1 Prayer of Sorrow My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend, with your help, to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior Jesus Christ suffered and died for us. In His name, my God, have mercy. AMEN. 3 FROM THE DESK OF FR. MIKE November 7 th, 8 th and 15 th are important dates in the life of our parish. Children in second grade will be celebrating the healing sacrament of reconciliation with their families. The children will be brought to church by their families and presented to one of the priests to celebrate the healing sacrament of God s forgiveness and love. Parents and grandparents that attend the celebration are also welcomed and encouraged to participate in the sacrament of healing, the sacrament of reconciliation. I am always filled with gratitude when I see the joy the students express as they come forward to celebrate the sacrament and the energy they have as they return to their families. Do you approach the sacrament of reconciliation with energy and joy? What role does the Sacrament of Reconciliation play in your spiritual life? If you have been away from the sacrament you are invited to reach out to me or Frs. Brendan or Mike. We would be more than happy to set up an appointment to pray with you and to celebrate the sacrament of God s healing love and mercy if you are not available to come to church on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings when the sacrament is celebrated. It is my hope and prayer that each of us as individuals will reflect on not only our experience of celebrating the sacrament of reconciliation but also our lived experience of offering reconciliation, mending differences, healing past hurts in our lives. Is there a broken relationship that can be mended in your life? Can you pray for God s grace to move in your life, helping you reach out to heal what has been broken? Cardinalelect Cupich wrote to the priests of the Archdiocese and he said, I know that with God s help we can make the Church a place where mercy is freely and generously given. May the same be said in our homes and in our relationships with others. The celebration is properly called the children s first reconciliation, knowing that the sacrament is to be celebrated and lived throughout their lives. The parents, teachers and catechists have been working with the students, reviewing the Prayer of Sorrow and sharing stories of God s love in Jesus our Savior. I invite you to remember the students and their families as they celebrate the healing sacrament of reconciliation this month at St. Mary s. May we pray and live the beautiful words of the Prayer of Sorrow our second graders have learned by heart: My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. AMEN. During November we make a special effort to remember all who have died from our families. Parishioners are invited to write in the names of their loved ones who have died in the book that is located near the baptismal font. This book is kept out throughout the month of November. All deceased members of our parish and families will be remembered at the Masses celebrated at St. Mary s in the month of November. May we be a comforting and supportive presence to all in our families and community who know the personal loss of a loved one. Next Sunday our parish will be celebrating the healing sacrament of the anointing of the sick at the 12:00 Noon Mass. Parishioners dealing with illness and ongoing medical issues are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Anointing. If you have an upcoming surgery or medical procedure and cannot attend the Anointing Mass, please reach out to me or Frs. Brendan or Mike. We would be more than happy to set up an appointment to pray with you and to celebrate the sacrament of God s healing in this sacrament. God bless you! Keep sharing the faith!

4 "CATHOLICS CARE. CATHOLICS VOTE. We need to participate for the common good. Sometimes we hear: a good Catholic is not interested in politics. This is not true: good Catholics immerse themselves in politics by offering the best of themselves so that the leader can govern." - Pope Francis, 9/16/13 Let us continue praying for the future direction of our country with the upcoming elections. There is and will continue to be rhetoric of all volumes as the election approaches. There are resources regarding the norms for political responsibility which have been prepared by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Catholic Conference of Illinois. In a recent communication from the Archdiocese of Chicago, the following information was shared with pastors encouraging us to share it with parishioners. The Catholic Church is nonpartisan, and does not endorse candidates nor tell parishioners which candidates they should elect. The Church does offer guidance for discernment as parishioners make their decisions on how to vote with a properly formed conscience. The Catholic bishops of the United States are pleased to offer once again to the Catholic faithful Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, our teaching document on the political responsibility of Catholics. This statement represents our guidance for Catholics in the exercise of their rights and duties as participants in our democracy. We urge our pastors, lay and religious faithful, and all people of good will to use this statement to help form their consciences; to teach those entrusted to their care; to contribute to civil and respectful public dialogue; and to shape political choices in the coming election in light of Catholic teaching. The statement lifts up our dual heritage as both faithful Catholics and American citizens with rights and duties as participants in the civil order. A thorough reflection of Church teachings regarding voter participation in the election can be found in the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops document, Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship, which may be found at: The Catholic Conference of Illinois has provided a helpful article suitable for bulletin publication. Election 2016: Weigh Your Conscience Before Casting Your Ballot offers a review of the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching and is available in English, Spanish and Polish. Find them here: As mentioned above, the Church maintains a nonpartisan position. Consequently, parishes, schools and priests are not to endorse candidates or political parties. Church facilities may not be used for partisan events. Along these lines, voter education material or endorsements that you may receive from organizations other than the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops or the Catholic Conference of Illinois may not be published or otherwise distributed at your parish.

