Free Will Offering A Note from our Trustees Your trustees are continuing to meet with Fire Marshall, Bill Newberry, to bring our buildings into compliance with current building codes. We have most of our new emergency exit signs and lighting now in place. A permit has been obtained for the remaining signs to be placed in our basement, Narthex and below the clock at our Sanctuary entrance. Our electrician, Jack Herbert, has promised installation by mid-november. As of this writing we have applied for a permit to eliminate the sliding doors between Fellowship Hall and the stairway to our parking lot. We will replace these doors with a hinged door that will swing towards the stairway and resist catching fire for 90 minutes. Through the next year, you will notice subtle changes as we replace existing doors with fire rated ones and in some cases reverse their hinging. We are also working on water and mold problems in our basement. You may have noticed that we no longer have a drain pipe crossing over the walkway on the east side of our sanctuary. Rick Newman has dug a drywell beyond the walk, channeled the concrete, run the pipe into the well and replaced the concrete. In addition to this work, Rick has caulked windows, installed window wells on each of the windows and will shortly install covers over each well. Pastor Sandie dug channels on the far side of the walk, which Rick filled with stones, to disperse water traveling back towards our building. In addition to all this work, Sandie has cleared all of our drainpipes on the east side of our building. Continued on next page

2 Continued from our front page We have not forgotten our commitment to replace the Lift. Rick Newman and I are in charge of periodically calling the state to request that they act upon our application for a permit. Hopefully a little harassment will eventually produce results. Word has gotten out about our West Belmar Players!

4 Small Group Survey... We ve listed a few and encourage you to add yours. Through Team Vital and our United Methodist Conference we are given an opportunity to join with other United Methodist Churches in our conference to encourage and support each another. All of the Vital Team ministry churches have received individual monthly consulting and other resourcing opportunities from the conference. Meeting with other churches in our conference has been a positive experience. We are learning from each other what works and what doesn t work. Planning for ministry is a spiritual process that engages both the leadership of the church and the congregation in prayer, biblical reflection and conversation to discern God s vision for the church at this particular time and place. Our prayer is that we would move to action in these 5 areas of vitality... Inspiring worship & inviting people into a deeper faith Reaching and making new disciples for Jesus Christ Engaging people in Mission Encouraging Generosity Engaging people in their faith through Small Groups Small groups are formed by people who share common interest that they want to explore through a faith perspective. Through the encouragement & with the support of Team Vital we are polling our church to find out what special interests you might have. Is there a small group that you would be interested in?
