TRINITY EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH 200 East Clements Bridge Road Runnemede, NJ Rev. Dr. G. Andrew Engelhart III Pastor Sunday Service Times: 8:30, 10 & 11:15 AM Office SEPTEMBER 2016 NEWSLETTER The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul. Psalm 23:1-3
Well, it has been a long, hot, summer. I hope that all of you have had some time to relax, "recharge your batteries" and enjoy the beauty of God's wonderful creation these past few months. As the month of August comes to an end and September begins we need to shift gears into our fall program of activities. First, Labor Day Weekend. Considered by most to be the last "blast" of summer (although summer does not officially end until September 22nd). On Sunday, September 4th we will once again combine all three services into one 10:00am unity service. You don't want to miss this event, since bringing all three services together makes the church look full and truly boosts our hymn singing into wonderfully loud musical praises to God. And don't forget the fellowship hour immediately following the service which includes coffee and donuts. Second, our Wednesday Bible Study will resume on September 14th, Holy Cross Day. We meet at 1:00pm and 7:30pm. We will be beginning a new study on the Book of Genesis - so we will be beginning at the beginning - literally! Think about joining us as we journey along with the Word of God. Third, 2016 is our 90th year in ministry. We have a few events planned for the fall. First, a celebratory dinner here in the fellowship hall on October 2nd. We are planning this as a catered event so that everyone can enjoy the food, fun and fellowship. More information and sign up opportunities will be released in September. On Sunday, November 27th we will have a Unity Service at 10:00am in honor of our 90th anniversary, followed by coffee and cake in the fellowship hall. There will also be a special dedication during this service. It was in November of 1927 that several Runnemede Lutherans had there first meeting concerning having a Lutheran church in Runnemede. Also, in November 1927, the cornerstone to the main church building was laid. Fourth, Florence Adler, who is our organist at the 8:30am and 11:15am services will have completed 65 years of service in October. For more than two thirds of our ninety years of ministry, she has faithfully served us. This is a most impressive fact. The Church Council would like to celebrate this wonderful achievement as part of our anniversary celebration. Florence and her family will be honored guests at our 90th anniversary dinner. Please, mark your calendars so that you will not miss this magnificent event. As we gear up for fall, let us pray that God will help and guide us as we continue to live out our motto, "To Know Christ, and To Make Him Known". Grace and Peace, Pastor Andy

Pre-K Sunday School We had a very productive summer this year. We had very good attendance. This summer we learned all about the Ten Commandments. We learned one commandment each week along with making a craft to remind us of each one. This took us ten weeks and we are now getting ready for Rally Day on September 11, All Rally Day shirts have been ordered for our Pre-K class. If you can, please take some time to look at our Pre-K bulletin board. We have pictures of the children holding their Ten Commandments. Also, we have a sample of each craft that the children made each week. I am sure you will enjoy seeing all of their hard work. Stop by after Labor Day, September 4, 2016 to see the bulletin board. It is located just through the door next to the altar on the Johnson Avenue side of the church. Enjoy!!! Pre- Teachers Mrs Dane Nagel, Mrs. Mary Raws, Miss Paula Gift Mrs. Dolly Gibelyou and Mrs. Carol Rowan
Junior Choir Trusting that all of you have had a terrific summer and that you are now ready to go back to school, Sunday School and Junior Choir! The first rehearsal for Junior Choir will be on September 11 at 9:45 a.m. in the choir room, as usual. Mr. Kraemer will once again be our accompanist! We are looking forward to seeing you. Perhaps you can talk about Junior Choir in your Sunday School classes so that some or ALL- of the children in your class will want to join us. The choir is designed for grades 1-6 and all are welcome! The first time we will be singing for this year is Sunday, October 16, which is the third Sunday of the month. Each month we will be singing on the third Sunday except for September and April (which is Easter). In October we will be singing I m Gonna Follow. We have done this before. We will be doing a few old songs so that we have more time to work on the new ones. You will remember that we sing twice in November (the second time is at the 8:30 Service on Thanksgiving morning.) Then we sing twice in December also with the second time being at the 6:00 p.m. Service on Christmas Eve. All Children in the Junior Choir are expected to sing at two Services: they may be 8:30 and 10:00 or 10:00 and 11:15. You will be at the church no later than 8:10 a.m. on that third Sunday in order to get on your robes and to rehearse our song for the day. Miss Taylor Veigel will be assisting you in putting on your robe. I m eagerly waiting for September 11 at 9:45 a.m. 10:00 so that you can then go right to your Sunday School classes. Should you have any questions, please feel free to call me at I do have an answering machine (Pastor Ed still gives the introduction) and will be happy to return your call. Mark your calendar! See YOU on September 11! Love to all, Mrs. Schmidt
