Sacrament of Penance: The Sacrament of Penance is offered each Saturday at 1:00PM. and at other times by appointment with one of our priests. Marriage: A couple planning marriage must make an appointment with one of our priests or deacons at least 6 months in advance of the marriage.

3 FAITH FORMATION EASTER DUTY - After receiving First Holy Communion, all the faithful are bound by the obligation of receiving Communion at least once a year. This precept must be fulfilled during the Easter Season unless for a good reason it is fulfilled at another time of the year. By special induit, in the U.S., the time period for fulfilling this precept has been extended to include the period beginning the First Sunday of Lent, March 5th, to Trinity Sunday, June 11th. Religion classes for children in Grades 1 through 8 attending public school are held on Sunday mornings following the 9:15AM Family Mass in Gregorian Hall. Diocesan Guidelines require two years of preparation for first Holy Communion. Children 6 years of age or older who have not been baptized must receive two years of instruction before receiving the sacrament of Baptism. In all cases, parents/guardians must make an appointment to speak with Sr. Patricia Anglin at the Office of Faith Formation RCIA - If you are an adult, 18 years or older and interested in completing your Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion) now is the time to register. 5 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER 4/30/2017 PASTOR S DESK I think that I shall never see A poem lovely as a tree. Joyce Kilmer When my brother Kevin and I were youngsters, we looked forward to our annual stay at Edgemere on Lake Pocotopaug, where our parents met each other in Like almost all the old resorts at the lake, Edgemere fell victim to progress in the late 1960 s, its structures demolished to make way for condominiums. The only surviving landmark is an ancient bifurcated apple tree near the roadside. We used to climb up and sit in the divide to watch softball games on the adjacent ballfield. Now that I own my cottage on Spellman s Point, I drive past that apple tree, sometimes wondering if its advancing deterioration doesn t somehow parallel my own physical decline. Two years ago, one side of the divided trunk gave way to rot and fell. That set me to checking my will and life insurance! So, I sympathize with the good burghers of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, who looked on with tears in their eyes last week as a 600-year-old white oak tree on the lawn of the local Presbyterian Church was cut down. Cont. There is another tree, far more ancient than the Basking Ridge Oak one that was cut down ages ago, but continues to live and bear fruit. It is the Cross of Calvary. It began its existence as the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden, and is destined to be the Tree of Life once again in the New Jerusalem where it will bear fruit every month and whose leaves will serve as medicine. Perhaps the grief we feel over the loss of a tree is a vestigial memory of the debacle of Eden and the outrage of Calvary. And perhaps the thrill of hope we feel when a sapling is planted in place of the missing tree, especially when the sapling has been born of the felled wood - as is the case in Basking Ridge is an instinctive anticipation of the fulfillment of all of God s promises. Still, I wish that I had picked an apple or two when Edgemere s apple tree was still fruitful. How wonderful it would be to watch that apple tree renewing itself in back of my cottage. REVISED COMMUNION PROCEDURE: Beginning next Sunday, May 7th, a new procedure for receiving Holy Communion will become effective for all Saturday Vigil and Sunday Masses. There will be two Communion Stations at the head of the center aisle. All communicants will approach Communion by way of the center aisle, and return by way of the side aisles. There will continue to be two Special Ministers of Communion distributing the Precious Blood on each side of the church. We ask for your cooperation in putting this change into effect smoothly. Christopher Columbus had yet to land in the western hemisphere when the tree was a sapling. George Washington had a picnic with the Marquis de Lafayette in its shade. Thirty-five Revolutionary War veterans are interred beneath its branches. COLLECTIONS: The collection for the week of April 23rd amounted to $7,775. Thank you for your generosity.

6 WELCOME WALL - Today, after the 8:00AM Mass, Jan Casale will be taking pictures of parishioners who would like to be featured on our Welcome Wall Board. FESTIVAL CHAIRPERSONS MEETING will take place this Monday, May 1st, at 7:30PM in the Office Basement. ROSARY SOCIETY - The next meeting will take place this Monday, May 1st, at 7:30PM starting in the Church for the crowning of Mary. Bring your rosary beads as we will be reciting the Rosary. We will then move to the Oak Room for MOVIE NIGHT!! Complete with popcorn and refreshments. The movie is Mother Theresa. We will also have our election of officers this night. Food pantry items will be accepted at the meeting as well. Please join us, new members welcome!! BEREAVEMENT MINISTRY of St. Gregory the Great and Our Lady of the Snows is sponsoring a six-week Bereavement Support Group for adults who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The sessions will be on Monday afternoons from May 1st - June 12th (no meeting on Memorial Day, May 29th), from 4:00-5:30PM. We will meet in St. Gregory s Office Basement. During the planning and organization of the Festival, there are many expenses incurred. To help defray some of these expenses, we will once again conduct a SPON- SORSHIP DRIVE. Although this drive focuses primarily on the businesses we patronize, we also welcome any new sponsors who wish to participate. If you feel that your employer or a business you are familiar with would be willing to participate, please submit the name and address of a contact along with the name of the business to the Parish Office and a letter will be forwarded. In addition, you, your family and friends may also participate as a sponsor. All contributions are tax deductible. 7 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER CREEDMOOR CIVIC 90TH ANNIVERSARY CELE- BRATION will take place on Saturday, May 6th, from 1:00-5:00PM at the Queens Farm Museum.
