Pray the Psalms or the Liturgy of the Hours Whether you are praising, giving thanks, asking for forgiveness or seeking an answer you'll find an appropriate psalm. The ancient prayer of the Church called the Liturgy of the Hours is an excellent way to pray through the Book of Psalms throughout the year. 2. Recite the Jesus Prayer Say Lord Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner repeatedly as you quiet your heart and mind. 3. Meditate using Scripture Choose a passage from the Bible. Read the words and ask God to let the passage speak to you. Pay special attention to anything that strikes you and ask God what he wishes for yu to draw from that passage. In the Garden of Gethsemani, before His crucifixion, Jesus asked His Apostles, Could you not keep watch with me for one hour? Spending one hour with Jesus thus became a tradition in the Church. Every First Friday of the month we will begin Devotions to the Sacred Heart of Jesus at 5:30 p.m. Second Sunday of Advent In today s Gospel John the Baptist urges us to Prepare the way of the Lord. We are called to help prepare the way of the Lord by making the real meaning of Christmas come alive in our own hearts, in our family and to reach out to those in need. Our Lady of Guadalupe This year we will celebrate The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe on Monday, December 11, Mass that day will be at 6:00 p.m. After Mass there will be a live reenactment of Our Lady s Apparition to Juan Diego. Our Lady of Guadalupe is the patroness of both our diocese and The Americas. Let us all join together at this feast to honor her. Volunteer Opportunity - Sacristan Do you wish to know the Lord more through concrete details of the sacristy? Gain knowledge of the Mass more deeply, be informed of all the vessels used for the Holy Sacrament of the Mass, and discover the how and whys of the liturgical year and the solemnities, If you have just an inkling of interest for any of these and are a person with attention to details with a passion for the needs of the church, then this might be for you..
