Deacon s Corner A New Direction I read a story about a 60 year old hotel in Kansas being renovated into apartments. A rusty ship that is docked in Philadelphia being restored and may become a hotel or a museum; Hanger 61, a piece of architecture at the old Stapleton Airport in Colorado, being transformed into a church. Each structure had a specific use that is no longer used. Yet someone was able to see promise and a new purpose in each one of them. If structures can find new life and direction, why not people? Think about these men in Scripture whose lives took an unexpected direction. There was Jacob, who wrestled with the angel of the Lord; Moses, who talked to a burning bush; Paul, who was temporarily blinded. Their stories were different, but all had a change of direction when they had an encounter with God and sent them down a new path. We too may experience circumstances that change the course of our lives. But God reminds us to give all your worries to Me because I care about you. As you cling to God s promises to us, ask Him to reveal new direction and keep your eyes on the Lord so you won t lose sight of your purpose in life. Together through prayer and service, Deacon Mike Mass Intentions There are a number of weekday Masses to be offered this year in need of intentions. Please call the parish office for more information or to have a Mass offered in honor of a loved one at Bulletin Guidelines All submissions for the bulletin must be sent to Malia Mohan by Wednesday at noon of the week requested, and information must be approved by a staff member. If requesting a flier to be inserted, the information should not be repeated in the bulletin, and longer than a paragraph. There is a new limit of 3 fliers per week. Commitment Cards Thanks to all parishioners who returned their St. Patrick Commitment card & Archdiocesan Intention Card. If you have not yet returned your cards there is still time to do so. You may drop them in the collection or return them by mail to the parish office. If you need Commitment Cards there are some at each entrance to the Church or you may call the Parish Office at and one will be sent to you. Your commitments help us to carry out the mission of St. Patrick Parish and make it possible for our parish to minister to the needs of our own parish family as well as the needs of the wider community and the Archdiocese. Thank you! The Stewardship Committee 298 of 620 families received 48% response rate Parish Census We are in the process of updating the family information for our 2014 Parish Census. Is your family information correct? Have you changed your phone number in the last year or so? Have you dropped your land lines and only use cell phones? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they included in your membership record. If you have not recently informed the parish office about any changes to your record, please let us know now so the information in the Parish Office is correct. 3 Faith Formation BAPTISMS Baptisms are held on the 4th Sunday of each month at 1pm. BAPTISM CLASS: Our next class is scheduled for Friday, May16, 2014 from 6:30 pm 9 pm in the St. Patrick School Library. Please call the Parish office to register RELIGIOUS EDUCATION Do you enjoy sharing your faith with children? Would you like to be a Classroom Assistant for the Religious Education Program? Beginning in August, we will need 3 classroom assistants to help out in the Kindergarten and 5/6 grade classes. RCIA The next RCIA Inquiry Class will cover the topic of Prayer on Wednesday, May 21, in the Dede center at St. Margaret Mary, from 6:30-8:30 pm. The RCIA Mystagogia Class will be meeting every Wednesday at 6:30 pm in the Legacy Room at SMM to view the Catholicism Series by Fr. Robert Barron. This Wednesday, May 21, we will watch Happy Are We: The Teachings of Jesus. CRISIS PREGNANCY CENTER The Crisis Pregnancy Center is in need of donations of larger size diapers, Sizes You can drop off donations at the doors, or at the Parish Rectory. Jordan Isaacs/ Justine Tucker Laura Burdick/ Kevin Lubus Catholic Charities News With the canonization of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II, we have two more saints who had a deep love for the poor and vulnerable to intercede for the ministry of Catholic Charities. Please ask for their prayers that we can bring hope to those who come to us broken, alone and afraid. Vacation Bible School! Save the Date! Vacation Bible School is Monday, June 23-Friday, June 27 this year, for children ages 4 to grade 5. Those going into grade 6 and up are needed for group leaders, help with snack, games, crafts, etc. Please register your child online at gpgs/home.aspx. Those wanting to volunteer should also register at the online site, or call the church office and we will register you. Marriage & Annulments On Wednesday, June 18, the RCIA team will host a presentation on what the Church teaches about Marriage and Annulments. We will also have a married couple present on their experiences going through the Annulment process. This will be held in the Legacy Room at St. Margaret Mary, at 6:30 pm. If you need babysitting for this presentation, please contact the Church Office by June 10 so this may be arranged. Hilliree Hicks/ Brett Brown Christina Vega/Shawn Lowery Summer Bible Study Opportunities Change for Life Help those that are less fortunate give their babies a place to rest their heads by donating your excess change to the Crisis Pregnancy Center Baby Bottle Campaign! Through this campaign, the CPC will purchase cribs that our clients earn through the Encouraging Parents Together Program. Mother s Day (May 11) -Father s Day (June 15) To participate in this ministry opportunity, simply fill a bottle with your excess change through this Campaign, and return the filled bottle to your change on June 15. It s just that easy! There are several Summer Bible Studies available this year! Wednesday evenings, starting May 14, 6:30 pm at SMM in the Legacy Room, we will present Fr. Robert Barron s DVD Series on Catholicism. On Friday mornings, at 9:30 am (after the 9 am Mass) at SMM in the Legacy Room, we will present the Creed Series. This will go now through June. On Sunday mornings at 9:30 am (Before the 11 am Mass), at SMM in the rectory, we will present The Psalms. Feel free to join us whenever you are available!

