A Message from Deacon Mark Jesus Wept (John 11:35) On my trips to Colorado with the Catholic youth from our parish, I needed to memorize the ABC Scripture passages. When it came to the letter J, Jesus wept was easy to remember. It is just two words, but what a powerful verse! In the Gospel reading for today, Jesus is overcome by the grief of the loss of Lazarus, by Mary crying and by the lamentations of Mary and Martha s friends. Here we see the human side of Jesus heart. Jesus weeps for all of us, every time we are hurting, lonely or destitute. He weeps with us in our sorrows. Jesus hears every prayer we make, even if He does not answer us right away. He is with us even when he is holding back his healing touch. He may not even give us what we ask for, but He will give us something good, far greater than we will ever imagine. Jesus heart is human but His love is divine, and He will give us the greatest of gifts, an everdeepening relationship with Him. We need to trust in the one who hears all our prayers. We need to believe with all our heart that He will never abandon us. Deacon Mark Congratulations to Robin Van Zeeland Robin Van Zeeland is one of the deserving recipients of the 2014 Faith That Works Award, presented by The Compass newspaper. Robin and other business owners, managers, supervisors and business persons will each receive this prestigious award next week from Bishop Ricken. The Faith That Works Award is presented to those who have influenced the workplace through business practices that reflect the teachings of Jesus Christ and his Church and who share of themselves in their parishes and/or communities. Congratulations, Robin, Terry and family! We are proud of you, and we re grateful for your strong witness here at Holy Cross Parish. May God bless you in all you do. Warming Shelter Thanks Thank you to all who prepared food, served the evening or breakfast meal and volunteered to stay at the Fox Valley Warming Shelter for a shift. Everything was so appreciated by the staff and the guests at the shelter, and volunteers were thanked many times. Thanks for responding to the call for help. God bless you all! Called to Love As they were marching out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, Simon by name; this man they compelled to carry his cross. Matthew 27:32 The Lord calls us to love God and our neighbor. Every day, we have opportunities to love our neighbor and help him carry his cross. Opportunities like these aren t usually big events but often ordinary occurrences like helping someone carry their groceries or holding a door. The key is putting the other person s needs before our own and not expecting anything in return.
