4 The Angel Tree will be in place next weekend. We hope that you will participate in this project, giving your family a chance to help those in need during the holidays! Please note that all gifts must be retuned by Sunday, December 10th in order for us to have time to distribute them in time for Christmas! When returning the gift, please place it in a gift bag with the angel tree tag attached so that we know where to take the gift. The gifts this year will go to: Serenity Pines Nursing Home, Washington Commons, Angels Place in the North Side and Swissvale, Human Collation (Cura Women s Clinic Previously Pregnancy Recourses), and the Boys and Girls Club of Carnegie. A special thank you to the Helping Hands for organizing this project! If you are looking for something different this Advent season, Holy Child Parish will have a Love you Neighbor Tree. Beginning the First Sunday of Advent there will be a Christmas Tree near the Sanctuary in the front of the Church, below the tree there will be baskets of ornaments with suggested acts of kindness written on them. You are invited to take one or more of the ornaments with you when you leave Mass, upon completing whatever the act of kindness is on the ornament, bring it back to the Church and place it on the Tree. It is hoped that the tree will be filled with ornaments this Advent! The Lord calls us to love our neighbors in concrete ways, this Advent season let s embrace His challenge and give the gift that He most desires to receive...love! What are relics and what meaning do they have for Catholics? This and other questions will be answered by Christopher Reibold in a free presentation, Thursday, November 30th at 7:00 pm in Harkins Hall at Saint Anne Church. The author of the recently published book, "The Saints at the Chapel: Thrilling Tales of History's Holiest Heroes". Chris will also share facts and relics about relics at St Anthony's Chapel and a few stories of the saints behind the relics. Joseph Kimutis Memorial Fund Annual Spaghetti Dinner Since the formation of Helping Hands of St. Barbara's Parish, the Joseph Kimutis Memorial Fund has been extremely generous with their financial support. Please join us in supporting Joseph's memorial by planning on attending the annual spaghetti dinner to be held Saturday, December 9 from 4 to 7pm at Our Lady of Grace Parish on Bower Hill Road in Scott Township. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Adults $10 and children 12 and under $6. Dinner will include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, dessert and beverage. There will also be a fabulous over the top basket raffle with everything from escape weekends to sporting events for the winners! We look forward to seeing everyone there. Senior Appreciation Dinner The Holy Child Columbiettes of Holy Child and St. Barbara Parish will be hosting a Senior Appreciation Dinner on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 1:30 PM in Holy Child Religious Education Building. All members of the Holy Child and St. Barbara faith community who have reached their 65th birthday are invited and encouraged to attend this special thank you event for all the ways you have added to the life and spirit of this community. 5 CHRIST, KING OF ALL On this, the final Sunday of the liturgical year, we celebrate the solemnity of Christ the King. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only king over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. At the end of time as we know it, Christ s work of restoring all things to unity and harmony with their Creator God will be completed. This Sunday, when we claim Christ as both our Shepherd and our King, we recognize our own calling to participate in Christ s saving work by caring for those whom Jesus calls the least ones (Matthew 25:45). What a magnificent title for the God who created us and loves us to the end. Of course, Christ is the most unconventional king. Instead of being born in a palace, he was born among the animals in a manger. Instead of the security of soldiers and guards, he was accompanied by twelve simple men. Instead of being crowned with gold and jewels, he was crowned with thorns. And, as today s Gospel reminds us, he did not want his face etched on coins or framed on walls, but instead wanted to be seen in the faces of those most in need. While Christ s kingship is unconventional, his reign over us is effective as he lovingly shepherds us towards the kingdom. Transportation and financial aid are available for families who qualify. Bishop Canevin High School extends a warm holiday invitation to parishioners for Christmas in the Courtyard on Wednesday, December 13 from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The school's choir and band will perform traditional Christmas carols as well as a few new selections to help celebrate the joy of the season. Beginning at 6:30 pm, stroll the school's decorated first floor while you enjoy refreshments and a casual pre-concert, followed by the formal concert in the school auditorium at 7:30 pm. There is no charge for admission and all are welcome.
