1 Holy Family Parish PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Led by the spirit and example of the Holy Family, our parish community embraces as its mission the salvation of all people. Rooted in the celebration of the Eucharist, we go forth to serve, to educate, and to live daily the message of Jesus Christ.

Communion Calls Please contact the parish office to make arrangements. Sacrament of Baptism Arrangements for Baptisms are made by calling the parish office. Participation at the Baptismal Preparation Class for parents is a requirement for the celebration of the sacrament. Sacrament of Marriage Arrangements for all weddings must be made at least six (6)months in advance. Please call the parish office. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Classes for those interested in joining the Catholic faith begin in the fall of each year and continue through the Easter season. 3 DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: Our Parish Mission begins this Sunday, September 30th! We are privileged to have Sr. Bridget Haase, OSU, here to direct us. She is the blood sister of Fr. Albert Haase, OFM, who was at Holy Family several times to lead Parish Missions. He & his sister were on Relevant Radio, via WDCR, hosting a show each week. Both are authors & leaders of retreats, too. And they hail from New Orleans. Sr. Bridget chose the topic for our Mission, which is: Walking the Path of Faith: the POWER, PROVIDENCE, & PRESENCE of God in our Life. What a timely topic! We need to focus on our faith during these turbulent times in the Catholic Church. We need to be reminded of God s Power to overcome all obstacles. We need to know of the Providence of God the Father. We need to feel ever more deeply the Presence of our Lord in our daily lives. She will have several of her books available for purchase which will enable us to grow in our spiritual lives. I am currently reading one of them, Generous Faith, & it is outstanding. So many touching stories from Sister s life & her experiences. Please come to hear Sister & be moved by the Holy Spirit speaking through her. The first evening is Sunday, September 30th at 6:30 p.m. The second evening is Tuesday, October 2nd at 6:30 p.m., with the final evening on Wednesday, October 3rd at 6:30 p.m. Each evening there will be a reception in our Parish Center after the presentation. Thanks to the Ladies Group for their help with the receptions. Sr. Bridget is an Ursuline Sister. Her order was founded by St. Angela Merici. In Alton, where I grew up, the Ursulines had their Motherhouse on Danforth Street. I was taught by Ursulines in grade school & high school. I didn t know any other Order of Religious Sisters existed. The Sisters were good & faith-filled women who formed us in the Catholic faith & were excellent examples of how to live out our call as followers of Jesus. And Decatur has had Ursulines teach & be present in the community for many decades. How blessed our parishes & community have been because these religious women have graced our lives. May the Lord bless their Order with more vocations, & may He give the sisters good health & safety in continuing the mission of St. Angela. This Thursday we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis Assisi, one of the great saints in our Church s history. He had such a love for poverty, prayer, creation, simplicity, people, & God. Religious Orders, churches, hospitals, & many other organizations bear his name. And, to honor him here, we will once again have the Blessing of Pets. We will have it at 2:45 p.m. on October 4th, directly after Mass (which will be held at 1:45 that day). You are invited to bring any pets to the grassy area by the school sign for a blessing. Please continue to pray for the Catholic Church as it struggles with the abuse crisis. May we all join together in asking the Lord for His mercy & compassion. May our commitment to the Church not waiver, but grow even stronger, during this time when the Church needs us the most. And may we come together in prayer as our Bishop has asked us on Oct. 1st. I hope to see you there. Our Bishop has asked us to unite in prayer & support. Please don t miss this opportunity to do so. Liturgical service for Repentance and Prayer for those Harmed in the Church will be held on Oct. 1st at 7:00 p.m. at Holy Family Church in Decatur. (This will coincide with the same service being held at the Cathedral in Spfld. & in each Deanery simultaneously.) 4 ANNUAL CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL Remember the Deacons we have had over here at Holy Family summers ago? They are now all priests. You helped them on their journey. How? By your prayers, first & foremost. ALSO, by your generous contributions to the ACSA. One of the ways our ACSA monies are put to use is by supporting the education of those men in our seminaries on the journey to priesthood. SO---Fr. Marty Smith, Fr. Braden Maher, Fr. Michael Friedel, & Fr. Rob Johnson thank you. Help us exceed our assessed ACSA goal of $67,989 with your donation today! ANNUAL LIFE CHAIN will be Sun., Oct. 7th, from 2:30-3:30 P.M. You may pick up Pro-Life signs at 2:00 in St. Patrick Church basement. All pro-life people are being asked to take a place along Franklin St. or Eldorado St., to stand for 1 hour with signs that show your position against abortion and supporting women and children. Last year several hundred people stood together in the Life Chain in Decatur while others stood in Life Chains in over a thousand cities. For more info., call INVITE SOMEONE BACK TO MASS!!! Albert Haase, OFM, who has led two Parish Missions for us. The title of the Mission will be Walking the Path of Faith: the Power, Providence, & Presence of God in our Life. It should be 3 wonderful evenings together as a parish with Sister. I pray that all of us at HOLY FAMILY will become HOLIER FAMILIES in our own homes & in our parish home because of this Mission. HEARING AIDS are available for use during Mass. See Fr. Joe for details. Lord of Creation & Salvation, we need you now more than ever. We, the Church, are hurting. Increase our faith in Your presence in the Church at this time. Heal our hearts; encourage us in our faith; deepen our commitment to You; enliven us with a renewed love for all that is good & holy. I would like to thank our core team, and the children who were able to make it. It's not too late to join us! Youth Group is for grades 6th-12th. Our next meeting will be Oct. 7th from 12pm-2pm. Following that our youth will join the Life Chain event at 2:30pm at St. Pat's. Please join us and show your support for our Youth Group and your support for "Respect Life" and the unborn. Our Holy Family group made over 100 blankets during the summer. These blankets are given to hospitals and agencies who give them to seriously ill and traumatized children to provide security through blankets.
