Sacrament of Penance: The Sacrament of Penance is offered each Saturday at 1:00PM. and at other times by appointment with one of our priests. Marriage: A couple planning marriage must make an appointment with one of our priests or deacons at least 6 months in advance of the marriage.

3 NEW ALTAR MISSAL The Roman Missal we use at the altar for all Masses has just been replaced with a new one. Since the introduction of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal with the new English translation six years ago, several new saints have been added to the calendar with their individual prayers. Our new missal incorporates those updates. If you would be willing to memorialize the missal, please call Pat at the Rectory for details. GIVING TREE COMING SOON! This year the most requested items are Gift Cards and household items such as towels, bedding, dishes, pans, etc. As usual, we will have specific requests posted on the Giving Tree but we wanted to alert you that we note fewer requests for toys and clothing items. This change reflects the desire of our recipient charities to promote greater autonomy and individualization for their clients as they move into family-based households rather than group settings. Your generosity, especially with gift cards, allows these families to choose items which reflect their individual needs and desires. THE SANCTUARY LAMP AND ALTAR CANDLES burning throughout the week of November 26, 2017, have been donated in loving memory of Frank Moroney, requested by Eleanor Moroney. MEMORIAL CANDLES - You can arrange to have a candle burn continuously for one year in memory of a family member or friend. A brass plate will be affixed to the shelf directly below the candle bearing the name of the person or persons memorialized. To arrange for a Memorial Candle, please call or stop in the Parish Office. FAITH FORMATION Religion classes for children in Grades 1 through 8 attending public school are held on Sunday mornings following the 9:15AM Family Mass in the Church.. Diocesan guidelines require two years of preparation for First Holy Communion. Children 6 years of age or older who have not been baptized must receive two years of instruction before receiving the sacrament of Baptism. 5 OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE 11/26/2017 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Unfortunately, the more I study and know about the bridges, the more uncomfortable I become when I cross. - Dr. Igor Belykh Many of us read Thornton Wilder s novel, The Bridge of San Luis Rey, for English class in high school. It is the fictional tale of an equally fictitious bridge between Lima and Cusco, Peru. On a Friday afternoon in 1714 the bridge, woven by Incas a century earlier, collapsed. Wilder sets about telling the life stories of five pedestrians who perished in the collapse. Cont. Dr. Igor Belykh, a mathematician at Georgia State University, recently completed a study of how the movements of bridges and pedestrians feed off each other to cause swaying. Some bridges, such as the Squibb Bridge and London s Millennium Bridge, as they were originally constructed, sway dangerously to the rhythm of walking feet. As we mark the end of Ordinary Time with the Feast of Christ the King today, the liturgy reminds us of the great truth that Jesus is the bridge between humanity an divinity, between time and eternity. And he is the one and only totally secure bridge into the future. Other bridges have swayed and collapsed like the Bridge of San Luis Rey, but Jesus endures through the ages. We never have to feel uncomfortable when we allow him to carry us into the Father s presence. Jesus can absorb the pounding of our sins, the swaying of our good resolutions. In fact, as he carries us nearer and nearer to our heavenly destination, we listen for the voices of angels singing, Come and meet those dancing feet the feet of the saints who have crossed before us. We almost suffered an even more devastating collapse in Brooklyn not so long ago. Two years after it opened, The Squibb Bridge between Brooklyn Heights and Brooklyn Bridge Park had to be closed for repairs. The charming sway that engineers had incorporated into the structure turned out to be just too much. An alert judge, who had undoubtedly read Wilder s novel, ordered the 1.3-mile-long bridge closed to the pedestrian traffic that it was built to serve. Inspection uncovered serious design flaws. Those flaws, that took nearly three years to correct, involved the installation of shock absorbers to disperse the constant tempo of foot traffic ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL To date, 249 parishioners have responded to the 2017 Annual Catholic Appeal with gifts and pledges totaling $52,505 on our parish goal of $80,000. The gap between pledges and goal comes to $27,495. When this year s Appeal ends on December 31 st, the diocese will bill our parish for that amount unless we can close the gap, or at least lessen it. To that end, we will be taking up a collection at the doors of the church after every Mass this weekend, November 25 th and 26 th and the following weekend. There are still envelopes available for any parishioners who wish to receive credit for their gifts. But, even if you are willing to simply drop cash or a check into the basket, please do so. COLLECTIONS - The collection for the week of November 19th amounted to $ for the parish. Thank you very much for your continued generosity.

6 BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY of St. Gregory and Our Lady of the Snows is sponsoring a six-week Bereavement Support Group for adults who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The sessions are held on Mondays, until December 11th, from 4:00-5:30PM, in St. Gregory s Rectory. For more information or to register, call Cathy or Joan ST. Join us for a fundraiser to support the Academy on Wednesday, December 6th, between 5:00-9:00PM, at Chipotle, located at 2335 New Hyde Park Rd. Bring in this flyer, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier that you are supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to the Academy. See you there!! PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY - Prayer shawls are for those who are in need of comfort, to provide hope and healing to those who are most in need of a reminder of God s love for them. Prayer shawls and lap robes are available at no cost. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 29th, at 1:00PM in the Office. For more information on the Ministry or for a shawl or lap robe, call Maria Altamuro at ROSARY SOCIETY will be holding its annual Christmas Party at Anthony s Restaurant on Monday, December4th, at 7:00PM. Dinner will include salad, choice of one of three entrees, wine & soda, dessert, coffee & tea at a cost of $40 per person. A grab bag will also be part of the celebration. If you would like to participate, please bring a gift worth between $10-$15 to the party. Participation is voluntary and was a lot of fun last year. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2017 CRAFT GROUP will have its 38th Annual Christmas Craft Sale on Saturday, December 2nd, from 12:00-6:00PM and on Sunday, December 3rd, from 9:00AM-2:00PM in the Oak Room. All of the proceeds go to a charity to help feed the hungry. There will be beautiful holiday decorations and gifts for everyone - family, friends, teachers, secret Santa, grab bag and hostess gifts. If you are able to donate cakes, cupcakes or cookies, it would be most appreciated. Please bring the items to the Oak Room on Saturday at 12:00PM or Sunday at 9:00AM. BREAKFAST WITH SANTA - The Family Life Committee invites you to have Breakfast with Santa on Saturday, December 9th, 9:30-11:00AM in the Oak Room.
