Trinity Trumpet November 2018 Thanksgiving and Praise Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! (Psalm 118:1) Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! (Psalm 100:4) Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (I Thessalonians 5:16) Over and over again, the Bible instructs us to give thanks. On November 22 nd, our government gives us an opportunity to do that with a na)onal day of Thanksgiving. Certainly this is not the only day of the year we are to remember where our blessings come from and to give God our thanks for all of our blessings. It is also not only our blessings we are to give thanks to our God for. Paul tells us to give thanks in all circumstances. Some)mes we don t recognize all that God has given to us. Many )mes we ignore the hand of God in our lives. God desires to pull us closer to himself by the use of whatever means necessary. When painful things come our way, we have the faith and trust in God to know that he is using it for our ul)mate good. Thanksgiving is a gi2 from God. When we give thanks, it changes our en)re perspec)ve in life. So o2en we approach life from seeing all the things we do not have, and desiring to have them. Instead, we need to take an inventory of all the things we do have, and praise the Lord for them. And then we can thank our God for the things we do not have, because there must be a reason why he hasn t given them to us. God knows the things we need even be5er than we know ourselves. The greatest gi2 that we can give thanks to our God for is the gi2 of our salva)on. Life eternal is ours through the blood shed by Jesus upon the cross. A life free of guilt and shame through the forgiveness that he purchased for us is a great gi2 for the here and now. This is the greatest gi2. We are given a gi2 in the na)onal day of Thanksgiving. I welcome you and your family to start the day off by entering his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise. Worship at Trinity will be at 10:00 a.m. Bring your nonperishable food item, and one thing you are thankful for. We will sing praises to our awesome God and give him the thanks for everything. I look forward to seeing you in worship. Thankful for all of you, Pastor Mark Cutler Pastor Will Be On Vacation Pastor Cutler will be taking some vaca)on )me Tuesday-Tuesday, November Please pray for him to have a )me of blessing and refreshment. 1

LWML Announcements Praise the Lord! A total of $ was collected for LWML Mites during the Noisy Buckets on LWML Sunday, October 7. LWML missions around the world are supported by Mites... LWML Mite money is used to further God's Kingdom through the mission grants selected by delegates at the LWML Montana District Conven)on and LWML Na)onal Conven)on. This month we focus on the following two Mission grants: EMMAUS LUTHERAN MISSION $3,000 (Montana District Grant) The new Livingston, Montana loca)on with personalized support is called, Together in Mission. Funds will assist with one month s rent, purchase of church paraments, and other worship supplies, as well as office needs and equipment. The LWML Montana grant of $3,000 will cover these expenses. May the Lord bless this new mission as they further the kingdom of God. LABORERS OF LOVE LUTHERAN BRAILLE WORKERS $100,000 (Na)onal Grant) Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. (Romans 10:17) Did you know there are approximately 11 million blind and/or visually impaired people in the United States, and of those about 95% are unchurched? For 74 years Lutheran Braille Workers (LBW) has been using their resources to engage blind and visually-challenged people by giving both spiritual and physical encouragement. Combined since 2012, Lutheran Blind Mission Society and Lutheran Braille Workers (LBW) are helping the visually challenged to see Jesus with the eyes of faith through the use of large print and braille Bibles. Laborers of Love will use this grant of $100,000 to print 20,000 English Standard Version (ESV) Bibles at more than 100 LBW Work Centers in the United States. This is a complicated process of transcrip)on, crea)ng and embossing zinc plates and then prin)ng a complete ESV Bible of 37 volumes in either large print or braille for a cost of $185. On the commercial market this same Bible would sell for $810, making the purchase of this Bible cost prohibi)ve for many blind and visually impaired persons. The Laborers of Love grant project will give these Bibles free of charge to recipients. As a Recognized Service Organiza)on (RSO), this ministry serves about 1,200 ac)ve par)cipants in 60 Outreach Centers throughout 23 states. LBW seeks to reach out to people with visual limita)ons so they too have the saving news of Jesus. Dear Lord, we ask You to bless Lutheran Braille Workers project, Laborers of Love, as they engage in sharing Your Word by producing 20,000 English Standard Version Bibles in braille and large print. Use our prayers and mites to further Your kingdom by using this ministry as a means to plant the seed of faith in the hearts of the visually challenged reading these Bibles, so they will know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. In Jesus name we pray, Amen. 2