Confirmation Class Paul writes in 1Corinthians 1:18, For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. God has chosen ordinary people like you and me to be his redeemed people and as the Holy Spirit works through God s Holy Word He continues to nurture the saving gift of faith in our hearts and gives us the power to bring the message of forgiveness, new life, and salvation to others. We are very excited about the group of boys and girls that will be in this year s Confirmation Class. We are hoping to have up to nine students in this class. Some of them have come out early to get a jump start. This year s Confirmation Class will be a combination of Seventh and Eighth Graders together. They will be working out of a book entitled Applying Luther s Catechism, a five unit program consisting of sixty lessons taught over two years. The eighth graders covered Unit 1 last year so everyone will be starting Unit 2 this year. Unit 1 covers the Ten Commandents, Unit 2 the Apostles Creed, Unit 3 the Lord s Prayer, Unit 4 Confession and the Sacraments, and Unit 5 Confirmation. Seventh Graders will cover Unit 1 next year. This sounds like a lot but the program is in a contemporize version that relates to students of today. First day of class will be on Rally Day, September 11 followed by a meeting after the 11:15 service with Pastor Andy, students, parents, and teachers. Mrs. Karen Cundiff will meet with students regarding the duties of acolyte and crucifer. We especially want to thank our eighth graders Caroline Krause and Eden Shinseki for performing these duties every Sunday last year. Please pray for these children. This is a very big step for them and we know the Devil is out there and is not on our side. With much prayer and support these young men and women will grow to be fine young Christian men and women who will be leaders of the church and community. Next newsletter we will introduce the students to you. I have had the privilege of working with some of them and they are so excited about their upcoming adventure. Thank you in God s Love, Jim Shisler
Sunday School News People were also bringing their babies to Jesus for him to place his hands on them. When the disciples saw this, they rebuked them. But Jesus called the children to him and said, Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. Luke 18:15-17 These children were brought before Jesus not for teaching or healing but for blessing. His arms are ever open to receive and bless children. He loves them for they reflect his own purity and gentleness. Children today should come to him because they need a Savior, teacher and friend with a special love. He desires that they should stay close, protecting them from becoming deep in sin. When we present our children for baptism we are asking Jesus to be a part of their life, to bless and watch over them. There is no greater purpose we can serve than to help lead them to Christ. We need to teach them to know and love him completely. We can be an example in the way we live our life. As they grow up and go out on their own we can be assured that he will love and watch over them. With confidence we know that his love, presence and guidance are better than our own. Rally Day will be held on Sunday, September 11 th in Fellowship Hall to celebrate the beginning of the new Sunday School year. Our theme is I Love Jesus - based on Luke 18:16. For the occasion we will be providing T-shirts to our children. These shirts are Carolina blue with I Love (red heart) Jesus and Let the little children come to me. Luke 18:16 on the front. There will be balloons and ice cream, and a fun craft. At end of our festivities students will be promoted to their new classes. For those congregational members who ordered a T-shirt you will be able pick it up on Rally Day. Our lessons for the fall semester will begin on September 18 th. Pre-K will meet upstairs as usual. Kindergarten through fourth grade will meet upstairs in the new wing. Fifth and sixth grades will meet downstairs in their classrooms near Fellowship Hall. The Confirmation class will meet in the 7 th & 8 th grade classroom adjacent to the kitchen. Our Outreach Ministries for this year will continue to be Cathedral Kitchen and UR Important 2US. Please, continue to give financial support to Cathedral Kitchen and bring in your $3.00 dime folders. Every third Sunday of the month please support UR Important 2 US by donating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bottles of water, packaged snacks and socks. Please help feed the homeless in the streets of Camden. September 18 TH will be our next UR Important 2 US, Sunday. Come join us on Saturday, September 17 th at 9:00 AM in the Fellowship Hall to make PB&J. The future of our children is of utmost importance. They need help and guidance to develop a strong faith. We are in need of new volunteers to teach and support our programs. We would like to start a new youth group. If you are interested in helping at any level please contact me. Blessings to all in the name our Lord Jesus! Carl Nagel dadx3d@comcast.net

