For more informa on please contact Barbara Bertani at (210) The Caritas Corner A family of seven was in tears as they watched firefighters try to save their home in far South Bexar County. We lost everything in the house and only have what we had on our back and feet said the homeowner. Fortunately, all five children, ages 5 to 17, made it safely out of the house. However, they were unable to get any of their belongings out belongings like much needed equipment for their youngest son who has cerebral palsy reported KSAT-12 News. For some reason, the insurance settlement was not sufficient to replace their belongings or get them started on a new home. They are living in a small RV trailer on their property. As a gift of kindness, we delivered through the Caritas Fund -- two $1,000 gift cards to help ease the family s burden and help replace their personal necessities. Additionally, we will continue to help the family find a cheaper alternative to the mobile home they are trying to purchase and help get a better resolution on the insurance settlement issue. Despite their loss, the family said they are grateful to still have each other. This Caritas or Charity -- Fund is administered by the San Francescani Society and funded through the second collection normally on the third Sunday of each month. Its purpose is to assist recipients who through no fault of their own have fallen on hard times and have recognizable one time needs to help get back on their feet. In addition to the once a month second collection, the Caritas Fund accepts individual as well as business donations. San Francescani Society TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION At the heart of today s solemnity is a eucharis c procession, held in many parishes, that calls to mind the procession of Holy Thursday, yet has a purpose different from the somber adora on in the night watch. In the late Middle Ages, a procession through the city with the Blessed Sacrament was an occasion of hear elt joy and great emo on. In a me when people seldom approached the altar to receive Holy Communion, the procession through the streets, past homes and workplaces, was a vibrant reminder that Christ was with them as a dear companion and guide. Every year on this day, a joyful procession winds through the streets of Rome from the Lateran cathedral. A few years ago, Pope John Paul II, deeply moved at the sight of the throng accompanying the sacred host, said that we ought to feel profoundly united with the faithful everywhere in the world at such a moment. Before our mind s eye all the Churches of the world, from East to West, from North to South, are present. Originally this feast was on the Thursday a er Trinity Sunday, but a er the calendar reform of 1970, its tle was expanded from Corpus Chris to The Body and Blood of Christ and in the United States it was moved to the Sunday a er Trinity Sunday.
