Anointing of the Sick takes place on the first Wednesday of each month, immediately following the 9:00 AM Mass, in the sanctuary. Anyone with an ongoing medical condition or who is seriously ill, anticipating a medical procedure or operation, is welcome to come. Gluten Free Hosts are available at all Masses. If you require a gluten-free host, please see the officiating priest before Mass.

4 It is that time of year when our Bishop, the Most Rev. Frank Caggiano, presents the St Augustine Medal of service to an individual or couple from every parish. Last year s awardees were Dick and Jane Davis, long time parishioners who were greatly involved in the days when REACH first began. The recipients this year are much newer to the parish but also actively involved. This year on Saturday, October 15 th, the Bishop will present medals to over 90 people including our own Alex and Cornelia Sgoutas. Alex is very publicly involved in the life of the parish. Along with Joe Licek, he is co-chair of our Buildings and Grounds Team. He also is a leader in both Saturday Morning Men s Group and our RCIA Ministry. Alex also is a key player in our Festival Committee, our raffle picnic, and our pancake breakfast. Cornelia, on the other hand, works quietly behind the scenes. She instituted and shepherds our daily Eucharistic adoration that takes place weekday afternoons from 4:00 PM 5:00 PM. She also assists Sr. Agnes in caring for our liturgical environment. Cornelia is a lector and one of four daily Mass coordinators. It is very hard to pick nominees for this award. We have so many who deserve it and who make this parish the wonderful community it is. We have enough people deserving of the award to last us into the next century. Speaking of RCIA, last year s group has continued to meet and we would like to invite anyone interested in being baptized or becoming Catholic to come to an Inquiry Night on Tuesday, October 18 th, at 7pm in the Resource Room. That is also the day on which Bible study will begin. This year we are doing a DVD on the psalms presented by Sr. Dianne Bergant, who was so well received last year. The Social Concerns Committee will be meeting on Monday, September 26th at 7:00 PM to plan projects for the rest of This is an open meeting parishioners are invited to come and share their ideas! FOOD DRIVE This Weekend September 24/25 The Milk Fund Collection boxes will be set out at church exits. The most needed food items requested by Person-2-Person's food pantry in South Norwalk include: hearty soup, pasta, peanut butter, jelly, cereal, boxes of tea bags, canned fruit, and crackers. After each Mass, volunteers will accept cash donations which will be spent on these needed items and added to our deliveries. Thank you for your part in St. Jerome Church's devotion to feeding the hungry. KEEP NORWALK WARM COAT DRIVE! This year's Norwalk Coat Drive is being held earlier -- the coat giveaway will take place on 10/22 at the Norwalk Police Station. Our Social Concerns Committee invites you to bring donations of new or gently-used coats, hats, gloves and mittens to the hallway through OCTOBER 16, which will give us time to get them dropped off for the giveaway. Our parishioners have traditionally donated beautiful coats that are immediately given to our neighbors in need. Please take the time to search through your homes for outgrown coats or coats you no longer wear. Any size coat (children s or adults) will be gratefully accepted TWEETS OF THE Serving is the way that mission is carried out, the only way to be a disciple of Mary had the courage to stand with Christ in her sufferings. Are you and I willing to do the same? Gospel: Everyone laughs if you ask if they worship an idol. But if your life centers on money, then it has become an idol. It s your God.

You can always reach the office at reachstjerome@optonline.net or TOTAL is off to a great start! 67 teens attended our Ice Cream and Ice Breakers party last Sunday in the Kevin Eidt Youth Room. We had an evening filled with games, lots of yummy desserts, and ice cream. We ended our night with a prayer service in the church. Thanks so much to all who helped with serving, baking, providing drinks, and desserts. TOTAL will meet again on October 9th. There is still time to register. Anyone in need of service hours can put down 1 1/2 hours for each Mass served as a lector. If you are interested in becoming a lector, please let us know. We are always in need of 2 liter bottles of soda, large jugs of water and INDIVIDUALLY WRAPPED snacks. Please send them in with your child at any TOTAL meeting. If you would like to send in freshly baked treats, please contact Daniela. PARISH FESTIVAL TODAY 9/25 11:30 AM to 3:00 PM Sunday, October 2 5:00 PM on the church steps! Join us for our first annual Blessing of the Animals, a service of celebration and thanksgiving for the animals that give us so much joy. The Church celebrates the feast of St. Francis of Assisi on 10/4. Francis lived in the 12th century and was a part of a wealthy merchant family. After living a very worldly life, he had a conversion and gave up all his wealth, lived a simple lifestyle and devoted his life to the poor. He had many followers in this simple lifestyle and they formed the Franciscan order. He is best known for his love of animals and nature. Today he is considered the patron saint of animals and the environment. In his memory the Church celebrates a service called the Blessing of the Animals.