PANTRY DAY 2016 As this article is being written, outfits of clothes, sneakers and filled back-packs are arriving at the church for the children of Pantry families. It is truly heartwarming to see what all of you have done for this annual time of preparation for the first day of school for these children. Many thanks to each of you who have participated! PANTRY DAY has become a great tradition here at Trinity when people are asked to give a monetary gift to the Pantry. This is the only time of the year when we ask specifically for money. This year it will be on October 9 th. Special PANTRY envelopes will appear in your church bulletin each of the first three weeks of October. When giving to the Pantry through envelopes, be sure to include your church envelope number on your check and on the envelope itself. This money will be used to purchase food and other necessary items to complete the items our people will need in the days ahead. Often it is necessary to purchase some non-perishable things which are regularly included in bags. Perishable items which need to be purchased within days of monthly visits by the people we serve are also gotten with this money. Won t you plan to include a monetary gift to the Pantry during this annual event? Mark your calendar to be present at one of the services on October 9 th to learn more about this opportunity to serve the community and the Lord in this place. Many thanks from the people we serve and those who work at the pantry! Pat Schmidt On Behalf of Social Concerns
Post deadline news THANK YOU FROM FLORIDA Just a note to say thank you again for all the fabric and elastic Trinity s congregation donatedd to the Destiny and Grace Sewing Ministry. I met with the ladies when we returned from New Jersey and they were thrilled to see the enormous amount of material. Enough to fill two huge plastic bins. Because of your generous donations we will be able to make between 200 and 300 dresses. Below is a message from Emely Pagan, the director of our group. Pictures are also included. Thanks and God bless you, Joanne As we welcome the summer, we always welcome a day's worth of work in sewing dresses for little girls around the world, near and far. We received a "thank you letter from Haiti and Peru, thanking us for the dresses donated to the girls. Some little girls wanted the dresses longer so they can feel as thoughh they are wearing a gown. These girls don't have the luxury we have here, however, and something as small as a donated dress makes them so happy and content. Praise God for women who have the passion of missions, for allowing their hands to be used as missionaries showing thesee little girls that they are special and their DESTINY is in God's hands. It's by the grace of God we are able to blesss each one of them. Like I always say, "God is good all the time and all the time, God is good". Emely Pagán Destiny & Grace International ANA CHRISTINA ZENTNER graduated from Chatham Hall in Chatham Virginia. She will be attending the University of Kentucky in the Pre Vet program, large animal specialty. Trinity was notified by the family of formerr member BARBARA DUNDA of her passing. Barbaraa passed away on May 13, 2016 at the age of 74. Our deepest sympathyy is extended to her family and friends. Belated Birthday wishes to MATTHEW FRANCIS BROOMALL who celebrated his birthday on August 26 th. His name was accidently omitted from the August birthday list.
It will soon be time to say good-bye to summer. We, therefore, take this opportunity to invite everyone to come visit our Prayer Shawl Ministry which will begin on Friday, September 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Church lower level, Fellowship Hall. Come see some of the beautiful projects our members have crafted over the summer. Our meetings are generally held on the first Friday of the month at 10:00 a.m. However since we do not want to intrude on the Labor Day holiday, we moved the September meeting. The remainder of our meetings will be as follows: October 7, November 4, and December 2. Our 2017 schedule is: January 6, February 3, March 3, April 7, May 5, and June 2. Experience is not a pre-requisite for membership you just need a sense of humor and a desire to help others. See you soon. 13 Over the last few months, I have been contemplating a life-changingg decision. One that would possibly take me away from Trinity, and the state of NJ altogether. It is due to circumstances beyond my control that I was even thinking about this. Over the 4th of July weekend, I finally made the painful decision to leave New Jersey and move back to Pennsylvania to be with my family. Yes, it was a very hard decision, but it is the right one for me and my family. And in the time since I made that decision, He has been showing me that it is the right one by letting the pieces of the puzzle fall into place, one by one. My last day at Trinity will be Sunday, September 25th. I am going to miss so many of you, as I have been involved in so many aspects of the church over the years. The one thing I will miss the most is teaching Sunday School. I have really enjoyed watching the children grow in their faith and be confirmed at Trinity. They are some amazing kids who have taught me a lot over the years. From the first time I walked throughh the doors of Trinity Lutheran Church, I have been welcomed into your family. For everything the Trinity family has done for me over the years, I thank you. Sincerely, Sherry Stroup Just wanted to thank my family at Trinity for all the help, cards, and so many other things that you have done to help me get back on my feet after my operation. Please forgive me for not mentioning names but I don t want to leavee anyone out. My neck brace is off and am starting physical therapy. Trinity is truly a loving family. I could have never gone through it without your help and the love and mercy of our loving Savior. Thank you, In Christ s love, Jim Shisler WEDDING On July 22, 2016 Stephaniee Rose Kraemer to Stephen Gardner Patton
