1 Holy Family Parish PARISH MISSION STATEMENT Led by the spirit and example of the Holy Family, our parish community embraces as its mission the salvation of all people. Rooted in the celebration of the Eucharist, we go forth to serve, to educate, and to live daily the message of Jesus Christ.

Communion Calls Please contact the parish office to make arrangements. Sacrament of Baptism Arrangements for Baptisms are made by calling the parish office. Participation at the Baptismal Preparation Class for parents is a requirement for the celebration of the sacrament. Sacrament of Marriage Arrangements for all weddings must be made at least six (6)months in advance. Please call the parish office. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) Classes for those interested in joining the Catholic faith begin in the fall of each year and continue through the Easter season. 3 DEAR HOLY FAMILY PARISHIONERS: Last Wednesday evening our Parish School of Religion Program (PSR) began with an Opening Mass with our catechists, students, & parents. What a wonderful way to start our Wednesday evenings together than by celebrating the Eucharist. The greatest prayer of the Church is the Mass---may it inspire our young people to grow in their faith each day. Our PSR Program is for all grade school youth in our parish who attend public schools. It is the opportunity for these students to be taught & experience their Catholic faith in a classroom setting. We are very blessed to have these sessions on Wednesday evenings from 6:15-7:15 p.m. Even though it is only an hour per week, our young people are enriched with the traditions, prayers, & practices of our Roman Catholic Church. Our coordinator for our Program is Patrice Hunt. We are so fortunate to have her here. She has such energy, enthusiasm, & her faith is very evident. I appreciate all she does for our students & teachers. We are also blessed to have the following women as catechists each Wednesday evening---sr. Mary Jerome, O.P., Rita Hogan, Diane Keller, Erin Hargrove, Brenda Duncan, Sandy Murray, & Teresa Steil. All of our students are in very good hands, as these adults share their faith each week & inspire our youth to grow in their faith. Please pray for our PSR Program & all who are part of it. May the Lord bless those who attend each Wednesday evening, as well as their parents who see that they are in class each week. YOUR PASTOR, FATHER JOE P.S. #1 This Tuesday is the 17th Anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on our soil. From that day forward the life of every American was forever changed. Let us never forget or become complacent. Let us pray for all those who lost their lives that day & all those injured & affected in any way. Let us commit ourselves to be people of peace & tolerance. May we never forget! P.S. #2 Continue to pray for our Catholic Church, especially in America. May we not leave the Church over the recent scandal of abuse, but commit ourselves evermore to following Christ & to helping build up the Church through our prayer, service, & witness to our faith. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Let us go to the Lord in prayer & ask His mercy to be upon our Church & all Catholics. Let us pray for all victims to be healed & to know that a just solution will occur. Let us do all we can to be there for one another in support & encouragement. It is at a time like this that we, the Church, can reach out in compassion & love to each other, reassuring each other that the Lord will guide us through this crisis & be there for us. P.S. #3 This Sunday, September 9th, is Grandparents Day. What a special time to thank all our grandparents who have given so much of themselves for their children, grandchildren, families, & country. We are grateful for their witness to love & compassion & care. Take a moment to pray for all of them, asking God to bless them with deep faith, good health, & lasting joy.

4 PLEASE MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW for our Parish Mission--Sept. 30, Oct. 2 & 3! That will be Sunday, Tuesday & Wednesday. (NOTE: NO PARISH MISSION EVENING ON MON- DAY, SEPT. 1ST!) Each night will begin at 6:30 p.m. Our director will be Sr. Bridget Haase, OSU, an Ursuline Sister & sister of Fr. Albert Haase, OFM, who has led two Parish Missions for us. The title of the Mission will be Walking the Path of Faith: the Power, Providence, & Presence of God in our Life. It should be 3 wonderful evenings together as a parish with Sister. I pray that all of us at HOLY FAMILY will become HOLIER FAMILIES in our own homes & in our parish home because of this Mission. ADULT FAITH FORMATION BEGINS SEPT. 12 TH! Epic: A Journey through Church History will begin this week at the following days and times: Wed. SECURITY: To ensure proper security at all weekend Masses at Holy Family, there will be a designated person in our vestibule during those Masses who will oversee security & help watch for any potential concerns. These people are properly trained law enforcement personnel, either presently or in the past. We re grateful to them for their willingness to serve us in this capacity. FYI: The hospitals here should ask you your religious affiliation & whether you would like to be visited. Remember: If you have been in the hospital for 2 days & have not had a visit from Fr. Joe or Sr. Janet, we do not know you are in. Please call the rectory & let us know you are a patient. Thank you! CONTEMPORARY GROUP will sing on Sun., Sept. 16, 10:00 a.m. Mass. SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION: Please be careful when driving in the parking lot during school days. UPDATING OF MILITARY BOARD: Those parishioners who have names on our military board in the church vestibule, please see if your loved one s name needs to be updated, deleted, or changed, or if a new name is to be added. Call Erica Cheatham RESURRECTION PARISH OF ILLIOPOLIS will be hosting a fried chicken dinner & raffle on Sun., Sept. 9th, on the parish grounds at 5th & Anne Streets. Dinner will be served from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost for the dinner will be $5 for children 10 and under, and $10 for adults. CAPS FOR CANCER: There is a drop off box in the vestibule for finished caps. Please put the cap in a plastic bag before placing in the box. PLEASE PRAY for those in our Sister Parish in El Salvador, as they pray for us. The yellow candle in our Vigil Candle area is lit as a reminder for us to pray for them.
