In today's Gospel, Jesus invites us to just the opposite. The reading opens with the crowds "murmuring" their doubts about Jesus after he has proclaimed himself the Bread of Life.

If you turn back to the story in Exodus, you'll see another similar word: murmuring.

Jesus himself is "the living bread" and "flesh f o r t h e l i f e o f t h e w o r l d. " This is not an exclusive concept. "Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me." Why?

2 St. Raymond of the Mountains Church August 12, 2018 GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time Have you ever approached a hushed group and were certain they were talking about you? It's an uncomfortable feeling to catch people murmuring about what you did, said, or didn't do. It breeds division and exclusion. In today's Gospel, Jesus invites us to just the opposite. The reading opens with the crowds "murmuring" their doubts about Jesus after he has proclaimed himself the Bread of Life. "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? how can he say 'I have come down from heaven'?" In his response, Jesus brings up the Israelites and the manna God brought them in the desert. If you turn back to the story in Exodus, you'll see another similar word: murmuring. As the going got tough, the Israelites doubted Moses and God's plan to protect and care for them as a chosen people. Here, Jesus proposes a difficult theological concept. Jesus himself is "the living bread" and "flesh f o r t h e l i f e o f t h e w o r l d. " This is not an exclusive concept. "Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me." Why? Because "the Father who sent me draw[s] him." The next time you're at Mass, take a few moments to watch the communion line. Young and old, families and singles, diverse races and cultures and stories? we are all drawn to the Eucharistic table. Christianity does not hide behind locked doors in an exclusive clubhouse, whispering behind the backs of nonbelievers. Eucharistic Ministers, help with the distribution of communion at mass, you must be 18 and have received Confirmation. Cantors or Choir Members, to help lead the congregation in song. We know you can sing and will help you! We try to meet your requests for preferred mass times but some flexibility is needed to fill the schedule. Current clearances are required for anyone over 18 and we will help you with obtaining what is needed. If you have served in the past in any of these positions or are interested in starting please call or the Parish Office (724) and we will get you started! Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults Does God really exist? Did Jesus really rise from the dead? If you really believe, then your lifestyle must be obviously different from the lifestyle of someone who does not believe. To simply say I believe but live as though your belief has no relevance to what you do or say during your days is hypocritical, and God will judge you accordingly. If you deliberately refuse the gift of Faith or insist on doing as you please, you risk condemnation to an eternal agony of loneliness in the pitch-black darkness of nothingness. On the other hand, if you truly believe, put your Faith into practice, pray daily, regularly go to Confession and place yourself at the service of others, your reward is guaranteed to be an eternal joy and happiness of life with God and your other loved ones in a new paradise, a new heaven and a new earth. NEW EVANGELIZATION Evangelization is the proclamation of the message of Jesus Christ. The message is love. The method of proclaiming the message is with love. Every Christian has been commissioned by Jesus to teach others this Gospel by word and especially by example. Every evangelist should begin his or her vocation by developing a spirituality exemplified by Jesus Himself and by his Virgin Mother Mary. Some individuals proclaim their own ideas instead of God s message. Prayerful discernment and familiarity with the Bible and the Catholic Catechism are necessary to lead others to a knowledge of the Truth. Both the speaker and the listener will profit spiritually if the message truly comes from God. All of us are called to evangelize, to bring both ourselves and others to a deeper knowledge and practice of our Catholic Christian Faith. The word prophet is derived from the Greek which means to speak on behalf of, so literally, a prophet is one who speaks on behalf of God. A common misconception is that a prophet is one who foretells the future. In effect, the prophets spoke out against the evils of their times. Their predictions were simply their statements of what they saw as the inevitable calamities if the people followed their own inclinations instead of the laws of God, or the certain salvation even in an apparently hopeless situation if they turned to God and did as He commanded.
