Trinity Lutheran Church June Newletter, 2012 June Day CELEBRATION! Lutheran Care at Morrestown SATURDAY, JUNE 9, :00 AM TO 3:00 PM 255 East Main Street Well, kiddo, it s you and me! T.J., a boy with developmental delays, is featured in Chicken Soup for the Soul: Children With Special Needs. T.J. and his father, who d long yearned for a son, settled into a routine of daily outings. Stacey, one of T.J. s sisters, was moved when she realized how much their father loved that together time. One day, as their dad made T.J. laugh, T.J. stopped and reached up to softly touch our father s face, Stacey writes. My dad looked down at him and said... Well, kiddo, it looks like it s you and me for the rest of my life. There wasn t a sense of sadness or burden in my father s voice, only acceptance and unconditional love. Our Father God says the same to each of us: Well, kiddo, it s you and me forever! No matter our weaknesses, our differences or even our tendencies to avoid time with him, God speaks with com plete acceptance and love. He loves being with us just as we are and rejoices to be our Father forever. THE UMBRELLA OF MARRIAGE Lighting a unity candle, a common wedding ritual, symbolizes the bride and groom becoming one. The I, me, mine of each individual doesn t disappear entirely, but the two are drawn under the um brella of we, us, ours. When troubles inevitably come, the partners can take shelter together. Many years into marriage, a wife underwent medical tests for troubling symptoms. Her husband accompanied her to the follow-up consultation. Later, when a friend asked how the appointment went, the husband replied, We have multiple sclerosis. There was no slow, careful word-choosing. After years under the umbrella of marriage, the man s pronoun selection was automatic: We have multiple sclerosis. His wife smiled, even as a tear fell. She would be neither under the umbrella alone nor left out in the rain. They would weather this storm together. Heidi Mann The Winner A father of five won a toy in a raffle. He gathered his young children to ask who should get the present. W ho s the most obedient? Dad asked. Who never talks back to Mom? W ho does everything she says? Five small voices answered in unison, Okay, Dad, you get the toy.
His name is the stuff of history, scripture and legend. He was willing to split a baby in half with a sword to settle a legal dispute. His splendor and glory was so great that it is referred to by people today and was mentioned by Jesus. His wisdom has never been matched. He is King Solomon. Our weekly Bible Study has spent the past year studying the life of King David as written in the books of 1 & 2 Samuel. As we have concluded this study, however, David is still alive and kicking. As such, we have decided to continue the story of David and what occurs after his death by studying the books of 1 & 2 Kings. In this study we will witness the death of King David as well as the series of events that places Solomon on the throne. During this study we will learn what made Solomon a great king as well as the sins that brought him down. In preparation for this study we will have an overview of the life and times of King Solomon at our summer Bible study on Thursday, July 26th at 8:00pm. Come and join us as we begin this new study. See the transfer of power from David to Solomon. Experience the great wisdom of Solomon as well as his great folly. Endure the split of the kingdom into Israel in the north and Judah in the south. Witness the building of the first Temple. See the kingdom fall to Babylon in 587BCE and experience the events that lead to the release of those held captive in Babylon to return and rebuild the nation. During this study we will complete two more books of the Bible and cover about 400 years of history. Come and join us on this great adventure. Expand you minds, your knowledge of scripture, and your understanding of the Word of God. Grace and Peace, Pastor Andy

Social Concerns Ministry On May 19 th we sponsored the Seniors breakfast and 85 people joined us. There was a lot of good food prepared by our "chefs". We had eggs, pancakes, creamed chipped beef, toast, fruit and danish. A BIG THANK YOU to all who came out and helped prepare and serve the breakfast. It was a really nice time sharing food and fellowship. On our May pantry we helped 36 families with food and clothes from the pantry and "Clothes Closet". Items needed are: Peanut butter, jelly, spaghetti & sauce, tuna, kids cereal, mac & cheese, toilet paper & paper towels. Any donation is greatly appreciated. Social Concerns wants to express our gratitude for the generous help of our congreation over the years that have supported the pantry. Without your assistance, we would have been unable to help those in our community who are in need. Thank you. If you think you might like to join us, please see any member of the group. We would love to have new people with great ideas. Our next pantry is June 28 th from 9-11 am and 6-7 pm. Here is something I came across while reading "Angels on Call" by Dr. Robert Lesslie. It is a very thought provoking book. "But I knew there was a larger, more important question here. Who are we on call for? Who do we go out of our way to help and to serve? Who do we stand beside, no matter what?" Caring & Sharing Sharon Fetters
