2 Recently I was trimming my moustache when all of a sudden I heard a cracking sound! The plastic handle disintegrated and fell away from one of the blades of my moustache scissors. I was a little sad about this. Not because they were expensive, they weren't. Not because they were the best moustache scissors ever made, they weren't. They meant something to me because Amy had given them to me as a Christmas present almost 35 years ago when we were dating. Every trip that I have been on since then, those scissors have traveled with me in my toiletry bag. Having them with me for three and a half decades had lulled me into thinking they would be around forever, but time had made the plastic handle brittle and fragile waiting for the right amount of stress to finally give into its own destruction. The continual end of the things we own as they wear out and become useless reminds us of the fact that things are always changing and this is even more evident when something we have owned and used has had some longevity like my moustache scissors. Last summer the attendance on July 4th weekend and Labor Day (this year Sunday July 5th and September 6th respectively) were very disappointing. After months of discussion and consideration, the Church Council has decided to try holding just one service at 10:00am on these days. Several years ago, we did the same thing with the Sunday before and after Christmas and it has been well received. Many people have agreed that on such occasions they would rather have one well attended service then three poorly attended services. It is also an excellent opportunity to see fellow members that we don't normally worship with because they go to different services. It also helps to foster a sense of unity among the congregation. I have learned recently that many congregations that have multiple services do this at various times of the year to help promote unity among the members and they refer to it as a "Unity Service." Also, the council approved to hold one Contemporary Service this year at the 10:00 time slot on Sunday, October 11th. This is not an attempt at replacing the 10:00 service with the newer more contemporary version that is used at 11:15 on the second Sunday of the month, but just an opportunity to expose a larger portion of the congregation to this new style of worship and music. Actually the worship is based upon the current 10:00 service with a few additions; it is the style of music that is the main difference in this service. We hope that our 10:00 worshipers will appreciate this change of pace for one Sunday. As we enter into the summer months, I remind you that we will take a hiatus from our Second Sunday of the month contemporary worship service at 11:15. This service will return on Sunday, September 13. For those who will be traveling over the summer and those vacationing I wish you safe passage and trust that God will continue to bless and keep you in His favor. Have a safe, happy and restful summer. Grace and Peace, Pastor Andy

4 Sunday School News Jesus replied, "The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God's children, since they are children of the resurrection. But in the account of the burning bush, even Moses showed that the dead rise, for he calls the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to him all are alive. Luke 20:34-38 (NIV) There is only one GOD. Our God is a living God. He is the creator of all life. Life belongs to him, and he alone sustains it. In these verses Jesus was speaking to the Sadducees, he referred to God as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. What Jesus was alluding to is that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are alive and in the presence of God, living eternally. On what basis do we have hope for the future? Our hope is built on the inerrant Word of God, on the promise of Jesus Christ. Our Lord tells us that there is a future for the sons of men. Our life will be one of perfect purity, without end. It will be a life of highest honor and elevation. The inheritance of eternal life is not unconditional, however. The condition is that we must have a personal and living relationship with God Himself. Those who can truly claim Him as "their God" may confidently look forward to an eternal home in his presence and in his service. To those whom he has revealed himself in his Son, this means a living union with Jesus Christ our Savior - to know him, to live for him, to abide in him. Our Mother s Day program was presented at the 10:00 am service. Each Mom and Grand Mom received a carnation. Our children sang songs: Mommy Loves Me This I Know by Pre-K thru 3 RD grades, and Thank God For My Christian Home by 4 th thru 8 Th grades. Our Plant Sale was held on Saturday, May 2 nd which was held over to Sunday. Each child in Sunday School was given the opportunity to pick out a small plant for their Moms without cost. On Mother s Day plants were again made available for a free will donation. Thanks to Bob Zenter with all his help and generosity, our sale was very successful in raising money for our programs. Next month is Father s Day on June 21 st. Fathers will have the opportunity to spend time with their sons and daughters having fun playing games and learning about Jesus. Plans for Vacation Bible School and Gloucester Township Day are progressing nicely. If you are interested in helping or supporting VBS or GTD please contact Jennifer Smith. Please continue to give financial support to our outreach, Cathedral Kitchen, and bring in your $3.00 dime folders. UR Important 2 US is another outreach, helping to feed the homeless in the streets of Camden. Donations of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, bottles of water, packaged snacks, and warm pairs of socks are needed. Every third Sunday of the month, bring in your donations. If you wish, come to the Fellowship Hall the day before at 10:00 am and help make PB&J. Supplies for them will be provided by Social Concerns. I give my thanks to all those who are assisting with our outreach. Complimentary Copies of Raising Your Child In Faith From Preschoolers To Teens; A Parent s Handbook are still available in the narthex and on the Sunday school bulletin board in the kitchen area. Faith Guides About Faith And Your Child and About Christian Parenting were given out to parents at close of the Sunday School hour. Blessings to All, In the Name of Jesus, Carl Nagel dadx3d@comcast.net

