Like our founders, we are called by Baptism to live as examples of Catholic faith and values, and as witnesses of Christ in the world. Our parish is small in size but great in heart. We are a diverse community who together seek to strengthen faith through liturgy and education, and through service to community in charity. We strive to love God with all our hearts and minds. Hope Reborn - A Night of Glory -- Join Bishop David Zubik as we celebrate Pentecost with a Festival of Praise at St. Paul Cathedral, Oakland on Saturday, May 19, Doors open at 7:15 PM and the Festival of Praise is 7:30-9:00 PM. The evening will continue all night with prayer ministry, praise, a healing service and inspirational talks, and will conclude with a 6:30 AM Pentecost Mass celebrated by Bishop Zubik. May 19th at noon or call Jean Romano at Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the Na onal Shrine On Saturday, September 15, 2018, Bishop David Zubik will be leading a pilgrimage to our Na onal Shrine in Washington, DC. This year s pilgrimage will be special in that it will mark the 175 th anniversary of the Diocese of Pi sburgh. Highlights of the day include mass with Bishop Zubik, Holy Hour, concert of sacred music by the Pi sburgh Diocesan Choir, and a tour of the Shrine! Designated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops as a Na onal Sanctuary of Prayer and Pilgrimage, the Basilica is the na on s preeminent Marian shrine. A er 100 years, the largest Catholic Church in North America is now complete. Its Trinity Dome has been termed a modern-day masterpiece by Cardinal Donald Wuerl. Twenty-four tons of Vene an glass were used in its construc on. If you have never been there, it is definitely worth the trip especially when someone else is doing the driving and you don t have to worry about finding a place to park! We are hoping that we will be able to send at least one bus-load of people from St. Barbara, St. Mary, and Holy Child parishes. The bus will leave Bridgeville (exact loca on to be determined) at approximately 6 AM, and will return to the same loca on at approximately 11 PM that day. If you are interested in going on the bus, the cost will be $65.00 per person. LOVE ONE ANOTHER In the Gospel for the Sixth Sunday of Easter we are met with an extraordinary challenge: Jesus commands us to love one another as I love you (John 15:12).

But the scriptures make clear that we are also to love those we never notice, those we purposely avoid, and even those we are tempted to despise.

Peter realizes that God no longer shows partiality to the Jews, sharing divine love exclusively with them. Christ has revealed that God s love extends to all people, and so should ours. Copyright J.

The letter from John echoes this command. Of course, we are to love those in our family, those we work with, those we like. But the scriptures make clear that we are also to love those we never notice, those we purposely avoid, and even those we are tempted to despise. In this Sunday s selection from the Acts of the Apostles Peter shows us how far God s love extends, and how far our love should extend in response. It s a simple command, without condition or rationalization. To love one another is the call of the Christian life and is at the heart of the On Mission! initiative. In the coming months the parishes in our grouping will begin to work together to build relationships rooted in faith, hope and love. These relationships should not be forced or fake but should recognize that we are one in our Catholic faith and that nothing should divide us. Then, with our common faith and love for one another as our foundation, we will be able to form parishes that are truly alive as resources, efforts and energies are shared. It can be easy to love what is familiar to us. As we journey On Mission for The Church Alive! let us seek new ways to heed Jesus call to love one another.
