The RCIA program also helps those who want to learn more about their Christian faith and become practicing Catholics. Parish Office Summer Hours The Office will be closed on Fridays until Friday, September 9th. Nutley Care Kitchen St. Mary s care kitchen team will be preparing lunch on Saturday, July 23rd at Vincent United Methodist Church. We are always looking for new team members to set-up, cook, serve and or clean up. 3 Registration for Religious Education Registration forms for the school year were due back on June 1, We are in the process of putting classes together and planning for the fall. Because of the size of our program and available classrooms, we have to limit many class sizes. In order to ensure that your child can attend class on the day that works best for you, we ask that you return your registration forms as soon as possible. During each year of Religious Education, we look to deepen the faith of our students and provide opportunities for them to experience God's love, peace and joy. Each year builds upon the previous year, so to ensure that your child is fully prepared to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in Grade 9, it is important that they attend classes each year. If you know of anyone who has children who have been away from religious education, invite them to speak to a priest, Kristen or Anthony to find out how they can get back into the program and continue their faith journey. If you have a child that will be entering Grade 1 in September 2016, now is the time to register them for classes. You can do so by coming in to the Parish Center and speaking to Diane or by ing Anthony (armandoa@stmarysnutley.org). Confirmation registration forms for students entering Grade 9 were mailed home last week. Please call the office if you did not receive them. True Freedom True Freedom is found in our Lord Jesus Christ who liberated us from sin through his death and resurrection. As we rejoice with our fellow- Americans for the independence we enjoy in the United States, let us never forget those who are restricted by the chains of poverty. Why not celebrate your freedom by an act of kindness? One way to do this is by donating your unwanted clothing and shoes to the Catholic Charities donation bin located on our property. Thank you. 4 ACCOUNTABILITY WITH HEARTFELT THANKS Rachel s Vineyard Retreat September 9-11, 2016 Archdiocesan Youth Retreat Center (499 Belgrove Dr, Kearny) Catholic Charities received $903 as a result of your clothing donations from December 1 st, 2015 to May 31 st, These funds combined with monies from other parishes in a similar program throughout the Archdiocese alleviated the sufferings of the needy who sought relief through the many operations of Catholic Charities. In light of this, we are pleased to report that during the same period of December to May, we distributed 81,286 pounds of food to 12,801 families in the Archdiocese. Thank you for being our partner and enabling us to bring Christ s love to the most vulnerable in our society. 5 A Little Flow Goes a Long Way Have you ever had to train a replacement at your job? Have you ever tried to teach someone exactly how you do something? Like bake your signature cookies? Or wind up that old grandfather s clock? You try to write or lay out detailed instructions only to find multiple steps that have been left out. If you have you realize how much of what each of us do is second nature or almost instinctive. I recently prepared one of my substitute organists for the next two Sundays while I will be on vacation As I went through the liturgy, I realized how our Sunday worship is filled with musical nuance and timing. As my subs did not regularly play in a Catholic church, I struggled to find the overarching analogy to describe how music flows in Catholic worship. Here s what I came up with: Our music is not like a concert, where there are breaks for applause, rather it is like a theatrical production where the music, spoken word and music flow back and forth maintaining movement without creating a feeling of being rushed. First of all, please do not see what I ve written as my saying that worship is theater. What I m saying is that music needs to begin on cue and in time. Have you ever been at an event when a song was announced but the tape recorder or CD player failed to start? Take notice of the flow of the liturgy today. Enter into it and be part of the movement between sung and spoken prayer as well as the word of God in scripture and the words of Jesus in the prayer over the Eucharist. Listen, respond and be moved.
