, and His disciples had reason to rejoice. Jesus removed the sting of death so we can beat death for good in Jesus death and resurrection! We owed a debt we couldn t pay, but Jesus paid a debt He didn t owe. Through Jesus perfect work, we can be right with God because Jesus is alive! Happy Easter from my family to yours! Deacon Mike Bulletin Guidelines All submissions for the bulletin must be sent to Malia Mohan by Wednesday at noon of the week requested, and information must be approved by a staff member. If requesting a flier to be inserted, the information should not be repeated in the bulletin, and longer than a paragraph. There is a new limit of 3 fliers per week. Commitment Cards Time, Talent, Treasure Thanks to all parishioners who returned their St. Patrick Parish Commitment card and Archdiocesan Intention card. If you have not yet returned your cards there is still time to do so. You may drop them in the collection basket or return them by mail to the parish office. If you need Commitment or Intention cards there are some at each entrance to the church or you may call the parish and one will be sent to you. Your commitments help us to carry out the mission of St. Patrick Parish and make it possible for our parish to minister to the needs of our own parish family as well as the needs of the wider community and the Archdiocese. 3 Faith Formation BAPTISM CLASS: Our next class is scheduled for April 12, 2015 from 12-3 pm in the School library/rectory. Please call the Parish office to register RELIGIOUS EDUCATION There will be no Religious Education Classes on Easter Sunday. We will start up again on April 12. Join us on Sunday, April 19 for Family Service Field Trips. The whole family is welcome to attend. We will be studying the Catholic Social Justice Teachings and doing service projects at the following locations: PreK/Kindergarten will study Care for God s Creation & care for the grounds of the church. First Grade will go to Meadows Manor East to do a craft activity with seniors to practice Preferential Option for the Poor. Second Grade will go to the Food Bank to create backpacks of food for low income students to practice Rights and Responsibilities. Third/Fourth Grade will go to Mosaic & work with disabled children as the Call to Family, Community, and Church Participation. Fifth/Sixth Grade will bring items to the Crisis Pregnancy Center to support The Life & Dignity of the Human Person. Seventh/Eighth Grade will learn about the Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers. Students in grades 1-6 will need permission slips returned, so if you have not returned your signed permission slips, please do so next Sunday. Thanks! RCIA This Wednesday, April 8, the RCIA will reflect upon the Easter Vigil experience, and also talk about the Catholic Worldview of God s Plan of Salvation. This will be at St. Margaret Mary s Legacy Room from 6:30-8:30 pm. Babysitting is available. CRS RICE BOWLS Hungering for Celebration! We prayed, fasted, and gave alms and now we celebrate! Our Lenten Journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends in our own hearts, where Jesus reigns forever. Let us rejoice in our risen Lord and in the lives we ve changed this Lent in Tanzania, Nicaragua, Niger, Lebanon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and all over the world! Don t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowls to the Rice Bowl box in Church. CATHOLIC CHARITIES The Bethany House soup kitchen, program of Catholic Charities in Terre Haute has served a noon-time meal to hungry local residents for 35 years, 7 days a week without missing one single day! We are really sorry for any inconvenience! COFFEE We will meet again on April 7th. SERVICE SATURDAY Service Saturday on April 11 has been moved to Sunday, April 12 at 3:30 pm. We are going to be continuing to plan for our Date Night service project on May 2. ST. BENEDICT S LOCK IN Come out and support St.Benedict on Saturday, April 18 as they celebrate 150 years as a parish. We will have Brother Bob Baxter coming out to speak about Franciscan spirituality and Fr. Matthew will graciously be cooking pasta! Festivities begin at 7 pm and wrap up at 8 am. There is a Mass at St. Benedict s at 8:30 am for those interested.

4 Soup Kitchen John 11:25 I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. The glorious resurrection that we celebrate this Eastertime has beautiful meaning for each one of us. In the Soup Kitchen, Easter is about the life-giving flow of food and hope that touches the lives of our dear friends who come for a meal. Easter is about second chances and grace in a time of need. Special thanks to the middle school students who made thank you cards for each box. We had eight names of soldiers (five males and three females) who each received two boxes of goodies to help them through the long months of deployment away from their families. If you need help checking or installing a smoke detector, please contact the THFD at Divine Mercy Sunday The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a special devotion that Jesus shared with St. Maria Faustina. As the Marian priests and brothers note, Divine Mercy Sunday is the Sunday after Easter, a day that celebrates the merciful love of God shining through the whole Sacred Triduum and the whole Easter mystery. It is a day of declaration of reparation for all sin, thus the Day of Atonement. Please join St. Joseph University Parish, 113 S 5th St, as we prayerfully request God s Mercy upon all of at 3 pm in the church on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 12. CODA HELP NEEDED! C.O.D.A is a local shelter which houses those dealing with domestic violence. They are in need of items such as towels, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, baby diapers size 4 specifically, household cleaning items like dish soap, detergent, etc. Both women and men face domestic violence, so the choice of items can be cross genders. You can find C.O.D.A s wish list at their website A drop off container will be set in the connecting hallway between the Poplar Street and 19th Street entrances to the Church. Deadline for donations is April 17. Altar Society News The Living Rosary Altar Society will meet on Tuesday, April 14 at 1 pm in the FLC. At each meeting we will take special intentions before we pray the rosary as a group. Every St. Patrick Parishioner is a member & we are urging everyone who is able to attend. You will be truly blessed as we pray the rosary & fellowship. This month we will be donating to the Providence Food Pantry in West Terre Haute. There are approximately 330 families who are served during the month. Food items & bars of soap are truly needed, but they can use just about anything. These people are truly in need so let us support this ministry well. We will also be replacing the cords on the Eucharistic Minister crosses during this meeting time. Refreshments will be served by Bonnie Born & Elizabeth Davidson. If you have never been please come, meet and enjoy fellowship with women & men in our parish who enjoy praying the rosary and helping those in need. Parish Pastoral Council Calling for stewards of time and talent for Parish Pastoral Council! Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Elections will be held in May. We are seeking persons who can 1) contribute time to a monthly 1 1/2 hour meeting 2) contacting selected parish ministry leaders for monthly updates; and 3) contribute talent to big picture thinking about the current & future of the St. Patrick Parish family. Elected terms are for three years. Nominating committee members Jeff Kinne (kinnejeff@gmail.com), Tim Monaghan (tmonaghan22@hotmail.com), and Kevin Sutterer (sutterer@rose-hulman.edu) will be contacting parishioners we think would be good stewards. Due to federal regulations, if patients do not inform the admitting staff, the church will not know of their hospital stay. Patients can always call the church directly if a visit is desired or sacrament of the sick is needed. Religious affiliation information is not normally obtained from patients who enter the hospital through the emergency room. Always feel free to call us if you are in the hospital or are planning a hospital stay.
