The parish community of St. Joan of Arc Church extends its deepest sympathy to her family and relatives on their loss. I am not sure if many people are aware of this, but there is a long tradition in the Church of setting off an intention or devotion for each month of the year. Perhaps we are familiar with June being dedicated to the Sacred Heart or October the month of the Rosary. Did you know that July is the month dedicated to the Precious Blood of Christ, that January is dedicated to the Holy Name of Jesus, or that March is dedicated to Saint Joseph? Each month has its special devotion and November is the month to remember the dead, especially the souls in Purgatory. Why November? I think it is because the changing of the seasons brings with it the seemingly dying of the natural world around us. The colors of nature take on a brilliant but then more somber hue and we are reminded of the brevity of life and that all things die. It is a time for reflection on our mortality. For us Christians, of course, this is not a cause for morbidity but, rather, a time to remember what our faith teaches us: that it is only in death that we come to the fullness of life. As the funeral liturgy reminds us, For your faithful, O Lord, life is changed, not ended. Let us take a look at our journey through life, reflect on all we have done and all we have failed to do, and resolve to live more Christ-like lives. May we and all our loved ones who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith be the beneficiaries of the Lord s great love and mercy and may we all one day be together in heaven! This position is responsible for administering the Parish K-8 Religious Education Program. This also includes special needs children. This is a 40 hour work week/10 month position. Educational / Work Experience: This position requires a Bachelor s or a Master s degree in Theology, Catechetics, Religious Education, or a related field. Three years of experience as a DRE or a catechist is required. Salary will be commensurate with applicant s experience. Either place them in the bins available in the entrance to the church or take them to the church office if you bring them during the week. Please do not leave bottles with money in them in the back of the church unless it is on the weekend. Thank you for your generosity. Last year, Morning Star gave 296 abortion-minded women hope by showing them their unborn baby on a sonogram. Before I formed you in the womb I knew you (Jeremiah 1:5) CCW NEWS MONTHLY MEETING The November meeting is Thursday, November 12th, beginning at 6:30 pm. Following a short business meeting, we will sign Christmas Cards to support Central PA Supports the Troops. We will also be collecting stocking stuffers. Central PA supports the Troops puts together more than 3,000 stockings to be mailed to deployed US troops. We would be invited and will be coordinating a car pool to support the larger packing event held in Lebanon on Thursday, November 19th. Stocking stuffer ideas: personal care items, deck of cards, sealed snacks, candy or any other type item that you would put into a Christmas stocking. Please bring items to the meeting or drop off at the church office. SAVE THE DATE December 5 after the 5:15 PM Mass, an evening of reflection with Father Rothan in the St. Joan of Arc Cafeteria. 5 ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH YOUTH AND EDUCATION NEWS HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA This Week - The Cross and Altar -The Eucharist is the representation of Christ s sacrifice on the cross. When we receive the Eucharist and pray at Mass we participate in the Paschal Mystery. Next Week - The Wedding Feast -Mass isn t designed to be entertaining. We are called to approach Mass with joy and reverence and to use every Mass as an opportunity to dedicate ourselves to Jesus.. EDGE is for grades 6-8 and meets on Monday nights in Meeting Room C from 7-8:15. We will meet on November 9, 16, and 23. Calling all Young Adults of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church between the ages of 21-35, married or single!!! We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 7-8:30 in Meeting Room C. A talk is given after Communion on a scheduled weekend. Enthronement Packets are given out and the people are led in saying prayers to spiritually prepare for the enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus which will be completed in the home, along with the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Included in the packets are instructions on how to complete the Enthronement/Consecration at home along with pictures of Jesus and Mary. Watch for further information in the coming weeks. Ready for a little Catholic Trivia? Apparently the monks not only get credit for creating beer, but also symbol. The below article appeared in the Hershey Area Merchandiser in August 19th. These days, most people recognize symbol as part of the every address, but it didn t start out that way. According to historians, symbol was created by monks during the Middle Ages, when each copy of a book had to be painstakingly transcribed by hand. The task went to monks, who developed ways to reduce the number of pen strokes for common words. The result was to loop the t in the at around the a. Our original plan was to replace a door, but the condition of the back porch had deteriorated to the point of being unsafe. This home was built by the owner s parents many years ago, and was built nine feet off the ground. It had only one entrance and one stairway, so it was important that the deck be replaced and a stairway built to provide a second exit from the building. Our Parish s contributions provided all the necessary building materials to replace the porch and add a small deck and stairs. It took our volunteers all week to complete the work, so the other door installations we intended to do had to be left to others.