Social Concerns Flea Market UPDATE Saturday, May 12 th turned out to be a wonderfully bright and sunny spring day. We had 23 sellers participate; served breakfast, lunch, snack foods and beverages. The Flea Market was a huge success as a fund raiser and fellowship event. A good turnout of help work the event and a wonderful congregation and community response made all the work well worth it. The Clothing Closet offered clothing and assorted toys and house hold goods for a free will donation. That resulted in $ and an awareness that the Clothes Closet is available for the congregation as well as the community. Comments were very positive about how clean and well organized the Closet is; that s thanks to Floss Robinson and her C. C. Crew. The Sunshine Ministry put together a Bake Sale of donated homemade goodies which yielded a profit of $ By the slice or whole, everything looked oh so good. Rentals of spaces in the parking lot, sales of the donated items to the Social Concerns tables, and profit from food sales (thanks to our cooks Ted Cubler and Bob Sheairs) resulted in combined profits of $ Amazing total when you consider most items sold for 25, 50, 75 cents or $l.00. Adding all of those amounts together (less expenses) the bottom line, drum roll please, we made a combined profit of $ to put towards the repairs of the porch at 17 Knight Avenue (blue house). As most of the sellers and Social Concerns had no storage for the unsold goods, we filled (yes, filled) a box van and delivered it all to the Good Will in Stratford. They were most appreciative of the donated items. The following is a list of people who helped in some way to make the Flea Market 2012 a rousing success: Dana Kemery, Ruthann Quintavalle, Diane & Chris Kochan, Ann Carter,Sherry Stroup, Cindy Spino, Cheryl & Alan Morris, Dottie Glaze & granddaughters Destiny and Lexie Glaze, Ken, Robin, Mark and David Hickey, Mike and Sue Hobgen, Paul Ranck, Bob Kraemer, Jennifer Morris, Russell Heath, Karen Bal, Kathy Cubler, Sam Spino, Bobby and Mari Sheairs, Floss Robinson, Dolly Gibelyou, Aldo and Felica D Aversa, Jim Eberts, Alicia Darcy, Maddy and Morgan Raws, Ashley and Jessica Hogben. If I ve missed someone, please forgive me. A special, very special, THANK U to Pat Henry! The energizer bunny who was there to help and encourage this event along. Bless you Pat! As you can imagine lots of planning and helping hands went into making the Flea Market the successful fund raiser it was, both this year and last. We would encourage you to prayerfully consider becoming an active part of the ministries here at Trinity Ev. Lutheran. Hopefully, the next UPDATE on the porch will be a construction time table. Again, a sincere thank you to all who participated by helping, donating, and/or attending the Trinity Ev. Lutheran 2012 Flea Market. For Social Concerns Ministry, Carol Sheairs
Sunday School News Every matter that concerns us can become a reminder to pray. Do you pray each day? Are you aware that prayer is the key to heaven, but faith unlocks the door? We must all make certain that our children learn the importance of prayer, not only for themselves, but for others. Our finances in Sunday school have grown with the help of our hoagie sale and the plant sale which was held on May 5 th and 6 th. Many thanks to all who purchased them, and we hope you enjoyed eating a hoagie and planting your plants. On Sunday, June 17 th, the Sunday school classes will report to the Fellowship Hall to begin our Summer Bible Study Program. Teachers will take turns in presenting a Bible lesson, followed by a craft project. This is a fun time for grades Kindergarten through 8 th grade to be together. The program will end on Sunday, September 2 nd. Vacation Bible School will begin on Monday, July 30 th through Friday, August 3 rd from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Mark your calendar for a fun time at the Son Surf Beach Blast. Rally Day will be held on Sunday, September 9 th and Promotion Sunday will be held on Sunday, September 16 th. Thanks to our dedicated teaching staff who are there every Sunday of the year teaching the students about the love of Jesus. The next staff meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 11 th at 7:00 p.m. Remember: Take time to express your love for God and others today. To God be the glory, Pat Henry
Junior Choir Notes May has been a busy month for many of us and for members of the Junior Choir. May 20 th was the last time we sing until fall. The year seemed to zip by more quickly than usual. Several of us enjoyed having ice cream at Anthony s the same Saturday as the church yard sale. So some people took time to look around before or after ice cream and even found some real neat things. As the year comes to an end, I want to particularly thank both Emilee Schipske and Kenna Brockway for their time helping the children get their robes and hang them up again each time we sing. Congratulations to both of them for being a part of this year s confirmation class! Both girls have agreed to keep doing this next season, as well. Each year it has been our pleasure to have Mr. Kraemer accompany us. His creative ideas to supplement our singing are terrific and sincerely appreciated. Some other people who have helped us out from time to time include Mrs. Barbara Ciaffo, Ms. Dorothy Martin and even acting as personal chauffeur: Mrs. Barbara Anconetani. No organization runs smoothly with only one person. Each one who has lent a helping hand is greatly appreciated. Last, but not least, a big thank you to Mrs. Pat Henry for subing for me occasionally throughout the year when I had to accompany Pastor Ed. As we look forward to a wonderful summer of change of pace activities, let s remember that Vacation Bible School is July 30 th - August 3 rd in the evenings. Check other parts of the newsletter for complete details. Enjoy much peace and joy as you travel or are staying home. Sunday School continues for the summer months. Love and blessings to all, Mrs. Schmidt
