(Acts 14:27). Brothers and sisters in Christ, Our Holy Father Pope Benedict the XVII has declared the upcoming year a Year of Faith beginning October 11, 2012 until the Feast of Christ the King on November 24, This is in conjunction with the 50 th Anniversary of the Second Vatican Council for which the Holy Father, on October 7, has also convened a Synod of Bishops on the theme The New Evangelization for the Transmission of the Christian Faith. Our Holy Father proclaimed this Year of Faith in his apostolic letter, Porta Fidei, issued on October 11, The Pope has graciously granted a Plenary Indulgence for those who actively participate in the Year of Faith, the guidelines for which can be found at the back of the pews in the rear of the church. There are many resources available for your use from the Vatican website and the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website, respectively and As a parish we are in the planning stages of putting together programs throughout the year as our Archbishop and our Holy Father have requested. Below is an outline of some of the things we will be doing for the Year of Faith: 1. Provide all our CCD parents with a Catholic handbook of the teachings of the Church. These will also be available to our parishioner s for a small fee to defray the cost. 2. Each week one of the priests will do an article in place of the Pastor s Desk column pertaining to matters of the faith, i.e., doctrine, liturgy, etc. 3. Throughout the year, we will host on our own (and sometimes in conjunction with the other parishes in Nutley) spiritual presentations and evangelization programs such as Discovering Christ. In addition, for the next three weeks Jonathan Ryan, our Choirmaster and Organist will be placing some small articles in the bulletin about Music in the Sacred Liturgy as well our Musical Tradition found in the Catholic Church. I have decided to dedicate the 12 Noon Mass as a place for us to begin to experience this tradition; so for the Year of Faith, the 12 Noon Mass will be a choral Mass with the Saint Mary s Schola Cantorum, in which they will begin to introduce us to some of these musical traditions. I urge you all to take this opportunity to enliven the faith in your own hearts and develop a more spiritual and reverent relationship with the Most Holy Trinity.
