Bring lawn chair and bag lunch. Dress comfortably. Contact Ellen at (920) by August 12. (Cost: $15.00) A Message from Father Tom Feeding the 5,000 I was praying with our gospel for this weekend. There was a huge crowd, and they needed food. Someone offered the very small gift of five loaves of bread and two fish. What good is such a small gift when so many needed to be fed? That is when I realized that we can all do a little bit, our small part, and God provides the miracle. God will multiply our gift. With this I thought of all the wonderful volunteers we have in our parish. We have many people doing their part, and with everyone giving their gifts of time and talent, we have an exciting and dynamic parish. For example, we now have volunteers taking care of all the flower beds and plants around our parish. This makes our Church and school look very beautiful. Deacon Bruce is beginning a care ministry so our parishioners will be visited in the hospital every day, rather than just once a week. Think about everything our parishioners do at Holy Cross Parish: We have all of the Liturgical ministries with reading, serving, music, ushering, hospitality and Eucharistic ministers at every Mass. This includes those who make our wonderful funeral dinners (and other events that have food). We have our office and scrip volunteers, a Visitation Committee to the nursing homes, First Friday communion distributors, athletic volunteers who help with CYO and KCSS athletics. Not to mention our Faith Formation catechists/volunteers, as well as Confirmation and RCIA volunteers. Don t forget all the people on our committees and councils who help plan how our parish is run. We also have two great trustees who give lots of their time and help me a lot. This does not include all of the volunteers who do things on their own that I don t even know about. Every time a volunteer steps in and helps, they are giving their little bread and fish, but then God will multiply it to feed our entire parish. I would like to thank every person in our parish who gives their time and talent. Know that I pray for you daily when I pray my breviary and at Mass. Fr. After Monday breakfast at the Center, we ll walk five miles over the Mackinac Bridge! 5 We Are Now in Ordinary Time. So What IS Ordinary Time? AUGUST 3, TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME 5 Ordinary Time makes up most of the liturgical year in the Catholic Church. Ordinary Time refers to the period of the liturgical year that falls outside of the major seasons (Advent, Christmas, Lent, and Easter). Many people think Ordinary Time refers to the parts of the Church year that are unimportant, but nothing could be further from the truth. Ordinary Time is called "ordinary" because the weeks are numbered. It is the ordered life of the Church the period in which we live our lives neither in feasting (Christmas and Easter seasons) or in more severe penance (Advent and Lent), but in watchfulness and expectation of the Second Coming of Christ. During Ordinary Time, the priest and deacon will wear green vestments. Now you know.