Youth Group Ministries May was a rather quiet month for our Youth. Some of them helped with the Flea Market on Saturday, May 12th. Then on Sunday, May 20th, some of the youth, along with Jim Eberts, went to Florence Adler's house to help plant her plants she purchased. A big Thank You to those who helped that day. The end of the year event is fast approaching. We still have several tickets left for the Faith & Family night at the Camden Riversharks on Saturday, June 30th. If you would still like to purchase tickets, see Jim Eberts. Tickets are only $9 and anyone can purchase them. Come join us for a night of fun and fellowship. The next Contemporary Worship Service is Saturday, June 23rd at 6 pm. Please join us for a night of fellowship. For the upcoming year, we are planning some fund raising events. Keep an eye out for more information about these events. In His Name, Sherry Stroup Youth Minitries Advisor Many thanks to Jim Eberts and youth group members Tiffany, Melissa, Sean, Kyle and Tyler for all your help on Sunday, May 20th. It was really appreciated! Florence and Bob Adler

Prayer Shawl News Read: Proverbs 31:10-11 Lord, thank You for the influence our mothers and wives have had on us. We too want to touch the lives of others, to point them to You. W e know we need Your Spirit's power to do that. Fill us and use us, we pray." "Good m others not only tell us how to live -- they show us." from Our Daily Bread for May. Our last meeting of the year will be held on Friday, June 1, Our plans include ending our year with lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. What a way to go into summer! Our May meeting opened with everyone saying the Lord's Prayer. The meeting was attended by Barbara Anconetani, Beverly Bethany, Mary Blasko, Dolores Keller, Jean Krips, Carolyn Lunn, Sally Miller and Mary Raws. We received 3 baptismal blankets and 3 prayer shawls or lap robes. Our very welcome visitor, Pastor Andy visited with us for some fun and updating. Vice President Sally Miller led a lively discussion regarding items we are thinking of making for next year. They would be in addition to our prayer shawl items. All present were in favor of our proposed project. We'll let you know what it is at a later date. Corresponding Secretary Barbara Anconetani read the following thank you notes we received. "Thank you so much for the beautiful shawl. I had never heard of a Prayer Shawl before and I will tell you that it provided a ton of warmth and comfort from God through your talent and generosity. Thank you again. Karen Bond(she is Bev Bethany's neighbor who recently had a mastectom y.) "Dear Val, I am very grateful to you and the members of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church's Prayer Shawl Ministry for the beautiful prayer shawl you crocheted. Val, you know how much I cherish handmade items. Each time I wrap the shawl around my shoulders I will think of the kindness you have shown me. It will also rem ind me of all the good times I shared with my daughter, Jennifer. I thank you for your kindness and continued prayers. Sincerely, Peggy Floro (she is a neighbor of Val Colasuonno's. Her young daughter age 30ish died.) Baptismal Historian Mary Raws reported a baptism in May and 4 in June. W e have white blankets ready for them. Once again, we thank our church secretary, Joanne for all her help with our needs. We could not function without her. W e are blessed to have her assistance. Sally Miller read us a blessing and our meeting adjourned. "Until We Meet Again, May God Hold You in the Palm of His Hand." The Prayer Shawl Ministry Fam ily Carolyn Lunn President
Noah Trip Many favorable comments have been received concerning our trip to see "Jonah" at the Sight and Sound Millenium Theatre on April 15, The show was wonderfully presented. How can one really describe the staging which made everything seem so lifelike. The whale swimming around and Jonah in the whale were amazingly done. Of course, we all had our tummies filled at the Shady Maple Smorgasbord Buffet. The buffet is known for its numerous delicious selections. The food is great! The building is fairly new and the accommodations and service are to be enjoyed. Due to the popularity of the show "Jonah", it was more crowded than usual. We still enjoyed what we had. There is a large gift shop downstairs to spend some extra time and $$ and many chose to do that. All in all, we had a long but great day of fun and fellowship. We sold 57 tickets (full bus) with 56 people attending the show. W e were to give Trinity $5 per person for each person from Trinity who called to go with us. Since so many senior members are also Trinity members (14 Trinity members called for tickets and 12 are senior members who signed up = 26), we are splitting the profit from the trip. Trinity received a check for $ and the Runnemede Sr. Citizens Club received a check for the sam e amount. Total profit was $ $ 95 cost per ticket x 57 tickets sold $ to Safety Bus & Show $ 375 profit We thank you for your support. Your presence made for a delightful day. You are appreciated and loved. God Bless You All! We look forward to possibly sharing another trip with you in the future. Carolyn Lunn Trips & Tours Chairman Runnemede Sr. Citizens Club
