Anointing of the Sick takes place on the first Wednesday of each month, immediately following the 9:00 AM Mass, in the sanctuary. Anyone with an ongoing medical condition or who is seriously ill, anticipating a medical procedure or operation, is welcome to come. Gluten Free Hosts are available at all Masses. Bringing up the Gifts at Mass If the Mass intention has been requested by you or for your loved ones, and you would like to bring up the Gifts at the Offertory, please let the ushers know that you are present and would like to bring up the gifts. 4 Today is Pentecost Sunday, the birthday of the Church. Here at St. Jerome Church we have much to celebrate. This is a community with strong lay involvement. Just last week we saw that strength in an election of new Pastoral Council members from a list of 17 strong candidates. On Saturday June 3 rd, we will see another sign of strength: the 20 th Annual Parish Raffle. As I write this, we are ahead of last year and even the weather looks like it will help out. Both my trusted weather apps predict sunshine. The raffle committee led by Karen Christensen, John Kuczo, and Missy Ely has sprung into action, and with lots of teamwork, everything will be perfect. It is with sadness, however, that I inform you that Karen and her family will be moving to Texas, shortly after the picnic. As regular readers know, I talk about the twelve, my key lay leaders who devote enormous energy and talent to the parish. I call them the twelve though sometimes it is really the twenty five. There is enormous devotion to St. Jerome and the work of the kingdom in this parish. One of the twelve is Karen Christensen. She has done so much for us. Her move will be a loss to the parish, not only of a hard worker, but of one who seeks the good of others without asking anything in return. We will miss her and I will miss her. Her parents Ralph and Terri Fredericks will also be moving to Florida, so in one swoop we lose five faithful parishioners. Change is supposed to be good, but in this case I am not so sure. Our thanks and praise go with Jeff, Karen and their son Tyler as they go forth. Their family will always be in the hearts. World War I: Beyond the Front Lines The Knights of Columbus Museum in New Haven recently opened World War I: Beyond the Front Lines, an exhibition exploring America s involvement in the Great War including the K of C s Catholic outreach to servicemen at home and abroad. The museum, located at 1 State Street in New Haven, is open 10-5 daily. Admission and parking are free. More information can be found at kofcmuseum.org. Catholic Charities of Fairfield County Donation Angel Car Donation Program We will tow your vehicle away absolutely free! Donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of your un-wanted car, van, truck, motorcycle, RV or boat directly to Catholic Charities of Fairfield County. You will receive full fair market value for your donation as an IRS tax deduction. Donation Angel is a nationwide service, so even if your vehicle is far away from Fairfield County, it can still support Catholic Charities of Fairfield County. WANT TO BE AN ALTAR SERVER? We are looking for new altar servers. Any child that has received their First Communion is welcome to train as an altar server. Training will be held two Mondays, June 5 & 12 at 7:00 PM. Whitney, USMC Midnight Run Donations The Midnight Run program provides various donated items to homeless individuals in NYC on a monthly basis. St Phillips coordinates the program in our area. We can help by donating clean clothing items in good condition. (Please no ripped or dirty items.) GREATEST NEED - Men s clothing such as; socks, t-shirts in medium to extra large, baseball hats, shoes sizes 9-12, sneakers or work boots, sweatshirts, jeans sizes waist, and button down shirts. Other items needed are toiletries, deodorant, soaps, wash cloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste and shampoo. These items can be dropped off at St. Phillips anytime under the car port located by the Office entrance on the far side of the building. Please be sure to mark the bag or box with the name MIDNIGHT RUN ITE MS. Thank you for considering helping those individuals in need. 6 TOTAL graduation is scheduled for Sunday, June 11. All high school seniors and their families are invited to a special Mass and dinner that evening starting at 6:00. Please Daniela with the number of family members attending. The 9 th grade Confirmation retreats have been scheduled for Friday, June 23 and Monday, June 26. All incoming 10 th graders must attend one day to fulfill Confirmation requirements. Photos from the Fourteen Steps are up!! Please stop by and check out the TOTAL bulletin board. Thanks to Jack O Melia for his great photos. As the dust settles on REACH , I am always so grateful that we have made it through another year. I am indebted for the many people who step up and volunteer each week to help with the varied tasks that keep our program running so well - the catechists and co-catechists and classroom helpers, especially Clare and Elizabeth Beggan, our faithful first grade assistants. In addition, those who helped in the office, the hall monitors, and those who provided baked goods every week. After the busyness of the morning and the classrooms cleared out every week, three wonderful volunteers would appear - Greg Arpino and Dennis and Susan Kaiser. They put away our tables and chairs, sweep, remove trash, and leave everything ready for Monday morning. I m also thankful for our evening helpers - 7th grade Annalisa Breisler and 8th grade Donna Gasparro and Maria Roach were always there to help Fr. Dave and Fr. Rojin. Finally, many thanks to all of our families - students, moms, dads, grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends, neighbors for being part of our REACH family at St. Jerome each week. If you have not yet responded to the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal, please set aside a moment to prayerfully consider a gift amount that your means will permit. Notre Dame, Fairfield Bacon and Brew Fest (21 and over event) Saturday, 6/10/17 Noon 4:00 PM An afternoon of beer sampling, live music, food and fun! We are looking for food truck vendors as well as groups and individuals to participate in the their 1st Annual Bacon Cookoff! Calling all local firehouses, police stations, church groups, civic organizations, restaurants, etc. Let's see if you have the winning bacon-themed dish! PARISH LOST & FOUND We have many items that have been found this year. Most are located in the basket in the back of church. In addition, a package with an Easter card (written in Greek) has been found and is in the office. Please be sure to check for your lost items!! REACH & TOTAL TUITION Balances overdue! All outstanding tuition balances for the REACH/ TOTAL school year are now past due. Please submit your payment to the REACH office ASAP to settle your accounts.
