What many think to be an abstract and confusing concept is in reality at the heart of our faith, is the ground of being itself and, therefore, at the center of Reality. God is love and love isn t love unless it is relational. The early Church Fathers used a term that suggests a circling dance ( perichoresis ) between persons. But even the best dance makes a distinction between partners. The Trinity instead is a weaving, an interpenetration, a making room for the Other. Just as it is impossible to accurately describe love, so it is that words fail in speaking about the Holy Trinity. But I can say this much: it is all about Love! To love God and neighbor is the beginning of the eternal encounter with God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit! REP SUMMER OFFICE HOURS & HELP DESK: The Religious Education Office will begin summer office hours beginning in June. The office will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. A REP Help Desk will be available to answer questions about our parish s Religious Education Program (REP), help families with program registration or payment, and assist with other related items. J A C C H, P St. Joan of Arc Parish is again sponsoring with Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Harrisburg Area a special one day collection of household items, which will be sold at Habitat s ReStore located in Harrisburg. All proceeds benefit Habitat s activities to promote safe, decent and affordable housing for lower income persons and families. This special collection will occur on the St. Joan of Arc parking lot along Areba Avenue on Saturday, June 24, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Please do not drop off any items prior to the time indicated. Items to be collected include appliances, furniture, cabinets, building materials, tools, hardware, light fixtures, home décor items, and household electronics. Latex paint is accepted at ReStore, but not on the truck. All items must be in working order and in useable condition. Examples of items NOT collected include televisions, clothing and shoes, mattresses/box springs, faucets, used anti-freeze and motor oil, unframed glass, carpet, wood with nails, water heaters and dishwashers. This event is a good opportunity to get rid of unwanted items for a good cause and receive a donation receipt for tax purposes. We urge your participation in this event. Parishioners entering the 5th grade in August or are at least 10 years old, are invited to be a part of this important liturgical ministry. If interested, submit a completed enrollment form by JULY 2, Age requirements: Those who are entering 5th grade in August 2017 or are older than 10 years of age. Training Dates: In the Church from 2:15 to 4:15pm on: July 16, 23, 30 and August 6 & 13. Scheduling: New Altar Server schedules will be sent at the end of August. This form can be printed, completed and returned to the parish office, or it can be completed electronically and then ed to: office@stjoanhershey.org God s Way The Road to Kindness This week we want to share some Kindness Acts and provide ideas of how you can help out your favorite charities with your time and also with those items that you no longer may need. First, a very special thank you to those volunteers that always provide their time and help during our annual SJA Festival. We will celebrate our 43 rd annual Festival on June and we are so thankful for your enduring Kindness and dedication to our parish over the years. We also want to thank those that are volunteering for the first time. We also want to share a few special Kindness Acts and ideas that help those families and individuals in need. Spring and summer are times when we clean up our houses and garages. We always seem to find items that we may no longer need or use. Instead of throwing those items away, donate them. There are many families in our community that have been blessed in the past by this act of Kindness! We also know many special need charities that could use your time. We have many parish members that have given their precious time to someone in need. These organizations will take whatever time you have a lot can be accomplished in one hour. 6 J 11, 2017 S O T H T PARISH MINISTRY NEWS & EVENTS AREBA CLUB LUNCHEON - JUNE 13th: The next Areba Club Meeting will be a Luncheon Meeting held at the Holiday Inn Grantville with a cost of $25.00 per person. The date is Tuesday, June 13 at 12:00 Noon. It will be a causal affair honoring our members who are 90 years old and older. We have reservations for 15 who range in age from 90 to 102. Their reservations will be complimentary. We will be entertained by "MARINO". If you are interested in attending, please call Janet Polto, to make your reservation. MOM S GROUP - NEW DATES: Attention moms of babies and toddlers: Are you interested in getting together with other Catholic moms to chat and share some snacks while the kids play? MEALS ON WHEELS - COORDINATOR WANTED: The Meals-on-Wheels organization in Hershey is looking for a person to replace the two coordinators who are retiring within the coming month. The responsibility requires the issuance of weekly client delivery route sheets, and periodic communication with the Dep't. of Aging, and the other four churches in Hershey. These instruments of love have done mundane tasks, yet also create beauty." This is part of a prayer we say at every meeting. The Annual John Waverka Memorial Golf Tournament has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 8, Registrations are being accepted until July 1. The event will be held at Deer Valley Golf Course with an 8:00 am start time. The format is a Shotgun/Four Man Scramble. Registration is $75 per golfer. To register, please contact Mike Waverka at (717) or mikewaverka@aol.com Full details are available on the parish website. JUNE: NATIONAL SAFETY MONTH June has been designated National Safety Month. This year the organization is shining a spotlight on unintentional injuries. Injuries of all kinds are the leading cause of disability for people of any age. Accidental poisoning takes the biggest toll on people followed by automobile accidents and then falls. W L Medications pose the greatest poisoning risk to seniors. Taking even a small amount above the recommended dosage of certain medications can lead to serious consequences. The risk increases dramatically for people who take multiple types of medications. It can be easy to mistake one pill for another or mix up the dosage amount. One simple way to cut this risk of poisoning is to use a pill organizer. This will help you have doses planned accordingly. E O T R According to AAA Travel, teenagers are the most likely group to be involved in deadly collision followed by seniors. Refrain from use of your cell phone while driving. This is one of the biggest distracters while driving an automobile. Learn to stay focused on driving when behind the wheel. This will greatly reduce your risk of causing an automobile accident. For those older drivers, get your eyes checked regularly. F Falls are common among older adults. Use handrails when available going up and down stairs. A regular exercise program should be the first defense against falls. Get out and walk the local park or even at the shopping mall when the weather is warm. In summary, pay attention to what you are doing. Read the labels, keep your eyes open and your legs moving so that you can enjoy a safe summer.