5 Anointing of The Sick, Sunday, November 13 at Noon Our parish will celebrate the Anointing of the Sick within the context of the Eucharist on Sunday, November 13 at Noon in our Church. The Anointing of the Sick is one of the Church's seven sacraments instituted by Christ. In this sacrament, the Church proclaims her belief in Christ's power over the pain and suffering of illness. This is a powerful way to meet the Lord and receive strength and mercy from Him. If you would like to be anointed during the 12:00 o clock Mass on November 13, please r.s.v.p. to the receptionist at St. Mary s at Christmas Sharing Tree The Guild of St. Mary St. Elizabeth Circle and St. Catherine of Sienna Circle will be coordinating this year's Christmas Sharing Tree. Ornaments can be chosen and registered before and after all Masses on November 12 and 13. Please make sure to register your ornament to make sure your family will receive the gifts. There will be tables set up at the back of the church with members of Saint Elizabeth and Saint Catherine to help you with this process. All gift items should be wrapped and dropped off at the Oakwood entrance of the school of St. Mary upper grade center on December 10 and 11 after all Masses except 6:00pm on December 11. If you have any questions about ornament distribution, please call Linda Hegg ; lindahegg625@gmail.com Also Kristen Anderson at ; kristenande@gmail.com. Thank you for your support and generosity. 6 School of St. Mary 6th Grade Retreat The sixth graders started off their retreat by going to Feed My Starving Children in Libertyville. We were welcomed, rocked hair nets and learned all about how FMSC works. In teams we packaged meals for over two hours. We cleaned up, prayed over the food and got to learn a little more about the impact we were able to make! After lunch we played a game, went to Adoration, and the 6th graders made a commitment to following Christ by praying the Consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. We ended the afternoon with Mass celebrated by Fr. Grzesik. It was such a joy to witness the 6th graders working so hard to serve others and to commit themselves to the Lord. Praise God! The 6th graders worked hard and had a great time! School of St. Mary 2nd Grade Field Trip to Brookfield Zoo The second graders had a beautiful day for their field trip to the Brookfield Zoo. The children saw many animals that are also found in their Wonders' Reading Curriculum stories. It was a wonderful day of learning and laughing with friends!

7 Church of St. Mary Religious Education As they prepare to receive the sacrament, all 8th grade students of the parish were invited to come forward and present themselves as candidates for Con irmation. The students declared their commitment to continue working toward a deeper life and friendship with Jesus Christ and His Church. During the Mass they received a special blessing calling for strength and guidance of the Holy Spirit. We ask the parish community to support and pray for these candidates as they prepare to receive the sacrament of Con irmation on April 22, Sunday, November 6 Monday, November 7 Tuesday, November 8 Sunday, November 13 Tuesday, November 15 10:00am - 1:15pm Intensive classes for Gr. 6-8, beginning with 9:00 Mass Classes: 10:15 11:45am Kdg. through 5 th grade in the Primary Grade Center 7:00pm 2nd Grade First Reconciliation in church Classes: 4:15 5:30pm Grades 2-6 at the Upper Grade Center Classes: 7:00-8:15pm Grades 6-8 at the Upper Grade Center 7:00pm 2nd Grade First Reconciliation in church Classes: 10:15 11:45am Kdg. through 5 th grade in the Primary Grade Center Classes: 4:15 5:30pm Grades 2-6 at the Upper Grade Center Classes: 7:00-8:15pm Grades 6-8 at the Upper Grade Center 7:00pm 2nd Grade First Reconciliation in church