Family Life Ministry News Stephen Ministry We give thanks for our Leadership Team who help to make this ministry the best that it can be in caring for people within our congrega)on while also reaching out into our community. Each week Trinity s Stephen Ministry trainees learn and prac)ce different skills in the four areas of what it means to be a dis- )nc)vely Chris)an caregiver: Compassionate, Full of Faith, Trustworthy, & Skilled. We are thankful for their dedica)on and service to care for others because of how Christ has cared for them. With the upcoming holiday season, we recognize this can be an emo)onally challenging and difficult )me, especially if it is the first holidays a2er a loved one has passed away or maybe life circumstances aren t as you imagined they would be in this season. We take referrals in the church office on an ongoing basis, if you or someone you know may benefit from a Stephen Minister. We would love to talk more about it with you. Colleen St. Pierre Shannon Rier srier@trinitykalispell.org November 7 ~ 9:00-11:00 am Invite A Friend ~ Kalispell MOPS Coordinator: Katina Hardgrove at Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit singing to God with gra2tude in your heart. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:12-17 Let us give thanks for one another here at Trinity as we con)nue to serve one another in love and also stretch to reach our community with the love of Christ. May we rejoice in singing and in worship together this Thanksgiving season as God prepares our hearts once again for the celebra)on of the birth of His most treasured gi2 to us, His Son Jesus. Trinity Lutheran Child Care Center Update Trinity Lutheran Child Care Center has been a mission of Trinity Lutheran Church since June We just celebrated 25 years of providing quality Christian child care in our community. During this time, we have doubled our licensing capacity from 60 children a day to 120 children per day. We have grown from one facility and using the fellowship hall of the church to four facilities. Ultimately, we would like to build one facility to meet all our needs, so we ask that you keep our longrange plans and growth in your prayers. We are a self-sufficient mission of this church and operate on a very tight, responsible budget. For that reason, we often do not have extra monies available for big ticket items that we might need. At this time, we are in desperate need of a large copy machine. As we pursue fundraising ideas, we ask for your help in meeting this need whether it is through information, financing, or prayer. We thank you for all congregational support we have received thus far and ask that you continue to keep our program, our caregivers, and our child care families in your prayers. Thank you! 3

Weekly mee)ngs, evangelism trainings, bonfires, fall retreat, bunco nights, spiritual surveys, small groups whew! The first six weeks of the fall semester pass in an exhilara)ng, exhaus)ng blur. (And don t forget the new baby in the mix!) Here s a li5le bit of what God s been up to as we kick off our third year (woohoo!) at UAA: For one of the first )mes since Cru at UAA began, there is a core group of freshman students who are s)cking around the ministry. About 15 or so contribute to the movement right now! Freshman are essen2al to get a ministry off the ground, and these freshmen are the real deal. We re grateful to get to invest in these students for the next four plus years! We just took 20 students to our annual Fall Retreat. The event was well a5ended by freshmen, and the group really seemed to bond as they played around outside in the crisp fall air. God put some great guys in front of us this year. Every fall, we meet new students on campus through spiritual interest surveys. Hundreds of students fill out these contact cards in the first weeks of school, and we spend the fall following up each one with a text and a personal invita)on to meet. One of my favorite stories from this year s batch of surveys involved four freshman guys that all live together in the dorms at UAA. I ve been able to meet with three out of the four so far, and only one said that he s a Chris)an. Two want to know more about God, and the fourth has no spiritual background, but told me as we were mee)ng, I just feel like this is the important stuff I need to know. Pray that God would make himself known in this circle of friends! Thank you for your love and support in the busyness of fall. We can t do it without you, and we d love to hear from you! How is your fall going? Please let us know how we can support you in prayer! Derek & Tess Please Pray: that Jesus would guide our home as we adjust to life with a new child! our freshman students would desire to know God more and share the Gospel with friends. 5

Lutherans for Life thanks all who donated goods and helped with the September 22nd Rummage Sale. The profit from the sale was $2, Our current projects are: donations to Hope Pregnancy Ministries, A Place Refuge Home for Mothers, putting up pro-life highway signs and providing pro-life materials to churches. I would like to thank all who have been praying for me. The heart issue I had was not a heart attack but is A-Fib. I had an echo gram and all seems to be working as it should.
