Like our founders, we are called by Baptism to live as examples of Catholic faith and values, and as witnesses of Christ in the world. Our parish is small in size but great in heart. 4 Annual Christmas Carol Sing-a-long! The Sing-a-long is this weekend at 6:00 PM on Sunday. Invite your friends, relatives and neighbors and join us for refreshments and Christmas Carols! We will begin with Evening Prayer in St. Barbara Church at 6:00 PM followed by singing in St. Barbara Parish Hall at 6:30PM. Free fun for all ages! No need to have a ticket or reservation just come and join us! This weekend, December 16th and 17th, we will have representatives from Shepherd s Field Family selling authentic Bethlehem Olive Wood products in the Parish Hall after each Mass and at the Sing A Long. These would make a special Christmas gift for a loved one or two! Please plan to stop by their display this weekend. Purchases help support keeping Holy Family Church in the Holy Land open among much tension in that region. All Liturgical Ministers: All Altar Servers, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist and Ushers, please stop by the Sacristy and pick up your Christmas Gift. 5 REJOICE Isaiah proclaims truly good news to us! God s coming brings not sadness, guilt, fear, wrath, or condemnation. No, God s coming is a source of comfort and joy. Saying it once is not enough, for today s readings are full of joy. Mary s Magnificat substitutes for our psalm today, and our second reading encourages us to rejoice, to give thanks and praise. This is the root meaning of the Greek word for eucharist. We are urged to rejoice and give thanks, because the coming of the Lord brings joy, healing, liberty, release, vindication. Instead, thankfulness is one of the foundational virtues of our lives. In our prayer we give thanks as we recognize the many ways God is at work. In the Eucharist, which itself means to give thanks, we offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving to God from the multitude of gifts he provides. It is easy to give thanks to God for what we consider the joys and blessings of our lives. Yet, are we thankful for the difficulties and challenges? In today s readings Saint Paul exhorts us to give thanks in all circumstances, recognizing the constant work of the Holy Spirit within and among us. As we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! we reflect with thankful hearts on how our parishes have supported and inspired our faith. And as we prepare for the changes to come, may our gratitude for God s constant work in our lives encourage us as we build up new communities of faith.
