OPPORTUNITY TO PRAY FOR VOCATIONS The first week of November is National Vocation Awareness Week. Please join Catholics from around the diocese on Thursday, November 8 to pray for vocations. The Office for Priestly Vocations is sponsoring a Diocesan Day of Prayer for Vocations at St. Paul Church in Greensburg. Eucharistic Adoration will begin at 11 AM, concluding at 6 PM with sung evening prayer and benediction. SANTA SHOEBOX PROJECT Just a reminder that Santa shoeboxes need to be returned no later than Sunday, November 4 and placed in the SVdP container in the church gathering space. Monetary donations can be placed in the offertory (checks payable to APPALACHIAN OUTREACH) with the envelope labeled--shoebox Project, SVdP. Any questions-fran at FUNDRAISER PLANNING MEETING SCHEDULED Come and lend your brain for some storming! We will plan and schedule our 2019 calendar year fundraisers on Wednesday, November 7th at 7 PM in the parish office. All fundraising ideas will be considered! Worker bees are also very much encouraged to attend. SPECIAL DISASTER RELIEF COLLECTION Bishop Malesic has called for a second collection to be taken in all parishes of the Diocese of Greensburg the weekend of November 10-11, 2018 to help individuals and families recover from the storm that hit the following areas in our Diocese: Latrobe, South Greensburg, Derry, Herminie, Clarksburg, West Newton, Greensburg, Jeannette, Jacob s Creek, Lowber, Loyalhanna, Latrobe, Belle Vernon, New Stanton and Sutersville. For your information, all of the funds from the March 2018 collection have been disbursed for Fayette County flood relief and the remainder from that collection is being used now for current disaster relief - but the need is greater than the funds we have available. All future funds will be dispersed at my discretion and monies distributed will be vetted through Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Greensburg s Information and Referral Office. In my time as your Bishop, the generosity of the priests and people of the Diocese has constantly amazed me. I am confident that once again you will step up to the task and respond to your sisters and brothers in need. CD of A All members are asked to attend the Mass at St. Gertrude on Thursday, November 1st, followed by a memorial service for the deceased CD of A members. Family and friends are invited to attend the memorial service. The November meeting will follow in the church social hall. The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls) celebrates all who have died. At Mass on Friday, November 2, all parishioners who have died during the past year will be remembered. We hope friends and family of those who have lost loved ones, particularly this past year, will join our parish family for this memorial mass. We would like to invite everyone to join the Christ The King Ministry of Consolation members at a gathering following the mass in the social hall. This will be a time for fellowship with those who also have experienced the loss of a loved one. Light refreshments will be served.

3 2018 THANKSGIVING/CHRISTMAS BAKE SALE ALL PARISHIONERS are invited to share their time and talent by participating in our parish holiday bake sale. Please remember your parish in your will. RETIREMENT FUND FOR THE RELIGIOUS A donor writes, Your flyer touched my heart seeing the retired religious, such memories surfaced. Do you remember the sisters, brothers, or religious order priests who made a positive difference in your life? Today many are elderly and need assistance. Their religious communities struggle to meet retirement needs while continuing to serve the People of God.. Twenty-five percent of the total of this year s collection will be designated for the retired diocesan priests fund, and the remainder of the collection revenue will be passed on to the National Religious Retirement Office for distribution to the various religious communities applying for assistance. Please give to next week s second collection. 4 Region 2 Faith Formation Calendar of Sessions Fall 2018 (6:00-7:30 PM at the former St. James School) Grades K-5 November: 4 th & 18 th December: 2nd & 16 th We are looking for parents with clearances to volunteer with our Shoebox Santa project on Sunday, November 4 th, when the classes will assemble the shoeboxes. Donated items along with the shoeboxes will be distributed to people of need by the St. Vincent de Paul organization. He describes how the weak and sorrowful people now return with joy. These are the scattered people of God: the blind and the lame, the mothers and pregnant women. They shall be led along an easy road so that no one will stumble. The Lord s kindness and mercy are on all these weak and broken people. Here and in Psalm 126 we find the most lovely poetic images of God s love and care for us. Those that sow in tears / shall reap rejoicing. Although they go forth weeping, / carrying the seed to be sown, / they shall come back rejoicing, / carrying their sheaves (Psalm 126:5 6). Although God had to punish Israel for their many sins, God never forgot them, scattered as they were, and brings them all back to the land of their ancestors, there to flourish and be joyful again. We can see in this the hope and the promise of our own redemption, gathered from the far corners of the earth into the great banquet of God.