4 Soup Kitchen We know, dear brothers and sisters, that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people. 1 Thessalonians 1:4) We had a wonderful example of how God loves us and takes care of us in our Kitchen. We received some leftover rice and vegetables from St. Patrick School. As often happens in the Kitchen, chicken and rice were on the menu for that day, and I was just getting ready to go get some rice for this soup. Instead, we had another reminder that God takes care of us and loves us very much. It was a small thing really, but it was actually a very big thing that day. It is a great blessing to be chosen by God, who loves us. Sharing that love with others is one of the great joys of our faith. Thank you to all those who are daily bringing things into our Kitchen! Needs for May: Potatoes (canned or fresh produce) Salad Dressing ranch is our most requested but we serve all kinds Tomato Paste Cream of Chicken or Cream of Mushroom soup Bishop Brute Days Bishop Brute Days is a 3 day overnight retreat for young men, ages 13-17, who are open to the possibility of priesthood & seeking to build their relationship with Christ. This retreat is a perfect opportunity for young men to meet seminarians & live in the seminary itself. I know this to be true, for my path to priesthood began in the 6th grade with Vocations Week, a weeklong seminary summer camp at St. Meinrad Seminary (1962!). My path did not lead me there for high school seminary (I arrived as a college freshman in 1968), but a visit to the then Bishop Brute Latin School for a couple Friday evenings recreation night was very helpful in my entry to studying for & discerning a life as a priest. Any young man in our parishes who would be interested in learning more about this exciting opportunity to explore seminary and your relationship with Christ, please contact me at , or catch me after a weekend Mass! Fr. Rick Adoration Chapel Eucharist Adoration is the spiritual practice of spending time in the presence of the exposed Host. One of the things that most identifies us as Catholics is our belief in the Eucharist as the Real Presence of Christ. Eucharistic Adoration provides us with a chance to be with our Savior one on one. Through this practice, we are invited to spend time alone with God in his real, physical form and to bring to Jesus all our cares, concerns, prayers, hopes & thoughts. We set aside a special time, a respite from our hectic modern lives, to create a personal space in which to meet our God. By doing so, we grow more in tune with God. Family Home Rosary This week, Our Lady of Fatima pilgrim statue will visit the home of James & Jennifer Bailey (2003 Wilbury Ln, phone ). Parishioners are welcome to pray the Rosary on Monday at 7 pm, followed by the discussion of Our Lady of Fatima Stressed Modesty in Dress. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately. 4) Keep a small fire extinguisher handy. 5) Never smoke around fuel. *very explosive.* If you need help checking or installing a smoke detector, please contact the THFD at Catholics Return Home Are you concerned about the many non-practicing Catholics in our Community? Are you interested in helping them find their way back to the Church? We are starting up a program entitled Catholics Returning Home. If you are interested in being a part of the team, please attend the inquiry meeting on Wednesday, May 21 at 6 pm in the Rectory. We will meet once a month from August to December for an hour to plan the program, and then we will present the program during 6 weeks starting in January.
