Bringing up the Gifts at Mass If the Mass intention has been requested by you or for your loved ones, and you would like to bring up the Gifts at the Offertory, please let the ushers know that you are present and would like to bring up the gifts. Widows Support Group Meets at 9:30AM on the second Thursday of the month in the Kevin Eidt Youth Room.

4 I am writing this on Palm Sunday but thinking of Easter. Christmas, of course, has many stories, but it is hard to find Easter equivalents. So, I am eagerly awaiting a package from Amazon that will hold a book of Easter short stories. I am hopeful. While I wait, let me turn not to stories, but to poetry. Poetry has the ability to help us look carefully and deeply at life, searching for deeper meanings. One of my favorites is a poem by Cardinal John Henry Newman, called LEAD KINDLY LIGHT. The context is that as a newly ordained priest, Newman is taken ill and must stay in Italy for three weeks. He is deeply saddened because he cannot do his priestly ministry in England. Finally, he gets on a boat and becomes becalmed for two weeks. Then inspiration comes, and he writes the poem. The poem is about getting home to England. He talks of a help in darkness. The night is dark, and I am far from home. Lead thou me on. Later he speaks says, And with the morn those angel faces smile, which I have loved long since, and lost awhile. The last stanza is the connection to Easter. Newman does it this way. Meanwhile, along the narrow rugged path, Thyself has trod, Lead, Saviour, lead me home in childlike faith, Home to My God. To rest forever after earthly strife in the calm of everlasting light. Meditate on those words as you think of the great gift of the Resurrection of Jesus that makes all things new. THIS WEEK AT ST. The Easter offertory will be reported as part of the April budget. We are hoping to show a good return for April which consists of five Sundays. RSVP to Syndi or Karen COMMONWEAL LECTURE Longtime editor, Paul Baumann, will deliver Fairfield University s 12th Annual Commonweal Lecture entitled My Thirty Years at Commonweal: Some Highlights, Some Mistakes, Some Prospects for the Future" at the Fairfield University Dolan School of Business Dining Room on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. After spending 30 years at Commonweal, Baumann has an unparalleled grasp of the current state of the Catholic intellectual climate. During his lecture, Baumann will explore and ask questions such as, What has changed and what has largely remained the same over the past three decades, both in internal church issues and in how Catholics engage in the larger culture? Additionally, he wonders, What might we expect to happen in the future when it comes to preserving a vibrant Catholic intellectual tradition? TUITION RAFFLE Fairfield Prep is proud to again present our $25,000 Tuition Raffle. The prize is to be paid directly to any K12 schools, colleges or universities or the financial institution that holds your school loans. Schools must be located and accredited in the U.S. Only 1,000 tickets will be available at $100 per ticket. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit the Scholarship Fund at Fairfield Prep. The drawing will be held at the Spring Event on Saturday, May 5, 2018 promptly at 10:15 p.m. in the Student Life Center, Fairfield Prep. Winning ticket holder does not need to be present to win. Thank you so much to all those who helped and supported us these last 2 months with food, physical strength, encouragement, and prayers. We wouldn t have succeeded without you. If you would like to nominate a parishioner who will help to make a difference at St. Jerome, please fill out a nomination form and place it in one of the two large nomination boxes. One box is located in the rear of the church and the other is in the hallway. Nomination forms are in the pews and at the nomination boxes. Also, for your convenience, you may fill out and submit an online form from home or from your smart phone during the open nomination period. The online form can easily be accessed on our parish website at or via the St. Jerome app from your phone. Nominations will close after the 12:30 PM Mass on Easter Sunday, April 1.
