Friends and parishioners are invited to celebrate with him. Next Sunday the 4th Sunday of Lent, the Second Scrutiny will be celebrated at the noon Mass. 5 ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA PRAYER: LENT SOUPS & STATIONS Lent Series on Revelation Promises made, Prophecies fulfilled A meal of hot soup with a presentation on the Book of Revelation, followed by Stations of the Cross in the Church. Fridays during Lent from 6pm - 7pm through April 11th LEBANON DEANERY LENTEN PARISH PENANCE SERVICES 7:00 PM (except where noted ) As per the past few weeks, here are some questions on the Eucharist frequently asked of me as a priest. Parochial Vicar s Q. It s really hard to believe that it is really Jesus. A. I agree! And that wasn t a question! I always liked the articles on the Eucharist at When I would struggle, I would often say to myself. I believe in Jesus, I believe He is God, that He does not lie, He does not deceive. And it was He who said: The bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh My flesh is true food, My blood is true drink whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I in him. (John 6) Jesus has to have made it possible for us to consume Him, otherwise He would be a liar. And so I trust, He is God and He is capable of doing the most miraculous of things even the Eucharist! Q. Have you ever witnessed a Eucharistic miracle? A. Personally, I have never witnessed one, besides the beautiful miracles of conversions I have seen many times. I do know a number of priests who have. One, a teacher at seminary, recounted that during the final Mass of a parish that was closing to merge with another, each of the parishioners, when they received the Precious Blood, saw in the chalice a liquid that looked and flowed like blood (though it tasted like wine). They had to confirm with one another after Mass the miracle they had each witnessed, but the priest shared the overwhelming peace and trust in God which came over them on what they all thought would be just a sad day. Q. How do you think people should receive communion? A. I never like liturgical questions that ask me what I think. As Admiral Ackbar would say: It s a trap! The universal norm of receiving the Holy Eucharist is on the tongue while standing. I would never deny someone from receiving while kneeling (the pope doesn t!). The bishops have also allowed communion to be received in the hands for the past few decades (there are places throughout the world that do not practice this that you might discover while travelling), but the guidelines specify it must be done with serious care with two clean and bare hands (i.e. if one is wearing gloves, has dirty hands, or does not have two free hands because of carrying a child or a hymnal, he/ she should receive on the tongue). I do like BustedHalo s video on how to receive the Eucharist: eucharist. Next week: Confirmation!
