Anointing of the Sick takes place on the first Wednesday of each month, immediately following the 9:00 AM Mass, in the sanctuary. Anyone with an ongoing medical condition or who is seriously ill, anticipating a medical procedure or operation, is welcome to come. Banns of marriage are announced for the second time between Adam Battersby and Lauren Humphrey and for the third time between Andrew Vento and Veronica Crawford.

4 Fr. Rojin s Synod Recap. September 19, 2015 will be remembered as one of the most important days in the history of the Diocese of Bridgeport. The Synod Mass, of which the preparations were begun a year ago, was celebrated with full spirit and enthusiasm at Webster Bank Arena. Thousands of people gathered together to praise, worship, and thank God for his wondrous gifts which are received through the mission carried out by the Catholic Diocese in Bridgeport. The day began when 700 young people joined Bishop Caggiano in a procession from the door of St. Augustine Cathedral to Webster Bank Arena. Members of the Neo-Catechumenate community of the diocese played music, sang, and danced in the joyous procession to the arena, while seminarians from the diocese wheeled a statue of the Blessed Virgin through the streets. More than 400 priests, deacons, and religious in the diocese were also in attendance. The Synod Mass was something special because it felt like a large family gathering with many of those in attendance knowing one-another from parish and diocesan events. It also displayed the full diversity of the Diocese which was explicitly revealed through various choir groups. With a 300 member adult-choir and the music of many ethnic choirs throughout the diocese, the morning took on a festive and joyous note as people clapped their hands, sang along, and applauded enthusiastically. The choir itself was a wonderful experience where different choirs sang various heart touching songs throughout the Mass including Vietnamese, Spanish, Haitian, Brazilian etc. The colorful attire worn by the people gave a festive look for the Synod Mass. The arrangements for the Synod were extraordinarily taken care of. The energy and enthusiasm shown by the people added additional beauty to the Synod. The message given by Bishop Caggiano was thought provoking. He started with a Chinese saying, All journeys begin by taking a first step. The Synod Mass is the first step towards the renewal of the Church in Bridgeport which is a long journey. He advised the Clergy to serve the church for a renewal and lead a holy life, families to become the domestic church, spiritual groups to renew the heart and mind and open the doors to worship and praise God. He urged the gathering to build up a heart that is dedicated towards the love for the poor and assure them of our help. The Bishop also called people s attention to a ten-foot tall lighthouse at the back of the arena, made from canned and boxed goods that will be donated to neighboring food pantries. The youth collected more than 10,000 items to construct the lighthouse and deliver to food programs. What shall be the take outs of the Synod Mass? If I borrow Bishop Caggiano s words, The best years of the Catholic Church in Fairfield County are not behind us, they are ahead of us. We came here in hope to bring love and renewal to the Church. In short, the Synod Mass became an occasion to proclaim to the world that with an empowered hope, spirit, and enthusiasm, we are going to work better for the Kingdom of God. In this great occasion we shall also be proud enough because St. Jerome Parish also participated in this epic event with a good color. I use this occasion to thank everyone who helped our parish to take part in the Synod Mass under the leadership of Dick Auwarter. Let the spirit of the Synod Mass guide our oncoming journey towards the Kingdom of God. Amen. THIS WEEK AT ST. JEROME. Take a Look Tuesdays! Beginning in October, All Saints Catholic School will be hosting Take a Look Tuesdays, a weekly open house. Help is needed to launder small altar linens. Small linens need to be washed weekly, ironed and folded. Linens may be taken early in the week and returned before the weekend. September Food Drive Thank You Our very successful September food drive brought in a total of 1,300 food items, 540 of which were the most needed items sold by volunteers after Masses. In addition, 20 pounds of fresh produce was collected. The Milk Fund Collection total was $80. As always, our parish responds with compassion to the needs of our hungry neighbors. The next meeting of the St. Jerome Women s Guild will be held on Monday, October 5th at 1:00 PM in the church hall. All women are invited. Want to become an ALTAR SERVER? If you are in grade 3 or older and have received the sacraments of Reconciliations and First Communion, we invite you to become an Altar Server. MASS INTENTIONS 2015 & 2016 We have Mass times available for intentions for daily 9:00 AM Masses (including Saturday) and weekend Masses. Please drop by or call the Office.

6 TOTAL TOTAL is off to a great start! 65 teens attended our Pizza party last Sunday in the Kevin Eidt Youth Room. We started the evening with Pizza and lots of yummy desserts. We then went on to play some games and ended the night with a prayer service in the church. Thanks so much to all who helped with serving, baking, and providing drinks and desserts. TOTAL will meet again on October 4th. There is still time to register. Please contact the REACH office or Daniela O Callaghan at danielaoc@optonline.net for a registration form. Teen lectors are needed for the 6:00 Mass. Anyone in need of service hours can put down 1 1/2 hours for each mass served as a lector. If you are interested in becoming a lector, please let us know. We are always in need of 2 liter bottles of soda, large jugs of water, and individually wrapped snacks. Please send them in with your child at any TOTAL meeting. If you would like to send in freshly baked treats, please contact Daniela. REACH REACH grades 1-6 meet this morning, September 27th at the 9:15 Mass followed by class. Family Portrait Session Fundraiser! Yvonne Marchese Photography is offering St Jerome families the chance to book a 20 minute Mini Portrait Session on Sunday, October 18th. Sessions are available every 1/2 hour from 10 am - 4:30 pm. The session costs $250 and includes 20 downloadable images from a private gallery and a custom FaceBook Timeline Cover.
