DAVE TRIPLETT Summer is gone and the leaves tell me that we are in the midst of fall. Fall will soon be gone and we will once again experience snow. As the seasons change, so do our lives change and white appears upon our heads. There is one thing that never changes and that is our God. Likewise His love for us never changes. His love for us is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow. His love for us yearns to bless us in this life and share eternity with us. While we struggle to embrace His love, His love for us never changes. God speaks to us through His Word. God speaks to us and gives us the boundaries by which we are to live our lives. The boundaries are to love God above all things and to love our neighbor as our self. The devil, the world and our sinful nature seek to distract us from the boundaries that God has established. Therefore anytime we see ourselves drifting from the focus upon our Savior, we are dealing with a distraction from the devil, the world and our sinful nature. Any time we are going through the trials of life, we are to ask ourselves where are we being pushed. If we are being pushed away from God, then the devil, the world and our sinful nature is at work. When we are struggling with the trials of life and we recognize that we are being pushed closer to our God, then God is at work among us. God wants to share eternity with us and He takes an active part in making that possible. God speaks to us through His Word, our fellow Christians, and the events of our lives. God seeks for us to make greater and greater commitments to Him to ensure the security of our souls. Christ paid our way to heaven and now our God wants to keep us on the path that leads to heaven. Our job is to open our hearts to receive His work. Look for the selfsacrificing love and there you will find our God at work. Remember God s love does not mean we accept the sin among us. God s love means that we gently point to our God in hopes that God can change their souls when they listen to Him. We call that friendship. Friendship means that we and God don t push you. We offer God s hope and you decide to reject it. We have a part-time organist. He is Zander Knowles. He is a college student at Brockport. He is the son of Pastor Knowles, director of Camp Pioneer. He will play for us the first two Sundays in November. He is helping his father the last two Sundays of October. He will help his father the last two Sundays in November. On November 13, I will have my right knee replaced. We have two pastors from Hope Lutheran Church in Greece as guest speakers. NEXT-TO-NEW SALE report from Mary Sceusa Complete report is posted on the bulletin board. Thanks to all those who helped, including 5 college students. There is work like folding and washing clothes that can be done all year, so please volunteer. Spring sale is April 27 and 28. Next-to-New gross $ Living Circle Gross $ Expenses $48.46 Expenses $ Thrivent Action Grant of $250 was used for baking supplies and lunches. WHAT S UP? WHAT NEW? Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside and scoops out all the yucky stuff, including the seed of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then he carves you a new smiling face, and puts His light inside you to share for all the world to see. Food Shelf For November: donations could include items needed for thanksgiving dinner dressing, potatoes, cranberry sauce, box mix desserts, etc. Soups are always needed as well as health and cleaning supplies. Have items here as soon as possible so they can be used in the Thanksgiving baskets that the Food Shelf prepares for families. Check out the gray bulletin board for monthly reports from the Food Shelf about their needs and what they have done. It gives you more donation information and contact information..council has discussed and approved directing the money received from the St. Pauly collection shed directly to the Community Hygiene Bank fund. This averages about $40 to $50 a month that can be used to purchase needed supplies for distribution. Welcome to worship Jayne New - currently in Florida for the winter, but her address is 42 Meadowview Dr., Brockport, MATT S COATS FOR KIDS collection is going on in the month of November. There is a large bin in the narthex for your donations of coats (new or good used) FOR ALL AGES! New gloves, mittens and hats can be donated as well in memory of Giana Bartolucci, the young women from Clarkson killed at Christmas time. MITES our Eastern District mites are slowly coming in, but you are encouraged to put your mites in the large box in the narthex during the month of November to help meet the LWML Eastern District mites budget by next March. ANYONE IS WELCOME TO DROP IN THEIR CHANGE TO HELP THE MISSION PROJECTS AROUND EASTERN DISTRICT THAT ARE FUNDED THROUGH OUR MITES. This is a new logo from the national LWML customized for our Living Circle group. Martin Luther Pastor Triplett will be having right knee replacement on Nov. 13. No hospital visits, please, but prayers are appreciated. There will be several weeks of recuperation. If you are in need of pastoral services, Rev. Chris Bode from St. John s in Hamlin, , will be available. On Nov. 19, Rev. Kirk Dueker from Hope, and on Nov. 26, Rev. Larry Stojkovic from Hope will conduct worship services and Bible classes. NO Wednesday Bible classes until after the new year. HOW CAN YOU HELP FOR THE COMING EVENTS? Saturday, November 11, :00 pm (Noon) till 4:00 pm First come, first served Where? at Concordia Lutheran Church 6601 Fourth Section Road Rt. 31 Brockport, NY (across from Wegman s) What are Personal Care Blessing Bags? They contain items for personal care such as soap, shampoo, deodorant, body wash, lotion, razors, toothpaste, feminine products, paper products, laundry detergent, assorted household cleaning items & more Who can receive these? Families and individuals in need; all ages, from kids to Seniors who live in the Brockport School District and SUNY Brockport Students. Cost? Items free to our community members. Just bring photo ID and proof of residency (current bill with address) or Student ID Next Community Hygiene Bank Distribution Saturday, January 13, 2018 Noon 3:00pm NOTE TIME CHANGE Distribution to the public on Nov. 11 will again be from 12:00 noon 4:00pm. Volunteers will again be needed from 9:30 am -4:30 pm, as well as lunch and breakfast items for volunteers. College students will not be helping in November, so your help is needed to setup and staff the various tables, greet people, help clean up, and other jobs as needed. You can work the whole day, or for a part of the day. There is a sign up sheet on the bulletin board by the parish hall doors for you to sign up by Nov. 8 so we know who is available to help. Hygiene donations needed are listed on the bulletin board. These include full sized, unopened shampoos, lotions, dishsoaps, and cleaning supplies. Cash donations are greatly appreciated in any amount! Checks should be made out to Concordia Lutheran Church with Community Hygiene Bank written in the memo line. Gift cards to Wegman s, Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart and Aldi s are particularly helpful. Donated items can be placed in any of the boxes around the church, and money or gift cards should be left in Scarlett Aeckerle s mailbox. I give deep thanks that I m at peace with kith and kin and neighbors, too. Dear Lord, for all last year s increase, That helped me survive and hope and do. My heart gives thanks for many things; I know not how to name them all. My soul is free from frets and strings, My mind from creed and doctrine s thrall.