5 JUNIOR CHOIR Sunday, May 17, was the last time the Junior Choir sang for the season! How the time flies! We sang Tell Everyone You Meet, a song from Vacation Bible School a number of years ago. Several mentioned it would be nice to have the words. TELL EVERYONE YOU MEET Walking down the street, tell everyone you meet that God is love! Yell it from the housetop; tell it at the bus stop: God is Love! Share it with a friend, or write a note to send; say that God is love! Shout it from your bike, talk about it when you hike, that God is Love! Tell it at the store, or at the neighbor s door that God is love! If you re playing ball, or shopping at the mall, say God is love! When you start to sing, make every chorus ring with my God is love! Find your joy! Tell every girl and boy that God is Love! SHOUT: GOD IS LOVE! Whether we have two to sing or four to sing or everyone in the choir to sing the enthusiasm of the children is heard and appreciated. The message they have in their song inspires the congregation and as these girls and boys grow older and are in some tough situations, these words will come back to them to assure them of God s love and care for them. A choir year doesn t just happen. A team of people come together to bring about their message of the love of Jesus. Many thanks to Emilee Schipske for so faithfully coming to help the children get their robes on and to hang them up again when they are finished. (Even her Mom and Grandmom have pitch hitted for her on an occasion! So thank you to each of you, as well.) The accompaniment of the choir has been shared this year between Susan Dilks and Bob Kraemer. Bob s daughter is graduating from the Naval Academy this year so he will be able to be here more often in the future. To the parents of the children, a great deal of thanks. You see that the children are at rehearsal each week and go over their words at home. Your time and effort is appreciated by the entire congregation. And, last, but certainly not least, thank you to each of the children for your work in memorizing the words each month and singing to the honor and glory of our Lord and Saviour. You make me proud of you each time! Blessings to each of you for the summer vacation. Rehearsals will resume September 13 and we will be singing for the first time on October 18 for the season. Love to all, Mrs. Schmidt

6 SOCIAL CONCERNS We hope that everyone enjoyed our Donut Sunday on May 12 th. It was our pleasure to serve coffee and donuts to the congregation. Look for our fall breakfast event in October. Our pantry is as busy as ever. We see about 50 families each month and help them with everything from canned food to paper products. If you are unable to bring in your food items, donations are always appreciated. Our shopping bill is about $750 - $1,000 per month. This is a list of some of the items we could use for our next pantry day: Soup Canned Fruit Pancake Mix Syrup Cereal Crackers Spaghetti Sauce Tuna Cookies Soup Jelly Peanut Butter Canned Meats Pasta Mayo Paper Towels Toilet Paper Our Clothing closet continues to provide much needed clothing to our pantry families. The closet is also open to all members of the congregation. We have lots of gently used clothing as well new items with the tags still on. Please remember to keep the bags light. Thank you to everyone who brought bags in last month. As we move into our summer months our focus shifts a bit. We will be putting up our School Bus in July so that we can provide our Pantry children with new clothing, shoes and a Back-pack to start School in September. We will also continue to have Pantry and Clothing closet days as well. New members are always welcome. We meet on the third Sunday of the month following the 11:15 service. Please come out and join us. Remember God loves a cheerful giver. In everything I showed you that by working hard in this manner you must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He Himself said, It is more blessed to give than to receive. Acts 20:35 Caring and Sharing Cheryl Morris
