Anointing of the Sick takes place on the first Wednesday of each month, immediately following the 9:00 AM Mass, in the sanctuary. Anyone with an ongoing medical condition or who is seriously ill, anticipating a medical procedure or operation, is welcome to come. Gluten Free Hosts are available at all Masses. If you require a gluten-free host, please see the officiating priest before Mass. Bringing up the Gifts at Mass If the Mass intention has been requested by you or for your loved ones, and you would like to bring up the Gifts at the Offertory, please let the ushers know that you are present and would like to bring up the gifts. 4 Pastoral Council elections are this weekend and next. The list of candidates is both excellent and diverse, so please be sure to vote. As you know, last weekend we had the Annual Catholic Appeal in pew weekend. In addition to the 171 families who had already made pledges, another 50 families made pledges of $10,000. So we go into the second half of May with about $3,500 to go to make our goal of $85,000. Your response last weekend means that we are almost certain to make goal, it will just take a little more time. It is important not only that we make goal and have a high participation rate but that we also do our fair share of the important work being done by the Diocese. This weekend is First Communion so please pray for the 27 boys and girls who will receive Jesus for the first time. It is always my hope and prayer that from a young age they will have a sense of the Lord s presence deep within them when they receive His Body and Blood for the first time. My special thanks to Kathy Coyne who does such a great job of shepherding all the little lambs and their families throughout the year. Finally, remember that anyone who has recently been diagnosed with a serious condition or anyone awaiting an operation is always welcome to ask for the Sacrament of the Sick. We have a communal celebration every first Wednesday after the 9AM Mass, but you can also ask the priest after any Mass. Usually the priest will be able to anoint you immediately after Mass. On a regular basis, I have families come to the sanctuary after Mass, and we will then join together in the sacrament as we anoint and pray for the one who is burdened by illness. It is always a beautiful experience and the priest is always happy to have the honor to do the anointing. And just a quick update..the Honor Way Bricks have been shipped!! ELECTIONS May May We are excited to announce that voting is open for the Parish Council term. Seventeen members of our parish have accepted nominations a record! This is the first of two weekends that ballots are being accepted. We are grateful to the following parishioners who have accepted nominations: Bill Beran, Harry Carey, Kristin Chuba, Anthony D'Souza, Priya D'Souza, Richard Davis, Monica Harrington, Joe Jiminez, Susan Kaiser, Jeff Kress, Dan Loch, Kate Lucas, Samantha Lusniak, Bob Olson, Claudio Ronzitti, Brian Stone, and Tony Wiggins. You can vote for a maximum of five (5) candidates from the above list. Resumes with photos of the candidates are posted on the bulletin board in the hallway and also on an easel in the rear of the church. Ballot forms are located at the ends of the pews and also at the large, white ballot boxes located in the hallway and in the rear of the church. Please vote by circling a maximum of five names on the form, printing and signing your name in the spaces at the bottom for authentication and then placing it into one of the large ballot boxes. TWEETS OF THE Everyone has something to give society; no one is excluded from contributing to the good of We need to develop a prayer life that allows us to hear the Lord s voice, even if at times it seems dim and Gospel: In Kenya, I saw a herd of sheep answer a Massai shepherd who uttered a single quiet word. Do we listen to Jesus that attentively? We pray for those who bravely serve our country in the military and those deployed in dangerous locations. Thank God for those who have returned home safely. This gives us the opportunity to collect paper goods instead of food this month. Paper goods are expensive, and sought by families, as they are not purchasable with food stamps. The most needed items noted by Malta House and P2P include: DIAPERS, SIZES NEWBORN - SIZE 6; BABY WIPES, TOILET PAPER; PAPER CUPS, PA- PER PLATES, PLASTIC UTENSILS; GAR- BAGE BAGS, PAPER TOWELS, LAUNDRY DETERGENT, DISH DETERGENT. Please help out with any donation you can manage, everything will be given away to help struggling families. PRAYER.Are you the face of prayer? 6 May 14 No classes May 21 -Grades 1-6 meet at the 9:15 Mass followed by class. **Last Classes of the year! Congratulations to our Parish children who received First Communion yesterday. Please remember them in your prayers at this special time. WE WELCOME TO THE LORD S TABLE. Dear TOTAL families, On Sunday night we held our last TOTAL evening of the year. It was a wonderful night where we welcomed the 8 th graders who will be freshman next year and said goodbye to our seniors. I told the kids that I hate TOTAL on Sunday afternoons because I just want my Sunday evening to myself, but when 6 pm rolls around and I see the kids, my experience changes and I remember how much I love TOTAL. Sunday night was no exception. Daniela and I spent a lot of time in the yard on Sunday afternoon and I was feeling particularly tired and took a long nap. By the time I woke up it was getting late and we rushed out the door to get ready for the evening. We gathered in the hall with around 50 kids and our extraordinary TOTAL team. We welcomed the eighth graders, ate ice cream, played some games and then I invited the older kids to talk to the younger kids about why they kept coming to TOTAL long after Confirmation was done. Seven of our juniors and seniors got up and spoke from the heart about their experience at TO- TAL. Here are some of the things they said: I really felt welcomed here, I can be myself at TOTAL, I hated TOTAL in 9 th grade but something changed and I realized all these people really cared about me and I did not feel irrelevant anymore, This is a community where everyone belongs, I can just be myself here, I learned so much more about my faith, I became friends with people I wouldn t have otherwise, I reestablished friendships that were lost, I know I am loved and belong here. I was blown away by the depth of what these beautiful kids had to say. One of our major goals at TOTAL is that everyone, no matter what, feels welcomed and accepted and that no one is ever outside the circle. Everyone belongs here, no exceptions! As I listened to the kids I thought, Wow, a community that is built on love and acceptance has the power to change people and heal people! I want to encourage you to encourage your kid to hang in there with us because you never know. It might just be a place of transformation and healing for them too! Happy summer!! Joe ANNUAL CASH RAFFLE TO STRENGTHEN ST. JEROME You can help fund the parish's operations and good works by buying $50 raffle tickets. They are available before and after all weekend Masses. This year we have different cash prizes: First prize is now $10,000, second prize is $3,000, and third prize is $2,000. Our 22nd Annual Raffle Drawing takes place on Saturday, June 3, with our raffle barbeque picnic beginning in the church hall after the 4:30 PM Mass. The prize drawings are at 7:00 PM. We greatly appreciate your past support and really need it this year! Since its founding in 1999, Saint Catherine Academy has been committed to providing the highest quality multi-disciplinary alternative education program to students from all backgrounds and faiths who are impacted with autism, intellectual and developmental disabilities. In 2014, this essential ministry became the Saint Catherine Center for Special Needs to centralize pastoral and educational support for individuals with disabilities. This new center brings together resources for parishes and religious educators, an inclusive support program for Catholic schools, St. Catherine s Academy, the special education school of the Diocese of Bridgeport and Adult Day Service Program for adults with disabilities.
