This Sunday we are called to reflect on the fact that Jesus is among us. Do we recognize him in our midst? Do we pay attention to those who witness about the presence of Jesus in their lives? Are we good witnesses of his presence in our own lives? Advent is a time to pay attention; to be aware of the presence of God in our lives; every day of our lives. One tried and true way of being aware of God in our lives is to follow the instructions of St. Paul to the Thessalonians that we hear in our second reading: "Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing...test everything; retain what is good. Refrain from every kind of evil." GAUDETE SUNDAY The 3rd Sunday of Advent is traditionally known as Gaudete Sunday, gaudete being the Latin word for "Rejoice". Similar to Lent, Advent is a penitential season, as we prepare the way of the Lord, so the priests and deacons normally wear purple vestments. But on Gaudete Sunday, having passed the midpoint of the season, and similar to Laetare Sunday during lent, the Church lightens the mood a bit and the priest and deacons may wear rose colored vestments. Rose is a cross between the purple for penance and the white of Christmas. On this Gaudete Sunday, Rejoice that the Christ child is almost here. COME HOME FOR CHRISTMAS The readings of Isaiah are so moving during Advent, calling us to consider our relationship with God in new ways, to come home to the Lord. Isaiah invites us to consider a relationship with God on a very deep and personal level, to feel comforted, loved and protected. Isaiah offers us a God who rejoices in us and celebrates us with banquets of rich wines and choice food. "I am the Lord, your God, who grasp your right hand. It is I who say to you, Fear not, I will help you.' (Isaiah 41:13) As we journey through Advent, the journey into our heart, the journey of discovery of who we are as a child of God, remember that the Lord has you by the hand and will never let go. Do not be afraid. In observance of Christmas, Parish Offices will be closed: December 24 th, December 25 th and December 26 th.

3 The KNOTS PRAYER As we continue our journey through Advent, always keep in mind that the most important journey that each of us takes is the journey into our heart, mind, and soul. This prayer, called the Knots Prayer, whose author is unknown, is a good prayer to say on the journey to the heart. "Dear God: Please untie the knots that are in my mind, my heart, and my life. Remove the have nots, the can nots, and the do nots that I have in my mind. Erase the will nots, may nots, might nots that find a home in my heart. And most of all, Dear God, I ask that you remove from my mind, my heart, and my life all the 'am nots' that I have allowed to hold me back, especially the thought that I am not good enough. Amen." EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS to the SICK and HOMEBOUND Many members of our parish take Holy Communion to people who cannot get to mass, perhaps because they are in a hospital or nursing home, or just cannot easily get out of their home. This is a wonderful ministry. By doing so we let these people know that even though they may not be able to be with us physically at mass, they are still an important part our parish family. All Eucharistic Ministers, those that serve the sick and the homebound, as well as those who serve at daily or weekend masses, must be commissioned. This can be accomplished by the annual commissioning at Mass, typically on the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ, or it can be done privately. If you are a Eucharistic Minister, and you have not been commissioned, please see Deacon Ron, Deacon Jim, Deacon Joe, or Father Healy to arrange to have it done. Once again, thank you for ministering to God's people. COMMUNAL SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION The Sacrament of Penance will be celebrated on the following schedule: December 16 7 p.m. Our Lady Queen of Apostles, Frankfort December 17 7 p.m. Sts.
