Not to sight, or taste, or touch be credit, Hearing only do we trust secure; I believe, for God the Son hath said it Word of Truth that ever shall endure. On the Cross was veiled Thy Godhead's splendor, Here Thy manhood lieth hidden too; Unto both alike my faith I render, And, as sued the contrite thief, I sue. Though I look not on Thy wounds with Thomas, Thee, my Lord, and Thee, my God, I call: These words written by St. Thomas Aquinas and translated so beautifully by Gerard Manley Hopkins offer much food for contemplation. On this, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, let us pray for an increase in love and devotion to the Eucharist so we might be transformed more and more into the image of Him who nourishes us. Fr. Colin Make me more and more believe Thy promise, Hope in Thee, and love Thee over all. O Memorial of my Saviour dying, Living Bread that givest life to man; May my soul, its life from Thee supplying, Taste Thy sweetness, as on earth it can. Deign, O Jesus, pelican of heaven, Me, a sinner, in Thy Blood to lave, To a single drop of which is given All the world from all its sin to save. Contemplating Lord, Thy hidden presence, Grant me what I thirst for and implore, In the revelation of Thine essence To behold Thy glory evermore. P.S. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament continues throughout the year here at Cathedral of the Holy Family on Thursdays from 7 to 9 pm. These evenings are excellent occasions to draw close to our Lord in quiet prayer and to unburden our hearts of the many cares and worries that weigh us down. As Pope Emeritus Benedict says quite beautifully, Eucharistic Adoration is "God and Man reaching out for each other, at the same time!" 5 Operations May 31 st, Year to Date Report You may have noticed that we changed the Sunday collection report on the back page of our bulletin from a weekly report to a Year to Date report. After five months of operating this year, we are running very close to zero in fact too close. Some of you may be saying, But we are a church, we re not supposed to have a surplus or generate profit being close to zero is a good thing. You are right in saying that as a church, we re not about profit instead, we are about more important things, like: building God s Kingdom; feeding the hungry at the Friendship Inn; engaging in missionary activity, like we are in Haiti; engaging our youth and growing our Holy Family the list goes on. We are doing these things and more, thanks to you! Our Concern in Running this Close to Zero after 5 Months Every summer, our regular Sunday collections drop off. This is normal in parish life. People go to the lake, visit friends and family elsewhere and take time to rejuvenate. What doesn t take time off in the summer are: the utility bills, salaries for our incredible staff, the costs of general maintenance and upkeep etc. If this summer is like previous summers, our donations will decrease (see Fig. 1). With a $49 surplus after five months of operating, we will most likely be in a deficit position by the end of summer. Other factors to consider are that the warranty on our beautiful new church has expired. The burden related to equipment repairs or replacements will fall squarely on our shoulders making a surplus for such inevitabilities desirable as well as the requirements of meeting the monthly mortgage which will begin on July 1 st, Please consider the following: What Can You Do? While donations through envelopes and loose decrease during the summer months, it is the donations through Pre-Authorized Giving (PAG) that remain constant. Simply by signing up for Pre-Authorized Giving, you will provide our parish community with a constant cash flow throughout the entire year that will allow us to meet all of our financial obligations. Pre-Authorized Giving forms can be picked up at our Concierge Desk on Sundays, at our Reception Desk during the week or on-line. Fig. 1
